Chapter 438 My Husband is Still in Kindergarten

Winona was about to ask, "When did I donate clothes?" when she remembered the pile of stuff Matthew had donated in her name, which included several big bags of clothes.

"How did you know I donated clothes?" she asked.

Matthew never liked being in the spotlight. Even though those items were pricey, they were sent to poor areas where quantity mattered more than cost. Compared to those huge donations, this little bit didn't get much attention.

"I just overheard someone talking about it," Nicholas mumbled. "Weren't those things useful to you? Why'd you donate them?"

Nicholas was still competing with the Bailey Group, which was why Winona felt compelled to keep her fake pregnancy a secret from him. She wasn't savvy in the business world and had no idea how much trouble she'd be in if her fake pregnancy got out. "Matthew bought too much. I couldn't use or eat everything, so I donated it to people who needed it. It would've been a waste to let it go bad."

Nicholas pursed his lips, his face still cold despite the warm lighting.

"Matthew gave these to you? Did he say they were from him?" he asked.

Winona, oblivious to his odd behavior, answered earnestly, "I asked the sales clerk. She said the person who bought the stuff looked gentle. Among the people I know, only he fits the description of 'gentle.'"

Nicholas sneered, "Have you ever seen anyone buy baby products with a look of anger and resentment? Normally, people doing that have a face full of warmth and anticipation. Isn't it a bit hasty to judge someone's identity based on a single word?"

Winona was momentarily at a loss for words. "Mr. Ramsey, your insight is remarkable."

It was obvious she was just being polite.

Her words did nothing to improve Nicholas's mood. If anything, her indifferent attitude only made him angrier. He pressed on, even more aggressively, "Does Matthew know what style you like?"

Those clothes were all chosen according to her preferences, including underwear. So, either she hadn't opened them, or Winona was aware that Matthew knew her style.

She replied, "I don't have a fixed style. I like beautiful things, and Matthew has great taste. If he sticks to his usual style, I think it should turn out quite well." Winona hadn't even looked at them, so she had no idea what style they were.

Nicholas was so angry he felt suffocated, almost unable to breathe. He could tell Winona didn't want to talk about it, but he couldn't hold back. "You're so sure it was him without even asking? Is there really no one else who would give you these things?"

Based on her interactions with Nicholas, Winona figured he wasn't the type to be nosy or dig into trivial matters.

His persistence and repeated reminders could only mean one thing: he was the one who gave those things.

So, Winona felt even less burdened to provoke him. She tilted her head, pretending to think hard, and lied effortlessly, "No. If Rebecca wanted to give me something, she would take me to pick out what I like. She wouldn't act like some secret benefactor. Only Matthew, afraid I wouldn't accept it, would send things without telling me."

Hearing this, Nicholas fell silent.

Winona sighed, looking regretful. "Matthew is so good to people. If some girl marries him in the future, she'll surely be very happy."

"That sounds like regret. Are you sorry you chose Mr. Bailey and want to be with him?" Nicholas's voice was cold, and his gaze was terrifying.

Winona touched her belly and sighed mournfully. "No regrets. After all, I once had genuine feelings for Zachary. But now, I don't know exactly what's going on with him. Matthew said he would treat the child as his own, and I'm considering it. The child needs a father. No matter how much I love them, I can't fulfill that emotional need."

With every word she said, Nicholas's brow twitched, and by the end, it was almost cramping. His hand on his knee clenched into a fist. "Don't you watch the news? There are countless cases of children being abused by stepfathers. No matter how good the promises are before marriage, you never know what will happen after. So, a biological father is still the best option," he said.

He was about to breathe a sigh of relief when Winona continued, "You're right. So if he treats the child badly after marriage, I'll divorce him and find another one. After all, I'm beautiful and wealthy. I'm not worried about finding a good man. By the time my child grows up, I won't have to worry about them being mistreated."

Nicholas was so angry he couldn't speak for several minutes.

Dylan, always mindful of his duties, saw the tense atmosphere and quickly raised his glass. "Mr. Ramsey, a toast to you," he said.

"A toast for what?" Nicholas, full of pent-up anger, glared coldly at Dylan.

Dylan was puzzled. Did he need to explain before toasting?

However, having accompanied Zachary to many social events, Dylan was used to making toasts and blessings effortlessly, without even thinking.

Nicholas, feeling frustrated, downed his drink in one gulp.
