Chapter 313 The Final Battle with West Mountain Base

After Lisa took off, Lily let out a quiet sigh of relief. 'Phew, dodged a bullet there! If she had found out, everything would've gone up in flames.'

Lily wasn't buying into Lisa's theory. She was dead set on the idea that the apocalypse didn't give humanity a free pass to go all survival of the fittest.

If that happened, humanity would be toast.

And forget about the big picture, Lily couldn't just ditch her students.

'Looks like she's got her eye on me, but she's got no proof and won't make a move yet. No biggie, by tomorrow, I'll be outta this hellhole!' Lily thought.

With a determined glint in her eye, Lily tried to play it cool as she headed back to her room.

This day was gonna be one for the books.

Even though everything seemed chill on the surface, Steven and the crew knew something huge was about to go down, something that could change their future.

So much so that Steven and a few others popped some melatonin to make sure they got a good night's sleep and set alarms to wake up on time the next day.

The night went by without a hitch.

Morning came in no time.

Steven and his gang slept in until around ten because they'd been up late the night before hashing out their game plan.

When they got up, Emilia, Nora, and Elinor had already whipped up a killer lunch.

Steven and the others chowed down while going over the battle plan, making sure every step was locked in.

Steven set a plate of fish next to his own, and Fluffy hopped up on the table to join them.

Everyone was used to Steven spoiling Fluffy.

Steven said, "So, the missile strike is set for midnight tonight. We need to get there early and get ready nearby. As soon as the missiles hit, Lily and her crew will use the chaos to make their escape."

Steven tapped the table hard with his finger. "We wait until Lily and her crew come out before we move in! If they don't show, it means something went wrong on their end. No guide, no go—scrap the plan immediately! Even though we know the layout of West Mountain Base, we could still get lost inside. We need someone to lead us."

Henry and Earl nodded like bobbleheads, totally on board with Steven's plan.

Steven went on, "Then, as planned, we blend into the chaos, plant the explosives, and get out. If anything goes sideways, don't hesitate, just bail! Safety first, no need to take unnecessary risks."

Steven valued his own skin the most.

Earl nodded quickly, showing he was all in on that point.

Henry said seriously, "So, for the plan to work, we need to make sure we rescue Lily and her students first, right?"

Steven smirked.

How to put it? Lily's students didn't really matter. But without Lily, his plans would hit a dead end.

"Yeah, let's go with that! But the key player is Lily, not her students," Steven replied.

The group went over the battle plan again and again, analyzing every possible scenario to make sure they were in the safest position possible.

"Alright, there's one more super important thing!" Steven said, looking seriously at Henry, Earl, and even Fluffy.

Fluffy, sensing Steven's intense gaze, lifted its head from the fish and looked at him.

Steven continued, "Since we'll be fighting in the chaos of their base, their big weapons and gear won't be in play. I can handle regular soldiers and guns, but the real pain is their six Psychics."

Steven looked at them expectantly. "I've got a sneaky plan to deal with them. But remember, if we can shake them off, we run. Escaping is always Plan A."

The waiting was pure torture. This day felt like it was dragging on forever.

Steven and Henry kept checking their weapons and gear.

Cindy was glued to the computer, keeping an eye on the whole network at West Mountain Base to catch any surprises.

The sky started to darken.

Steven glanced at his watch; it was already 8 PM.

Driving at night was slower, and they had to stay under the radar. So, the 31-mile drive to West Mountain Base would take about 3 hours.

"It's go time, let's move!" Steven suddenly stood up from the couch.

A determined look flashed in Henry and Earl's eyes, and they stood up, gritting their teeth.

The women walked over. Nora and the others hugged Steven and said gently, "Steven, come back to us safe and sound!"

Steven smiled and kissed each of them goodbye.

"Don't worry, my best skill is staying alive. I'll be fine!" Steven said.

Emilia also had a few words with Henry, helping him adjust his clothes.

Emilia's eyes were full of worry as she looked at Henry.

For these women, they had deep feelings for the men in their home.

These feelings might come from dependence, or maybe something else.

But they all knew that without these men, surviving the apocalypse would be a long shot.

Only Earl was alone, so he took out his phone and opened an app.

A two-dimensional girl popped up, smiling and encouraging him, "Darling, good luck!"

Earl immediately smiled, "I'll complete the mission and come back safe!"

As they were about to leave, Elinor still felt uneasy. She held Steven's hand and said, "Why don't you let me go with you? If you get hurt, I can help treat you."

But Steven shook his head and said, "If we run into trouble, it'll be with the Psychics. You wouldn't be able to help even if you were there. Besides, we all have emergency meds and can handle it ourselves."

Steven didn't make it too obvious. But Elinor understood that as an ordinary person, she might become a burden to them.

She looked at Steven, saying, "Alright then, don't forget to use the meds I gave you."

Steven nodded. "Don't worry, I won't forget."

The three of them left the safe house and headed downstairs into the night.

Steven took out the snowmobile and got into the driver's seat.

All three were in white combat suits, and if you didn't look closely, you might think they were members of the West Mountain Base's special forces.

Braving the snowy night, the snowmobile started and headed toward West Mountain Base.
