Chapter 27 Whatever You Order, I'll Eat.
The next morning, Winona received a call from Zachary's lawyer. They arranged to meet at a nearby café. Just to be safe, Winona also called Ryan.
Considering Zachary's willingness to divorce last night, she couldn't help but feel that today's proceedings wouldn't go so smoothly.
When Winona arrived, the attorney from the Bailey Group was already there. She recognized him. Anthony Lewis, the head of the Bailey Group's legal team. However, she had only heard of him handling high-value economic cases and hadn't heard of him taking on small divorce cases.
But soon, Winona realized that this wasn't a small case.
Because the section on property division involved an amount exceeding 300 million dollars!
"Mr. Lewis, what does this mean?"
Anthony maintained a professional attitude, his words not sharp, "The debt of 350 million dollars that Mr. Bailey previously paid off for you is considered your personal pre-marital debt. According to relevant laws and regulations, after your divorce, he has the right to reclaim this money."
He turned to the last page, "Here is the detailed list of marital property. After division, you still need to repay Mr. Bailey 300 million dollars."
Winona frowned, "But I married Zachary specifically to repay that debt. We had an agreement."
If she hadn't been forced into a corner back then, she wouldn't have married Zachary for that money.
"Do you have any evidence to prove that Mr. Bailey gifted you that money?"
Faced with Anthony's question, Winona fell silent.
Naturally, she didn't have any.
Seeing her expression, Anthony guessed the outcome and smiled, "Since there is no evidence, it cannot be considered a gift."
As they were talking, Ryan also arrived. When he saw Anthony, he slightly froze, "Mr. Lewis?"
Anthony was a legendary figure in the legal field, known to everyone. Many had tried their best but couldn't get him to take on their cases, yet now he was handling a divorce case.
Ryan took the initiative and approached, "Mr. Lewis, I am Mrs. Sullivan's attorney."
Anthony nodded and glanced at his wristwatch. He had other matters and didn't have time to linger here.
"Mrs. Sullivan, I have to go now. Mr. Bailey has already signed the divorce agreement. If you agree, you can proceed with the formalities at any time."
Five minutes later, Ryan closed the divorce agreement and said seriously, "Mrs. Sullivan, personally, I suggest you have a good talk with Mr. Bailey."
"In this situation, taking legal action is not favorable for you. You have no evidence to prove that this money was given as a gift, and moreover, the lawyer the other party hired is Anthony... It would be best if we could resolve this privately."
Winona's face at this moment is indescribable in words. She puts away the divorce agreement and nods lightly. "Thank you for today, Ryan. I will give you a call after I have made my decision."
After leaving the coffee shop, she dials Zachary's number.
At this moment, Zachary is in a meeting, and his phone is on silent mode. But when the screen lights up, he glances at it...
The three letters 'Winona' jump on it.
He didn't answer.
At this point, Anthony should have already finished talking with her.
Since she insists on a divorce so resolutely, she must be prepared to face the corresponding consequences. He knows what she wants to say when she calls - divorce and being burdened with a three-hundred-million-dollar debt. If they don't divorce, she can continue to enjoy the luxurious life as Mrs. Bailey.
Choosing one of the two options is something anyone with a sane mind would know how to do.
But he doesn't want to respond to her so quickly. He wants her to learn a lesson and remember it well, so she won't use divorce as a threat for trivial matters in the future.
The phone keeps ringing until it automatically disconnects. He thought Winona would call back, but she didn't.
It's not until the meeting ends and everyone else has left that Dylan pushes the door open and enters, "Mr. Bailey, Mrs. Sullivan's call came to me."
Zachary's gaze is cold and indifferent, with a hint of mockery. He has something else to attend to later, and he doesn't have spare time to waste on Winona.
"Let her move back on her own. If she tries to use divorce to cause trouble again, I'll grant her wish."
Dylan glanced at the CEO but hesitated before gritting his teeth and saying, "Mrs. Sullivan said she agrees to your conditions. She has signed the divorce agreement. She asks you to make the arrangements at the civil affairs bureau when you have time."
Winona's actual words were even more offensive. She even called Mr. Bailey some sort of clingy dog! But if he had a hundred chances to speak, he wouldn't dare repeat it!
Zachary's eyes narrow suddenly, "She agreed to the divorce?"
"Yes, that's what Mrs. Sullivan said."
The man stares at his phone for a moment without saying a word.
Dylan can't read his thoughts and cautiously asks, "Mr. Bailey, should I give Mrs. Sullivan a response?"
In the next second, Zachary suddenly stands up and leaves the meeting room with large strides, emitting an indescribable coldness...
Dylan hurries to catch up and almost gets his nose smashed by the glass door that was slammed shut!
Zachary slides his phone while walking and dials a number, "According to Dylan, you agreed to the divorce?"
"Yes." Winona was currently standing by the roadside, sweating lightly. The scorching July sun makes the pavement scalding hot, and she just wants to get home and take a shower quickly.
However, Zachary's voice on the phone is unusually cold, "Three hundred million dollars, and...
"When do you plan on repaying?" Winona frowned, was he in such a hurry?
"We'll handle the formalities first, and I'll repay you in installments," she replied.
"Installments? How long?" Zachary's voice was mocking. "With the money you earn from working, it would take a lifetime to come up with three hundred million dollars. What will you do if I handle the formalities, but you refuse to acknowledge the debt?"
Winona held back her frustration and replied, "I can write you an IOU."
"Banks consider assets for loans. What assets do you have to make me believe that you can repay three hundred million dollars?"
