Chapter 508 Searching for the Zombie Horde

Steven decided to head towards Floral Springs Subway Station. After flashing a smile and saying goodbye to everyone, he hopped into his car and took off.

He was flying solo, but he had his trusty sidekick, Fluffy, with him.

This time, though, he didn't need Fluffy for protection.

Since he developed the Double Dimension Door tech, Steven's survival skills were off the charts.

If he wanted to make a getaway, he could use the Double Dimension Door to keep moving, and no one in the world could catch him.

What he needed was Fluffy's sharp sense of smell.

Steven and Fluffy arrived at Floral Springs Subway Station, where the whole subway tunnel was covered in a thick layer of ice.

Steven pulled out his satellite phone, checked the subway map of Starlight City, and said to Fluffy, "Alright buddy, let's go find them!"

Steven jumped into the snowmobile, with Fluffy perched in the passenger seat. They zoomed along the subway line, battling the wind and snow.

A few hours later, they reached Seldwa District, where the Snowfall Cult's headquarters was located.

About ten miles from the Snowfall Cult's HQ, Steven pulled over.

He got out with Fluffy and stashed the snowmobile in the extradimensional space.

Then he found a subway entrance and jumped down.

The subway system in Starlight City was huge and complex. Walking through all the tunnels would take at least half a month.

But Steven had the Double Dimension Door skill, perfect for spatial traversal and quick escapes.

Opening the "door" didn't drain any supernatural energy, so he could keep opening and closing it to travel.

This time, Steven was in the underground of Seldwa District to find the hidden horde of zombies!

He was sure there was a massive, more dangerous horde of zombies hidden here!

Those were Natasha's secret weapons, meant to wipe out other forces in Starlight City.

If he could find them, he could move on to the next part of his plan.

The subway space in Starlight City was vast, and Steven figured they were probably hidden near Seldwa District, close to the Snowfall Cult.

So, he started here.

Steven and Fluffy kept moving through the subway tunnels.

Fluffy perched on Steven's shoulder. Its sense of smell could pick up the unique scent of those zombies within a mile.

Steven moved cautiously through the subway.

If he ran into trouble, he'd escape to the surface right away.

Steven hoped Natasha wouldn't figure out where he was. If she did, she might come after him.

Even though Steven was confident in his unbeatable survival skills, he knew Natasha might attack his shelter.

Protecting himself was easy, but keeping everyone around him safe was a whole different ball game.

After half an hour, Steven had searched every corner of the Seldwa District subway tunnels, but he found no signs.

So, the zombie horde weren't hidden here.

'Seriously? If they're not in Seldwa District, do I have to search all of Starlight City? Or am I just imagining this whole larger horde of corpses thing?'

Steven frowned but quickly shook off the doubt.

'No way, they have to be real! Natasha wouldn't ditch such a big ace up her sleeve.'

'She needs a massive army that follows her every command. Her ambitions definitely go beyond just Starlight City.'

Even though this mission came up empty, Steven had planned for the possibility of not finding anything.

'Makes sense. There was a big fight near the Snowfall Cult recently. If the horde was hidden here, it might've been discovered.'

'Since there's nothing here, I'll just have to hustle and search all the subway tunnels in Starlight City!'

Determination flashed in Steven's eyes.

Sometimes you can't take shortcuts; the hard way has its perks.

To eliminate potential threats and protect himself and everyone else, Steven had to tackle even the most annoying tasks.

Steven pulled out his phone and marked all the places he had checked on the map of Seldwa District.

But there were still a dozen areas in Starlight City he hadn't searched.

'Let's hit them one by one! We'll find it eventually.'

Steven reached out and patted Fluffy's head, and it squinted in enjoyment.

'Of course, ideally, I hope it's all just me overthinking. That there's no more zombies. No conspiracy.'

Steven smiled and muttered to himself.

That day, Steven combed through the entire underground subway system of Starlight City.

When he reached the northeastern edge of Starlight City, the most remote and desolate area, Fluffy finally reacted.

As soon as they arrived at this subway line, Fluffy's fur stood on end, its eyes locked on the dark tunnel ahead, letting out a low, prolonged growl.

It had fought zombies many times and knew this scent well.

For it to show such fear, there had to be a ton of zombies ahead!

Steven, however, smiled faintly, feeling somewhat relieved.

So, they were hiding here.

Amber District, one of the most remote areas of Starlight City, was basically the urban-rural fringe.

There were hardly any valuable resources here, so no one bothered to occupy this place.

Natasha's choice was pretty clever. Steven's mouth curved into a smile, but his eyes were full of caution.

Even though he could traverse space, ensuring he and Fluffy wouldn't be in any life-threatening danger, he still feared two things.

First, he didn't want to alarm such a massive horde of zombies prematurely, to avoid triggering a zombie riot.

Second, there were Zombie Kings among the horde. If it found out it was exposed, it would definitely inform Natasha.

In that case, Natasha and her forces might launch an attack early, wiping out other groups in Starlight City.

Steven opened the extradimensional space and pulled out a large gray rat.

It was about the same size as Fluffy, with faintly glowing red eyes.

But it wasn't a real giant rat. It was a mechanical rat that Steven had Aubrey help build.

To avoid detection, Steven had repeatedly smeared it with the blood and flesh of giant rats, making sure its scent was spot on.

Then Steven placed it deep in the tunnel, while he and Fluffy quickly retreated to a safe distance.
