Chapter 661 Zachary and Two-Faced Bitch

Lydia woke up in the middle of the night. The room was silent, the lights were off, and only a small nightlight in the corner provided a dim glow, just enough for her to make out her surroundings.

She opened her mouth and called out to the figure slumped on the couch, "Evander."

She had no idea how long she had been asleep. Her throat felt parched, as if it were on fire. Her voice came out as a faint whisper, barely audible.

The figure on the couch didn't stir, but she felt movement beside her. A long, slender hand held a straw to her lips, and Lydia, driven by thirst, instinctively took a couple of sips.

The warm water soothed her dry, scratchy throat, making her feel a bit better. "Why didn't you let Winona go home to sleep? It's so uncomfortable to sleep on the couch. She has to work tomorrow. How can she manage if she doesn't sleep well?"

The nightlight's reach was limited, and she could only vaguely see a figure on the couch, unable to make out any details, not even the gender.

The person who gave her water was tall and male, so she assumed the figure on the couch was Winona.

"Go wake her up and tell her to get a room at a nearby hotel."

Lydia reached out to push him, but then she heard a low chuckle from above. It was the man beside her.

Her hand froze in mid-air. This wasn't Evander's voice.

Time seemed to stand still. Mechanically, she slowly turned her head, her movements so stiff she could hear her neck creak.

The man's face was hidden in the shadows, completely obscured.

He leaned down to meet her gaze, but she still couldn't see his face.

Lydia started to panic. Why couldn't she see him? Where was Evander? Who was the person on the couch? She had been awake for a while now, why hadn't that person moved?

The man's fingers brushed her face, the cold touch sending a shiver down her spine. "Such a kind-hearted girl."

The words felt like a curse. Lydia closed her eyes and screamed, "Ah!"

The lights came on, and footsteps approached.

"Lydia." Someone helped her sit up in bed, and a moment later, Evander's voice reached her ears, "What's wrong? Did you have a nightmare?"

Lydia opened her eyes, still shaken, and saw Evander and Winona's concerned faces. "Was I dreaming just now?"

She looked around the room, not seeing anyone else, and her tense body slowly relaxed. "Winona, you have to work tomorrow. You don't need to..."

Her voice trailed off, her gaze fixed on the cup on the bedside table, with a straw sticking out of it.

Winona noticed her expression, "Mom, what's wrong?"

Lydia stared at the cup, "Did one of you give me water just now?"

"No, you woke up calling out," Evander said, noticing her focus on the cup. "Do you want some water?"

As he reached for the cup, Lydia's emotions suddenly spiraled out of control. "No, I don't want water."

She knocked the cup to the floor, shattering it. Lydia clung to his sleeve, "He was here. He definitely was here."

Evander, worried she might hurt herself in her agitation, quickly tried to calm her down.

"No, you were just dreaming. Winona and I have been here the whole time. No one came in, and the hospital doesn't allow visitors after ten. It's already past eleven. He couldn't have come. You're just too stressed, and it's affecting your dreams."

"No, he was really here. He gave me water. Look at the straw!" She pointed to the straw among the broken glass. "I bit it just now. Check if there are teeth marks."

Winona tried to soothe her, "Mom, don't get worked up. I'll go check the security footage. If someone did come, the cameras will have caught it."

She went to the security office but found nothing.

After the incident, Winona's sleepiness vanished. Instead of going back upstairs, she went for a walk in the garden, giving her parents some space.

She wandered aimlessly until she stopped by a fountain. It was night, and the fountain was off, the water inside murky green.

Winona called Zachary and recounted the events. "Do you think Mom had a nightmare, or did someone really come?"

The cameras only covered the hallways, and a skilled hacker could manipulate the footage.

There was a long silence on the other end. Winona thought he was pondering her question, but when he spoke, it was to scold her. "I told you to rest at home. Why did you go to the hospital?"

Realizing his tone had been harsh, Zachary softened his voice. "Where are you now?"

"In the hospital garden."

"I'm finishing up here. Wait for me in the lobby. I'll come get you."

Winona was focused on the call when she suddenly felt a chilling sensation, as if someone was watching her.

Her body tensed, but she pretended nothing was wrong and walked towards the security office. "Okay, are you at the entrance? I'll be right out."

"I'm by the fountain. Head this way."

The feeling of being watched persisted, but Winona controlled her nerves, not showing any discomfort. She reached the lobby without incident.

Zachary arrived quickly and, seeing Winona safe and sound, pulled her into a hug.

Winona didn't see the flash of panic in his eyes.

They went upstairs to check on Lydia, who had calmed down. Since visiting hours were over, the nurse soon came to send them away.

On the way home, Winona received a WhatsApp message. Reading it, her eyes narrowed slightly, and she turned to look at Zachary, who was driving.

Noticing her gaze, Zachary glanced at her. "What's up?"

"Do you have plans Wednesday night? Rebecca recommended a restaurant. She said the food is great. Want to try it? They have an opening that night."

"I have a business dinner Wednesday. It'll run late. Can we reschedule?"

Winona didn't push. "Sure."

Wednesday, the Fields family engagement party.

Winona walked into the hall with Rebecca, not causing much of a stir.

Rebecca asked, "Are you close with the Fields family?"

"Not really."

"Then why are you at their engagement party? And everyone else is paired up. You brought me, another woman. People might think we're..."

She suddenly stopped, then cursed, "Fuck, it's Zachary and that two-faced bitch."
