Chapter 319 Ice and Fire
Everything was going just as Steven had planned.
The chaos he stirred up in no time let him sneak the explosives into The Second Life Warehouse.
The folks here were the heart and soul of the West Mountain Base. If they all bit the dust, the base would be toast.
Even if some soldiers were left, they'd be a mess without proper command.
So, even the worst-case scenario was cool with Steven.
But when he saw soldiers flooding in from every direction, he was still a bit taken aback.
Good thing he had juiced himself up with a stimulant.
Instead of fear, he felt a rush of excitement, his blood pumping with joy.
Steven opened the Dimension Door, whipped out his rifle, and started blasting away with armor-piercing bullets—specially made for the special forces' armor.
In just five minutes, he'd taken down at least thirty people.
But soldiers kept coming.
They had orders to stall Steven and his crew.
With these guys throwing themselves into the fray, it did slow down Steven and his team's escape.
Henry morphed into a giant, smashing through obstacles. His skin was like granite, and bullets just bounced off.
Steven shouted, "Henry, watch out!"
Even though Henry's skin was tough, Steven still worried.
Henry grinned, "Relax, I'm good!"
Henry's strength wasn't just his bulk but also his healing power. As long as it wasn't a fatal hit, he'd bounce back quick.
Just then, five special forces soldiers in white armor showed up in front of Henry.
Some of them were old faces to Steven, like Shawn and Yosef. These five were all cyborgs with Charles' cells!
When Shawn and Yosef spotted Steven and his crew, their eyes went red.
Back then, a bunch of them went on a mission, and now only the two of them were left; the rest had all fallen to Steven.
With that kind of deep-seated grudge, how could they not hate Steven?
"Steven!!!!" Shawn bellowed, "You're gonna regret showing your face here. Today, you're going down!"
The five of them knew Steven's tricks, so they ditched the guns.
Out came military knives, claw blades, batons, all sorts of weapons.
Henry snorted, "If you wanna get to Steven, you gotta go through me first!"
Henry was Steven's shield and wouldn't let anyone lay a finger on him!
The five cyborgs squared off against Henry, ready for an epic showdown.
But to their surprise, as soon as they made contact with Henry, his massive arm swung out and sent all five of them flying!
They slammed into the wall, the impact messing up their insides and making them cough up blood.
"You guys are just crude cyborgs. Do you really think you can match a natural Psychic?" Steven said coolly.
Henry was stronger than ever because his body's mutation kept evolving, making his supernatural abilities even more powerful.
On the flip side, cyborgs had built-in flaws. Their mutant cells ate away at their normal ones, making them weaker and no match for Psychics.
"Is that all you got?" Henry said, a bit disappointed. "I was hoping for a real Psychic to have a proper fight!"
Henry's fists were itching for action. Even though he had all this power, he hadn't had a real fight yet. It made the old soldier in him restless.
"Better hope you don't have to. I'd rather never fight anyone ever again," Steven said.
If he could live a peaceful life, who'd want to be fighting and killing all the time?
The group quickly moved past the five downed cyborgs.
"Think you can just run away?" A cold laugh echoed, and a tall, thin guy stepped out from around the corner.
The gold star on his uniform marked him as a captain!
Steven recognized him right away—code name "Burning Man," Psychic Mason!
"Dimension Door!" Steven quickly opened the Dimension Door.
Mason sneered, then stretched out his hands toward Steven and his crew, and a massive fiery dragon roared down the passage!
The Dimension Door swallowed the fiery dragon, but Mason's attack kept coming, and no one knew how long it would last.
"He's stalling us!" Steven frowned, realizing Mason's plan.
Once Steven opened the Dimension Door, he couldn't move it.
In other words, unless Mason stopped, Steven couldn't leave.
And that fire control skill, which Steven thought was useless in the ice age, was wreaking havoc here!
At the very least, the scorching heat was spreading along the walls. Even the reinforced concrete walls were starting to glow red.
The temperature of Mason's flames had to be over a thousand degrees Fahrenheit!
But if Steven didn't act fast, the other special forces behind them would catch up.
They were almost at the passage, and getting stuck here was not an option!
Steven yelled, "Earl, you're up!"
As soon as he said it, Steven's Dimension Door suddenly spewed out a massive amount of ice and snow!
The swirling snowstorm quickly snuffed out Mason's fiery dragon.
