Chapter 10 Anger and Accusation Toward the Loyal Pursuer
Paul was enthusiastically chatting with Alice on the side.
However, it was clear that Alice wasn't interested in men like Paul.
In terms of financial status, Paul was far behind Steven; he even rented his place.
But Alice still smiled and said, "Thank you, Paul. But I already have plans with a friend that night. What a pity!"
A look of disappointment flashed across Paul's face.
He had spent an entire month's salary on those two concert tickets!
He had hoped to take the opportunity to confess to Alice at the concert.
But his efforts were all in vain.
Seeing this, Steven smirked sarcastically.
He knew that Paul, the loyal pursuer, wouldn't get a good outcome in the end.
But Paul, feeling dejected, saw Steven's smiling face and got very angry.
To divert his own embarrassment, he immediately approached Steven and said, "Steven, you really don't understand gentlemanly behavior!"
Paul continued to scold Steven, "A grown man, making a woman help you move things. You're shameless! Alice has been complaining about back pain since she came to work today. Next time, don't trouble her with such things!"
Steven glanced at Alice.
So it was this woman who spread the word.
Alice pretended to be innocent and said, "It's okay, my body isn't really hurt."
"It's just that I'm not good with heavy lifting, and my back seems a bit strained." As she spoke, she even reached out to pinch her waist and then frowned in pain.
To show his masculinity in front of Alice, Paul arrogantly pointed at Steven and said, "You better give Alice $70 for medical expenses."
Unexpectedly, Steven's eyes turned cold, and he glared at Paul, cursing, "She offered to help me move things; I didn't ask her to."
"Besides, who do you think you are to order me around?" Steven growled. "Do you really think you're somebody important?"
Steven's severe scolding left both Paul and Alice stunned.
Paul was just an ordinary clerk in the warehouse, with no power or influence.
He dared to reprimand Steven only because Steven usually had a good temper and didn't like to argue.
But seeing Steven truly angry, Paul got a bit scared. "Why... why are you shouting so loudly?"
"I was just discussing it with you." Steven sneered and turned to leave.
He couldn't be bothered to waste words with Paul. Because now, Steven saw everyone as if they were already dead.
In a month, 99% of the people around him would die in the apocalyptic extreme cold storm.
Why waste words with the dead?
After Steven left, Paul ran to Alice and whispered, "Alice, I told you Steven isn't a good person. You should stay away from him."
Alice frowned, feeling puzzled. Because in the past few days, Steven seemed like a completely different person.
He didn't come up to greet her when he saw her.
He didn't even chat with her or say goodnight every evening.
‘Something's definitely off!’ Alice thought to herself.
After work, Steven drove to a five-star hotel in Starlight City. It was the Waldorf Astoria, where he had previously made a reservation.
When the manager of the Waldorf Astoria heard that Steven had arrived, he immediately arranged a room for him with a big smile. A room in a five-star hotel costs $140 a night.
Steven didn't mind spending the money at all. After all, he still had plenty of money, and he would feel it was a waste if he didn't spend it.
That night, a hypocritical Alice unexpectedly sent Steven a message.
Alice: [Steven, I passed by your place today and saw it was being renovated!]
Steven: [Yes.] He smirked.
Alice: [You seem so strange lately, stocking up on things and renovating your house. Is something going to happen soon?]
Steven couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
This hypocrite might be bad, but she certainly wasn't stupid.
It seemed his strange behavior had finally caught her attention.
But Steven didn't care; other people's opinions meant nothing to him now.
Steven: [Nothing.]
He replied coldly and then tossed his phone aside.
On the other end, Alice felt very uncomfortable seeing Steven's indifferent attitude towards her.
For the past two years, Steven had always been very good to her. He was always concerned about her and found various reasons to chat with her every night.
But recently, he seemed like a completely different person. He was not only cold but also did not initiate conversations with her, which made Alice feel very uneasy.
She could be uninterested in Steven, but she absolutely couldn't allow Steven to lose interest in her.
To Alice, that meant she had one less pursuer.
Although Steven wasn't a rich scion, he was still a quality middle-class man.
If she couldn't find a rich scion to marry in the future, she could still give Steven a chance.
Alice picked up her phone and sent another message.
Alice: [It feels like we've been in less contact lately. It's making me feel a bit lonely.]
But after waiting for a long time, Alice didn't receive a reply.
Alice bit her lip, starting to feel a bit irritated. "That damn Steven, is he having a mental breakdown? I reached out to him, and he dares not to reply to my message!"
Her roommate Ivy, hearing Alice's complaints, walked over with a grin. "Steven has indeed been acting strange lately. I don't know why he's buying so much food and drink, and he's also ordering a lot of meals from hotels. It's like he's preparing for a shortage of supplies."
Alice frowned slightly at this. She said to Ivy, "Ivy, do you think something might really happen soon? Did Steven get some news and start stocking up?"
Ivy was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter, clutching her stomach. "Alice, are you out of your mind? If something were really going to happen, the authorities would notify us."
"We should just stay calm. If we start hoarding supplies, people will laugh at us for being fools," Ivy added.
Alice laughed self-deprecatingly. "You're right."
Steven stayed in the suite at the Waldorf Astoria for several days. He didn't go anywhere. During these days, he was busy ordering meals from various hotels.
On the other hand, he started practicing with a compound bow and crossbow in his room.
Fortunately, Steven had always enjoyed hunting and had a good foundation.
Now, within a 50-foot range, his accuracy was very high.
Such modern equipment, especially with a professional-grade compound bow, allowed an ordinary person to shoot arrows comparable to those of ancient master archers.
Not to mention dealing with humans, even if he encountered wild boars, wolves, or large dogs, he could inflict significant damage.
