Chapter 545 Not Us, It's Me

Winona's mind was completely occupied with thoughts of Zachary. It wasn't until Austin stood right in front of her that she realized what he had just said, "He's not a rookie."

Austin stayed quiet.

Was that really the point? Whether Zachary was a rookie or not was irrelevant. He was worried about Winona, not Zachary.

Winona asked, "What are you doing here?"

It definitely wasn't a coincidence.

Rebecca leaned in cautiously and said, "I told him you were here. He just texted me asking about Zachary and how you were doing. I mentioned it, but I didn't expect him to come over right away."

She had actually anticipated this. Knowing Austin's personality, she figured he would come over if he knew Winona was with her. She was worried that if Winona acted impulsively, she wouldn't be able to stop her. Having Austin there was an extra layer of security. She certainly didn't expect Anthony to help her stop Winona.

Winona nodded, "I'm heading back."

She had already asked Anthony everything she needed to know. Staying here would be pointless.

Rebecca hurried to catch up, "Zachary will be fine. He was kidnapped by Timothy once before, and this time he's prepared. He'll definitely take precautions."

She pursed her lips, reluctant to admit it but had to, "He's only foolish in front of you. In other aspects, he's very shrewd. Look at Anthony, such a capable person, and Zachary managed to get him involved with the Bailey Group, even becoming a shareholder. That shows how formidable he is in front of others."

She had heard this from conversations at the law firm recently. Anthony and the Bailey Group initially had a one-year cooperation agreement. When the contract was renewed, Anthony went from being the boss of the cooperating law firm to the head of the Bailey Group's legal department and even became a shareholder.

Zachary had effectively tied Anthony to the Bailey Group.

Winona smiled at her, "I know, that's why I'm staying calm here."

Not impulsively doing something foolish.

Rebecca wasn't good at comforting people, especially in situations like this. If it were her, she wouldn't be as calm as Winona. So she frantically signaled to Austin, hoping he could persuade Winona.

She really didn't feel comfortable leaving Winona alone.

Austin shrugged and gave her a helpless look.

Winona's phone rang. It was Timothy. As soon as she saw the caller ID, she answered immediately.

The voice on the other end of the line came through the receiver, mentioning bombs and detonations. Each word made the veins on Winona's forehead throb. She gripped her phone tightly, her heart racing, "Timothy, what do you want?"

"I'll give you one hour," Timothy gave an address, "If you don't make it, the next time you see Nicholas will be on the news. I've already thought of the headline, 'Ramsey Group CEO commits suicide out of guilt, detonates homemade bomb, also affecting Anderson Group's CEO and several bodyguards.'"

Zachary said, "Winona, don't listen to him."

Winona said, "Don't hurt him."

They both spoke at the same time.

Timothy laughed mockingly, "Such deep affection. The countdown starts now."

The call ended abruptly.

Winona instinctively looked at Rebecca.

Rebecca had heard Timothy's words, "Damn it, he's a sociopath, a real lunatic. One hour..."

She ran alongside Winona, not even considering the danger. She used her phone to navigate the address Timothy mentioned, "He's out of his mind. It's a two-hour drive, and he expects us to get there in one hour."

Winona said, "It's not 'us,' it's me. Rebecca, this is dangerous. You shouldn't come."

Rebecca rolled up her sleeves, "What are you talking about? I might not be much help, but an extra person means extra strength. Timothy is now a terrorist with a bomb. We can't confront him directly, so we'll try to intimidate him with our presence. Where are you going? The elevator is this way."

At the intersection, Winona headed straight towards the law firm. Rebecca tried to pull her back but couldn't. She stomped her foot and followed, "Why are you going to the law firm?"

She soon found out. As soon as they entered, they ran into Anthony, who was about to go to a meeting.

Winona pulled Rebecca in front of him, "Mr. Lewis, please take care of Rebecca. Don't let her run around."

Rebecca was thinking about how to deal with Timothy, the lunatic, and was caught off guard when Winona pushed her into Anthony's arms.

She hadn't expected Winona to use this tactic and was completely unprepared, crashing into Anthony's chest.

Anthony's body was solid muscle, and the impact made her jaw ache and her head spin.

Rebecca was surprised, and so was Anthony. When Winona pushed Rebecca towards him, he instinctively wrapped his arm around her waist to prevent her from falling.

The other lawyers behind Anthony were stunned, their mouths agape. Anthony, usually so strict and reserved, had never embraced another woman in public.

Normally, Anthony would push someone away and coldly say, "Your behavior just now has violated my..."

Rebecca turned back, "Winona!"

Winona didn't have time to explain. She nodded to Anthony, "Thank you, Mr. Lewis."

"Winona." Rebecca tried to break free from Anthony's grip, but his arm was like a steel clamp, impossible to escape. "Anthony, let go. Timothy has explosives and plans to blow up Zachary and Samuel. I need to watch Winona and stop her from doing something impulsive."

Anthony said, "Compared to Winona, you're the impulsive one. I'm afraid you'll start a fight with Timothy before she even moves."

Rebecca fell silent.

Winona had come in Matthew's car, but now she had to take a cab. The elevator stopped on the first floor, and as soon as the doors opened, she rushed out.

Just as she stepped out, someone grabbed her hand.

Austin said, "I'll drive you."

If he hadn't reached out to stop her, Winona wouldn't have realized Austin had been following her. This situation was dangerous, and she didn't want to involve him. She was about to refuse when Austin interrupted, "One hour. I can make it, but if you take a cab, you might not."

They stared at each other in the narrow elevator for a moment. Winona stepped back inside, "Thank you."
