Chapter 255 Test Subject

Warren was bundled up in layers, even though it wasn't that chilly down here. He had his jacket zipped all the way up.

If it weren't so dark, Lily would've noticed the bruises and nail marks on his face.

"Warren!" Lily had been wondering why she hadn't seen him around before.

Warren led Lily to a secluded room with barely any light. The darkness felt oddly comforting.

"Ms. Evans, this place is seriously creepy! You gotta find a way to get us out of here!" Warren's voice cracked, and he started to lose it.

Lily was shocked, trying to comfort Warren while asking, "Warren, tell me, what did you find out?"

Warren wiped his tears and said, "Because of some special work, I sometimes get taken to the Second Life Warehouse."

He continued, "One day, I saw a few people in white protective suits carrying two long bags. I got curious because they looked like sleeping bags, and whatever was inside looked like two people."

"So I quietly followed them, and guess what I saw?" Warren's voice started to shake, like he didn't want to remember that day.

Lily swallowed hard. "What did you see?"

Warren's voice trembled as he said, "I saw them drag two bodies out of the bags and throw them into a huge machine."

He suddenly covered his head, his face twisted in horror. "I saw Hugh's tattoo on one of the bodies' arms!"

Lily was stunned. Even though she had been somewhat prepared, the news was still overwhelming. She staggered back a few steps.

"Are you sure it was Hugh?" she asked.

Warren said, "Yes! I used to go swimming with Hugh. His tattoo was done by a famous artist abroad. I couldn't mistake it!"

The last bit of hope in Lily's heart vanished.

'This West Mountain Base actually killed my students! Why? Why would they kill a group of harmless students?' Lily couldn't understand.

She was angry, confused, and desperate for answers.

Warren pleaded, "Ms. Evans, you're our only hope now! Please think of a way to protect us."

"The number of students in the class is decreasing one by one. If this keeps up, we'll all be dead!"

Lily looked at the terrified Warren in front of her, took a deep breath, and tried to calm down.

She was a teacher, and at this moment, the students' only hope. She couldn't panic; she had to do something.

"Warren, have you told anyone else about this?" she asked.

Warren shook his head. "I didn't dare tell them. Knowing this wouldn't help."

Lily nodded. "That's right, don't mention this to anyone for now. Not even the classmates! Tell me where you saw them handling the bodies. I'll go check it out later."

Warren nodded and told Lily the location.

Lily memorized it and then sent Warren back.

"Ms. Evans, please hurry. Otherwise... I might be next." Warren pleaded before leaving.

Lily took a deep breath and firmly nodded. "Okay."

She decided to take action tonight.

Even though it was underground, the people in the First and Second Life Warehouse still kept good sleeping habits.

Except for a few guards, most folks wouldn't be up and about at night.

The key thing was that the Tiger Special Forces, the main muscle of West Mountain Base, were busy with the mission to rescue Brittany and Zane.

Lily left the power plant, ready to do some investigating.

The spot Warren mentioned was at a corner where the Second and Third Life Warehouses met.

It was pretty secluded, and not many people usually passed by.

Lily made her way to the Second Life Warehouse.

She knew the guard posts around here like the back of her hand.

Lily activated her Supernatural Ability and slipped into a meditative state.

This let her move silently, almost like she was invisible.

She found the place Warren had talked about.

Even though it was nighttime, there were still two armed guards at the door.

Lily frowned.

Taking out these two would be a piece of cake for her. But without knowing the full story, she didn't want to start a fight with West Mountain Base. That could get messy!

But if she missed this chance tonight, more students might disappear.

Just as Lily was stuck in this dilemma, she heard footsteps.

She quickly hid in a corner and peeked out.

She saw four people in white protective suits carrying two body bags.

When they passed the restroom, the two people at the back suddenly stopped.

One of them made some gestures to the others, then let the two in front go ahead.

She and her colleague dropped the body bags on the ground and she walked into the restroom.

Seeing this, her colleague lingered outside for a few seconds before also going into the men's restroom. 'Guess I'll use the restroom too,' the male worker thought.

Lily's eyes lit up, thinking, 'Isn't this my chance?'

She quickly slipped into the women's restroom and knocked out the female staff member from behind.

Lily swiftly changed into her work clothes and walked out quietly.

The male worker, who had been waiting for a while, waved at Lily when he saw her come out.

The two of them picked up the body bags and walked towards the closed room.

Lily carefully followed, and the guards at the door let them pass after a quick glance.

The male worker knocked on the door, and the silver-gray metal door opened.

The staff inside were also wearing white protective suits.

After glancing at the body bags, one of them smiled and said, "Another failure! This is the eighth one recently!"

The male colleague said, "There's nothing we can do; they can't adapt."

Lily listened, puzzled, thinking, 'Adapt to what?'

She didn't speak, just silently followed the guy in front to carry the body bags inside.

Other staff members quickly took over the body bags and pulled out a horrifying corpse.

Lily saw clearly that although the corpse still looked half-human, the other half seemed infected by some deadly virus, showing a terrifying crimson color. The muscle tissue was bulging, and the blood vessels and bones were clearly visible!

'What on earth is this base researching!' Lily's eyes widened in shock, filled with both curiosity and fear!
