Chapter 512 Confession

Theron's idea got shot down by Otha right away.

"No chance! We can't let anyone else get involved right now." Otha's face was stone-cold as he said, "If this isn't a natural disaster but something man-made, then we gotta suspect one of those five factions!"

The whole investigation team looked pretty grim.

"Is someone behind these zombies? Who could it be?"

"Is it Steven? He's the most suspicious!" Lanny said, frowning.

Given the current mess in Starlight City, Steven, being the only faction leader who hadn't lost any people during the zombie crisis, did seem pretty shady.

But Theron chimed in, "I don't think it's him! He has no motivation."

"He doesn't need the resources to survive the apocalypse, and his crew is all fine."

"Plus, he told us about the zombies voluntarily. If he's not nuts, he wouldn't dare mess with us, the Silvercrest District!"

Lanny crossed his arms, frowning even more. "But who else could it be? All the other factions in Starlight City have taken heavy hits."

"If it were them, they wouldn't trigger a zombie outbreak to destroy their own forces, right?"

Eris spoke up, "Could it be some unknown force?"

Otha stayed quiet.

They didn't have any intel on this, so they couldn't make a call.

"Let's head to the Amber District and check it out! Once we're there, we'll know what's really going on."

In the shelter.

After Otha and the others left, Steven sat on the couch in the living room, fiddling with a silver metal lighter.

The flame burned brightly, the blue light thin and long, sharp as a military knife.

Outside, snow was falling heavily, but inside the shelter, it was as warm as spring.

Steven stared at the flame, thinking for a long time before finally deciding to spill everything to those around him.

The investigation team had already been tricked into going to the Amber District, which meant the hidden horde of zombies would soon erupt.

If everything went as Steven predicted, the real zombie showdown in Starlight City was just around the corner!

The previous battle outside the Snowfall Cult was just a warm-up, and this final showdown would crank up the pressure by several levels!

If not handled right, the whole Starlight City could be wiped out by the zombie horde!

Steven had to manage the situation as best as he could.

At the very least, he had to make sure he and his people could survive, even just himself.

"It's time! They should be ready." Steven closed the lighter's lid and then said to the shelter's AI, Aurora, "Aurora, tell everyone in the shelter to come to the living room!"

"Okay, message received!"

The next moment, Aurora's voice echoed in every corner of the shelter. "Everyone in the shelter, get to the living room, pronto!"

When they heard this, everyone looked curious. Most folks didn't know the zombie crisis was still a thing.

Usually, Steven only called a meeting when something big was up. So, they had no clue what was going on this time.

Only Cindy's eyes had a dark glint as she wheeled away from the control panel.

A few minutes later, everyone was gathered in the living room, all eyes on Steven.

"Steven, what's up?"

"What happened now?"

Everyone was a bit on edge.

They thought the zombie crisis was over and they could chill, but seeing Steven's serious face made them uneasy.

Steven got straight to the point.

"This zombie crisis in Starlight City isn't a natural disaster; it's man-made! There's a huge conspiracy behind this, involving everyone."

Steven spoke slowly, explaining everything from Elinor discovering Natasha had multiple supernatural abilities to his finding the hidden zombies in the Amber District.

Because it was so complex and the plan so long-term, Steven had to break it down bit by bit.

By the time he finished, half an hour had passed.

The room was filled with an eerie vibe. Everyone had strange looks on their faces.

It felt like they were listening to a constantly twisting, intricate suspense story.

If they missed any detail, they'd be lost.

"You can digest the twists and turns later." Steven said, "For now, just remember that Natasha and the Snowfall Cult's ultimate goal is to wipe out all the factions in Starlight City and then take the power of us Psychics!"

"As for her plans afterward, that's not our concern. Our real problem is how to deal with her right now!"

Nora, sitting not far from Steven, turned pale. She rubbed her arm, which was covered in goosebumps. "Does that mean she has to kill me?"

The Supernatural Ability Return could only be activated by killing a Psychic implanted with Frostheart, and Nora was the only one implanted with it in the shelter.

Although her abilities were more supportive, they were very useful.

The key point was that for Natasha, killing one Psychic was the same as killing a thousand. She wouldn't spare Nora.

Elinor secretly felt relieved she hadn't implanted Frostheart. She also understood that Steven had done that to protect her.

Steven comforted Nora, "You don't need to worry for now. If things go as we expect, Natasha's plot won't succeed."

Lily asked worriedly, "But if what you say is true, Natasha now has the power of at least a dozen Psychics, maybe even dozens or hundreds! Who can deal with her?"

Steven crossed his hands under his chin. "There is someone!"

"Who?" everyone asked curiously.

"Otha Soderberg!" Steven said the name seriously.

This was also why he had gone to great lengths to keep the investigation team.
