Chapter 178 Love Is a Disease
That night, Steven slept in Elinor's room.
He had to maintain a balance between the two women.
Everything existed in balance.
Elinor leaned against Steven's chest, looking at him pitifully. "Steven, do you love me more or her?"
Steven smiled and patted her head. "Silly girl, of course, I love you more! How could she compare to you?"
"You are my precious support. She's just an actress; I'm just playing along with her."
"But you two appear as if you're starring in a TV drama," she muttered.
"Fool, don't overthink it. My heart has only one room for you. Doubt not the depth of my affection." he replied.
These words weren't exactly lies.
In terms of attributes, Elinor was clearly more valuable than Nora.
Nora's only advantages were her cooking skills and the halo effect of her celebrity status.
Hearing Steven's words, Elinor smiled happily and hugged Steven tightly, "I knew you loved me the most!"
Looking at the petite Elinor in his arms, Steven just smiled faintly.
'Love?' Steven shook his head, not thinking much of it.
He thought to himself, 'I don't need love, nor do I have time for it.'
'I'm a man, and sometimes I need a woman.'
'But once my desires are satisfied, I'm ready to move on to other things.'
'Women, besides talking about love, can't do much else, so they place great importance on it, to a ridiculous extent.'
'They even try to convince us that our entire life revolves around love.'
'In reality, love is an insignificant part of life.'
'I only understand desire.'
'That's normal and healthy.'
'Love is a disease.'
In the following days, Steven kept observing the relationship between Elinor and Nora.
To intensify their conflict, Steven deliberately made subtle yet intentional intimate gestures toward Nora, all while Elinor watched on.
Although he didn't make it too obvious as per Nora's request, even a fleeting glance or a gentle touch of her hair was enough to capture the sensitive Elinor's attention, sparking her jealousy.
Elinor naturally didn't dare to complain to Steven.
But this jealousy made her even more hostile towards Nora.
And Nora?
She bore the brunt of it. Feeling guilty towards Elinor, she just worked harder.
After all, she could empathize with the pain of having a man taken away.
As for Steven, the instigator, he was quite pleased with the situation.
Firstly, he knew Nora still had some pride as a big star. Using Elinor, he could suppress her remaining arrogance.
Secondly, he didn't have to worry about the two women teaming up to cause him trouble.
With a harmonious household, his life was naturally very happy.
After leaving Sunshine Community, he no longer had troublesome neighbors.
He spent his days at home, either playing cards with them, playing badminton, or enjoying some AAA games.
Elinor developed a strong interest in video games.
She was often seen in her pajamas, sitting cross-legged on the couch, playing various AAA games with Steven.
The Psychic from Cox Town they encountered before never appeared again.
Probably knowing Steven was not to be messed with, they didn't dare to cross the line again.
After all, the guy was almost sniped by Steven across the river at that time!
The three of them lived a comfortable and pleasant life.
Out of guilt, Nora took on most of the household chores.
Elinor didn't hold back either.
For Steven, this was the best arrangement.
After all, Elinor was more useful to him. If anyone got sick, they would realize how crucial it was to have a doctor around.
However, during their time together, Steven discovered that Nora was not just a pretty face.
She had high standards for the quality of life.
Besides cooking delicious meals, she also knew how to take care of plants.
The half-abandoned garden was well taken care of by her.
Steven took some vegetable and plant seeds from the extradimensional space and gave them to her, entrusting her with the farm and garden.
Nora enjoyed it, finally finding something she could do.
And Steven, in his spare time, would go to the basement.
Every day, he insisted on doing two things: using the supercomputer to gather limited intelligence from around the world and training his supernatural ability in the stadium.
Initially, Steven envisioned a perpetual existence within the shelter, an impenetrable fortress shielding them from the ravages of the outside world.
He believed that he, along with his companions, could withstand the test of time, safe from the threats of hunger and inclement weather until the apocalypse drew its final breath.
But one day, a phone call broke this peace.
Just as Steven was on the second basement level, practicing precision shooting with a compound bow, his phone suddenly rang in his pocket.
Steven frowned.
The ringtone wasn't from a voice call but a phone dial.
This was very unusual.
For many years, apart from calls from telecom operators and scam calls, he rarely received calls from acquaintances.
People usually used more convenient voice calls to communicate.
But now, in the apocalypse, these calls were gone.
Where did this ringtone come from?
Curious, Steven took out his phone and saw a very unfamiliar number.
There were no notes, so it was clearly not someone he knew.
Steven was very puzzled, but in the apocalypse, he instinctively maintained a sense of crisis.
'The caller had ill intentions!' Steven thought for a moment and then hung up the call.
But unexpectedly, the call came in again soon after.
'In such a hurry? Could it be that someone I know is still alive and can only contact me by phone?'
Steven shook his head.
Not to mention the low probability, even if it was an old acquaintance, he didn't want to deal with it.
Steven hung up the call again and blocked the number.
But just as he was about to put his phone back in his pocket, it rang again.
It was the same number!
Steven was really shocked.
He had been certain that he had blocked the caller, so how could the caller still get through?
Steven swallowed, clearly realizing things were getting strange.
Steven took a deep breath, hung up the call again, and re-blocked the number.
"Maybe I didn't operate it correctly just now, so I made a mistake. It can't be that weird!" Steven muttered to himself.
This time, he watched the number enter the blacklist with his own eyes.
Then, he stared at the phone screen intently.
If the call came through again, it would really mean he had seen a ghost!
Reality didn't disappoint him.
A few seconds later, the phone rang again.
It was the same number.
