Chapter 514 She Just Dislikes You
Winona said, "I'm feeling good; I can get out of here tomorrow. You don't need to stick around, so you should head back."
Now, it seemed like everyone in the hospital knew about the sanitary pads scattered on the floor being for her. The childish antics of those two guys had left her both amazed and impressed.
Zachary called out, "Winona..."
Winona continued, "Otis is still at the police station. Since he messed with the project, he must know some inside info. Don't hang around here with me, go investigate quickly, or someone else will beat us to it."
Zachary replied, "Anthony's already on it."
Otis was currently in detention, and apart from his lawyer, no one else could visit him. If Zachary had any questions, he had to go through Anthony.
Plus, there was someone keeping an eye on things from the shadows, making sure everything went smoothly.
But Winona didn't open the door. "You should go back. I'm supposedly having a miscarriage, and my situation is pretty unique. It's not a good look for you to stay here overnight; it might cause misunderstandings."
Even though private hospitals are big on patient privacy, with so many people around, someone was bound to slip up. If Zachary had kept a low profile, maybe no one would have noticed him, but he had become the center of attention in the whole hospital. Not only did people notice him, but they also took pictures.
Zachary had plenty to do and didn't plan on sticking around. He stood at the door for a few minutes, gave some final advice, and then left.
After leaving the hospital, Zachary called Samuel. As soon as the call connected, an exasperated voice came through. "Are you back from the dead or finally coming to your senses?"
"I had something to deal with," Zachary didn't elaborate and got straight to the point, "Did Otis talk?"
Samuel replied, "He claims he was blinded by greed and that the other company made him do it. He even has chat records to back it up. His willingness to admit guilt is almost commendable; he takes all the blame on himself, like he's eager to be locked up."
"If he wasn't so eager to go to jail, I might have let him go. Now it seems he's a trusted insider and probably knows a lot of secrets. He's scared for his life, so he came up with this plan," Zachary replied and instinctively glanced at his watch. "The evidence hasn't been submitted yet, right? Have Dylan go to the detention center tomorrow and say it was a misunderstanding. Get Otis out first. While he's at the police station, we can't do anything. We can't have Anthony doing anything illegal in front of the cops.""Got it." Samuel had just taken a shower and was now standing by the floor-to-ceiling window in his office's break room, smoking a cigarette. His gaze fell on the distant apartment buildings, with countless windows lit up, each representing a family. In contrast, the surrounding office buildings were pitch black, with not even a single person working late.
In the Anderson Group building, it seemed that only his window was still glowing with light.
The more Samuel looked, the more he felt isolated. He irritably pinched the bridge of his nose, his thumb absentmindedly stroking the base of his ring finger. Julia not only designed wedding dresses but also occasionally designed wedding rings for clients she got along with. Samuel had never encountered anyone who designed rings as beautifully as she did—so exquisite that he felt a twinge of jealousy every time he saw them, particularly the men's rings.
Samuel continued, "Timothy went straight to the house your parents bought for him abroad and hasn't left since. The person watching him said he waters the flowers in the yard for half an hour every day at six in the evening and stays home the rest of the time. So far, nothing unusual has been found.
He just got back, so we can't make any big moves for fear of alerting him. But I've already contacted the police, and they'll find an opportunity to search the place in the next few days to see if there's any secret passage or hidden room."
Zachary opened his mouth, about to ask more questions, when Samuel said, "The surrounding houses have also been checked, and nothing unusual has been found so far. The neighbors are being interviewed, and we should have results in the next couple of days."
Zachary had mentioned to Samuel that Timothy had gone abroad and asked him to have someone keep an eye on him. Samuel had found out everything Zachary wanted to know. This was much more efficient than Dylan and Richard. Just one instruction, and Zachary didn't have to worry about the rest, saving him time and effort.
Feeling relieved, Zachary began to worry about his good friend's love life. "Is Julia still making things difficult for you?"
Samuel replied, "It's not just a hard time. This time she's serious. She has a drawer full of divorce agreements, ranging from her leaving with nothing to me leaving with nothing, and I get to choose whichever one I prefer."
Zachary asked, "When has she ever not been serious?"
He said, "Didn't she stop mentioning divorce for a long time? Why bring it up again suddenly?"
He thought Samuel would say Julia still hated him or had met another man she liked. But after a moment of silence, Samuel said, "Last time, I didn't satisfy her. She complained that my muscle definition didn't meet her aesthetic standards, that my smoking in the bedroom choked her, and that the red bites on my arm are unsightly."
These words only strengthened Zachary's resolve to keep Winona and Julia from meeting. He asked, "Is it possible that these are just excuses and she simply dislikes you?"
After a few seconds of silence, the busy tone came through the receiver.
