Chapter 432 Did You Work Her So Hard That She Lost the Baby

Winona went to say goodbye to Andrew. But the middle-aged guy who'd been ignoring her earlier now had a friendly smile and a warm attitude. "Miss Sullivan, no need to rush. It's already 4:30 PM. I've asked my secretary to book a restaurant. Let's talk about our cooperation over dinner."

Since Andrew suggested it, Winona couldn't really say no.

Andrew added, "Let's wait for Mr. Ramsey to come out, and then we'll head out."

Winona stayed quiet.

The restaurant Andrew booked wasn't far from the golf course, a private spot that usually needed reservations.

Winona and her group walked in last. When they got to the private room, there were only three seats left next to Nicholas.

Matthew was about to sit next to Nicholas when Nicholas, who'd been looking at his phone, looked up with a cold smile. "Mr. Watson, you're just here as an escort today, right? Is it really appropriate for you to sit here?"

Even while Nicholas was sitting, his intimidating aura was hard to miss.

Matthew didn't say a word.

The two men stared each other down, neither willing to back off.

Seeing this, Dylan pulled out a chair and sat down. He glanced at Nicholas and then at Matthew. "I'm with the Bailey Group. I think it's appropriate for me to sit here."

Dylan figured it was obvious Nicholas had ulterior motives for Winona. If Nicholas was genuinely interested in her, it wouldn't be an issue. But he was simultaneously poaching business from the Bailey Group and making advances towards Winona. Who knew what his real intentions were? He couldn't let Nicholas get away with it.

Nicholas gave him a cold look but didn't say anything, turning to chat with Andrew instead.

Dylan didn't feel embarrassed at all. He was pretty pleased with his quick thinking. But then he felt a pang of sadness, thinking that if Zachary were still around, his performance just now would surely have earned him a raise.

Winona sat down next to Dylan, with Matthew beside her.

Andrew told the waiter, "Let's start with some hairy crabs. This season's crabs are the biggest, and this restaurant only uses the best ones. Miss Sullivan, you should definitely try them."

Nicholas and Matthew spoke at the same time, "She doesn't eat crabs."

Winona's heart skipped a beat, like she was suffocating. Her hand tightened around the menu. She turned abruptly, her eyes locked on Nicholas. Very few people knew she didn't like crabs. It was a seasonal dish. People who didn't dine together regularly wouldn't notice these things.

Even Zachary knew she didn't like crabs because Matthew had told him. So how could Nicholas, who wasn't close to her, possibly know?

Nicholas stayed calm under everyone's gaze. He even ordered a dish before saying, "Mr. Rodriguez. Ms. Sullivan is pregnant. Eating crabs can lead to miscarriage."

Andrew suddenly got it. "I didn't think of that. Let's get Ms. Sullivan a bowl of seafood porridge first. The dishes here are made to order, so they take a bit longer."

Winona looked away, her lowered eyelashes hiding the disappointment in her eyes. She thought, 'It isn't him.'

Matthew ordered a few dishes that Winona liked and were suitable for a pregnant woman. As he served her porridge, he reminded her, "Eat more. Now that you're pregnant, you need to get more nutrients."

Nicholas smirked, "Mr. Watson, when you get hitched, you'll make a great husband. You're so considerate and thorough, even I can feel the warmth."

Dylan stayed quiet.

That was definitely a dig at Matthew.

The tone of that sarcastic comment was just like Zachary's.

Dylan turned his head and cautiously called out, "Mr. Bailey?"

Nicholas's voice was icy. "Mr. Collins, seems like your eyesight's failing. Need a pair of glasses? The Ramsey Group has a business for that."

Seeing Dylan's frustration, Matthew felt a bit of relief. He met Dylan's gaze. "I'm not like this with everyone. I'm pursuing Winona. Of course, I care more about her. Sorry if it bothers you, Mr. Ramsey."

Winona was thinking about how to end her fake pregnancy. It was initially just to stabilize the Bailey Group's shareholders, but now everyone seemed to know.

Others were fine, but Matthew had completely taken her as a pregnant woman to care for. Today in the car, she even saw him looking up dietary restrictions for pregnant women on his phone.

The better Matthew treated her, the more guilty she felt.

Hearing his words now, she choked up.

Matthew gently patted her back. "Eat slowly."

Nicholas stayed silent. His fingers tightened around his phone, his knuckles turning white. His thin lips pressed into a straight line, and his cold gaze fell on Matthew's hand.

Matthew noticed and looked up, meeting his gaze.

Nicholas sneered and looked away.

The meal was tense, with everyone sitting rigidly. Although they were supposed to discuss business, Andrew wasn't in the mood and didn't bring it up. He just marveled internally that both Nicholas and Matthew, with so many young and beautiful women to choose from, were interested in a pregnant woman.

After dinner, they went their separate ways.

Winona called Evander. "Dad, the cooperation with Mr. Rodriguez might not work out."

She explained the situation. Evander was already resting. He had almost fainted at the company today and was ordered to go home and recuperate. Lydia had put him to bed before 8 PM.

Hearing Winona's words, Evander wanted to say more, but seeing Lydia's angry eyes, he could only say, "Let it be. If it doesn't work out, don't force it. You've had a long day; get some rest."

As soon as he hung up, Lydia angrily shouted at him, "Winona is pregnant, and you let her go to social events all day. Those places are full of people smoking and drinking without any consideration. It's so late, and she hasn't rested. What if she gets hurt? What about our grandchild?"

Seeing her getting more agitated, Evander said, "Calm down. Let me ask you, are you worried about Winona or the baby?"

He had planned to tell Lydia about Winona's fake pregnancy after she had recovered from Zachary's incident, but he had been too busy. Now, seeing her so anxious about the baby, he knew delaying it would only make things worse.

Lydia rolled her eyes. "What kind of nonsense is that? Of course, I'm worried about both."

Evander asked, "What if you had to choose between the baby and Winona?"

Lydia looked at him, hesitated for a moment, and her eyes widened. "Did you overwork Winona and cause her to lose the baby?"
