Chapter 68 Finally It Can Be Solved
Elinor noticed that Steven still had his guard up around her, and she thought to herself, 'No wonder Steven can live so comfortably in this post-apocalyptic world.'
"Sit down."
Steven pointed to the sofa beside him, and at some point, he had already picked up his gun.
Elinor obediently sat on the sofa 6.5 feet away from Steven, placing her hands neatly on her knees like a well-behaved child.
Steven said, "Listen, the reason I let you move in is because you have some value to me."
"But you must always remember, this is my home. You being able to stay here is a favor from me."
"So, you must obey all my commands. Otherwise, I will kick you out."
"If you make any inappropriate moves against me, once I find out, I will kill you without mercy!"
Listening to Steven's cold words, Elinor couldn't help but think, 'He's really cold-blooded.'
Although she knew Steven had his reasons for saying that, if he had spoken more gently, she might have been a bit moved.
What she didn't know was that Steven had been gentle before, but his gentleness had only led to death.
Steven pointed to a room.
His house was a three-bedroom, one-living-room layout. Besides the master bedroom where Steven lived, there were two other bedrooms.
"You will stay in that room. But let me tell you in advance, every corner of this house is under surveillance."
"So you will always be under my watch, with no privacy at all."
"The door is also a security door, made of material only slightly lighter than the front door, but still impossible to open by human strength."
"The key is with me, and you can only come out when I allow it."
"If you have any objections," Steven pointed to the front door. "you can leave now!"
Elinor had no intention of leaving.
Even with Steven's harsh conditions, this house was a paradise compared to the brutal outside world!
She nodded, "Okay, I will listen to you."
Elinor's compliant attitude made Steven very satisfied.
No wonder she was a smart woman; it was easier to communicate with her.
If it were women like Alice and Ivy, they would probably cry and make a fuss.
That was why they would die in this post-apocalyptic world.
Steven put away his gun and adjusted the position of another gun.
He looked at Elinor, his tone becoming slightly gentler. "You're very smart. This way, it's easier for all of us to get along."
"You should understand how terrible it is outside. Besides relying on me, you have no other way to survive."
"So now, I'm going to tell you a secret, listen carefully."
Elinor widened her eyes in surprise. "A secret? You're... willing to tell me?"
She thought that for someone as cautious as Steven, any secret he was willing to share wouldn't be simple.
Steven said, "I'm telling you this secret to ensure your loyalty to me. But even if you leak it, I'm not too worried. After all, in this world, everyone is struggling to survive, and I'm not afraid of anyone posing a threat to me."
He shrugged, "Those who tried to kill me before were all killed by me, as you saw."
Elinor nodded, looking seriously at Steven, wanting to hear what secret he had to share.
Steven said unhurriedly, "The cause of this snow disaster, I believe you saw it online. It's due to a supernova explosion, causing a burst of gamma rays."
"These rays can have certain effects on the human body, potentially causing mutations."
"So, I have gained a superpower, which is to have an independent extradimensional space."
Ignoring Elinor's surprised look, Steven continued, "The reason I can live comfortably until now is because my space stores a large amount of supplies."
"Otherwise, just relying on this house, you can see, it can't store much."
"Therefore, as long as I'm alive, you can enjoy those supplies with me. Only then will there be food to eat and hot water to shower with."
"If I die, this house will quickly become no different from other houses. You will still starve to death."
Steven didn't fully trust Elinor, even though he knew she was a kind person.
He only believed in interests, not human nature because human nature can be twisted, even without much effort.
He had to tell Elinor that as long as he was alive, she could live, so that she would completely become his partner in interest.
To gain Elinor's trust, Steven took out a long piece of sandwich bread from the extradimensional space and threw it to her.
Seeing Steven pull out a piece of bread like magic, a trace of trust finally appeared in Elinor's surprised eyes. "Superpowers? Do such things really exist?" she asked.
Looking at the bread in her hand, she swallowed but didn't dare to eat it, waiting for Steven's command.
Such a large piece of bread would be enough for people to fight over outside! Not to mention, she hadn't eaten anything for two days!
Steven said lightly, "Eat it, it's for you."
Elinor couldn't hold back any longer and took a big bite.
Seeing her eating so hastily, Steven was afraid she might choke, so he poured a glass of water and handed it to her.
Elinor ate the bread in large bites, and this fast food she used to despise now moved her to tears.
'Oh God, why does a piece of bread taste so good!' she exclaimed in her mind.
Steven, on the other hand, was softly explaining the rules of living here. "I don't trust you that much, so be smart."
"Cleaning, cooking, don't make me tell you to do these things."
"The sewer is frozen, so when you go to the bathroom, you need to use a special plastic bag and then throw it out of the hidden window. From now on, this will also be your job."
"In other words, you will be my maid. You need to work to earn a comfortable living environment and food. Got it?"
Steven's house couldn't support freeloaders.
Elinor gobbled up the food and nodded repeatedly, "I understand, master."
She called out shyly.
Steven raised an eyebrow; she adapted quickly!
No wonder Elinor could become an attending doctor at such a young age.
Seeing she was full, Steven smiled.
He rested his chin on his hand, his gaze falling on her fair neck.
"Do you know why, out of all the people in this building, I chose you even though we're not the most familiar?"
Elinor bit her lip. "Because I'm a doctor."
"You lack nothing, but you can't guarantee you won't get sick or injured," she added.
Steven nodded slightly. "That's one reason. Although my body is very healthy, I always need to prevent potential future troubles."
He took out a half-empty bottle of red wine from under the table and, like a magician, produced two wine glasses.
Steven poured two glasses of red wine, pushing one in front of Elinor.
"So, do you know the second reason?"
Elinor took the wine, hesitated for a moment, then took a sip, a hint of understanding appearing in her eyes.
There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world.
"Because I'm a woman, and a very beautiful woman at that."
Elinor was very smart.
Elinor put down the wine glass and stood up.
In front of Steven, she untied her robe.
Steven didn't pretend to be a gentleman; after more than half a month of repression, he had accumulated a lot of negative emotions that he needed to release.
So today, he could finally solve this problem.