Mason stepped back but still blocked the passage. He sneered, "You think a little snow can stop me? Too naive!"
He reached behind him, pulled out a large metal canister, unscrewed the cap, and poured out a black, oily substance.
This was a special fuel, ten times more potent than gasoline when ignited!
The black liquid spread at Mason's feet.
With a snap of his fingers, a small flame appeared on his fingertips, turning into a nimble little snake that dropped to the ground.
Flames shot up, reaching 20 feet high.
But Mason stood in the middle of the blaze, untouched, not even a singe on his clothes.
He waved his fingers, controlling an even more powerful fiery dragon to attack Steven and his crew!
"Let's see how long you can hold out! Captain Reed and the others will be here soon! You're finished!" Mason laughed.
He was trying to mess with their heads, hoping Steven would slip up.
But all three had injected stimulants, and instead of fear, they felt even more pumped.
As Mason's fiery dragon attacked, Earl rushed forward, his hands glowing with a pale blue light. The ice and snow Steven had brought were under his control, forming a massive snowstorm to counterattack!
Earl's powers only worked in icy conditions.
So Steven had collected a ton of ice and snow using the extradimensional space to make Earl effective.
The clash of the snowstorm and the fiery dragon created a huge cloud of steam in the passage.
Mason was stunned; their intel didn't have much on Earl. None of them had seen Earl in action before.
But the time and space Earl created gave Steven and his team a chance to escape.
"Go!" Taking advantage of Earl holding off Mason, Steven and Henry charged forward.
But then, a terrifying gust of wind came from behind them.
"You wanted a fight? I'll give you one!" A familiar voice reached Steven's ears.
Steven's eyes widened; he knew that voice.
Even though Mason had only stalled them for a few seconds, it was enough for others to catch up!
"Watch out!" Steven warned everyone.
But the next moment, a blurry figure sped through the passage, bringing a terrifying gust of wind, heading straight for Henry, who was covering their rear.
Henry couldn't see the figure clearly but instinctively threw a punch forward!
The figure didn't dodge but extended his fist as well.
In the next moment, Steven and the others saw Henry's massive body stagger back seven or eight steps before collapsing to the ground.
Henry's right arm was twisted at a bizarre angle, his right fist smashed to a pulp, with bones exposed.
Henry, who had evolved for physical strength, was taken down with one blow!
Steven took a deep breath and looked at the man.
The only one who could knock down Henry with one hit in the entire West Mountain Base was the terrifying monster Charles!
Charles stood 32 feet away from Steven, not moving closer.
It wasn't because Charles was being gentlemanly and didn't take the opportunity to attack, but because the moment Henry was knocked back, Steven had opened the Dimension Door, blocking Charles's path.
If Charles charged in, he would enter the Dimension Door.
In that case, no matter how strong Charles was, he would be at Steven's mercy.
But Charles, relying on his strong intuition, sensed this.
Earl, seeing this, was sweating profusely. "Henry, are you okay?"
Henry's forehead was covered in sweat, but due to the stimulant, he didn't feel much pain.
"I'm fine, just... feels like I got hit by a locomotive," Henry replied.
Without a word, Steven took out another vial of stimulant and tossed it to Henry.
This stuff could be injected up to three times, after which it would cause severe side effects, leaving a person weak for two weeks.
But now, they couldn't worry about those issues.
Steven had to restore Henry's combat ability to face the formidable Charles.
Ahead, Earl was resisting Mason with the snowstorm. Due to the attribute restraint, it was impossible for either to win in a short time.
For Steven, that was enough.
At least Steven could focus on dealing with Charles and his team chasing from behind.
Fluffy's fur stood on end, growling.
Lily also placed her hand on her sword hilt, ready for battle.
"Don't worry, Charles can't get through!" Steven said calmly.
Steven had said before, with the Dimension Door, in such a narrow space, he was invincible!
If not for this, Steven wouldn't have risked coming inside the West Mountain Base.
Charles stood in front of the Dimension Door, sensing the strange space.
But after the previous battle, Charles knew this extradimensional space had no offensive capability.
So as long as he didn't enter, Steven couldn't do anything to him.
He crossed his arms and sneered at Steven, "Do you think you can escape this time?"
Behind Charles, one captain-level Psychic after another appeared.
They looked at Steven with obvious hatred.
