Chapter 309 Intel on the West Mountain Base
After hearing Cindy's plan, Steven's heart started racing.
"Can we really pull this off? If we mess with the coordinates, won't they catch on?" he asked.
Steven figured the tech guys over there weren't that clueless, they had to know their own coordinates.
Cindy replied, "It's not about the coordinates they send, but the ones the other side gets. I can block their message and use their computer to send the coordinates for West Mountain Base."
Steven straightened up and let out a long breath. "That's awesome!"
Using their own missiles against them—what could be more exciting?
"But, West Mountain Base isn't that easy to take down, right?" Steven muttered, rubbing his chin.
Thinking about it, he called Aubrey over.
Even though Aubrey was a mechanical engineering whiz, she knew a ton about physics too.
"Aubrey, can you help me figure out if West Mountain Base can handle a missile hit based on its structure?" Steven asked.
Aubrey came over right away.
Cindy pulled up the base's structural diagram.
After checking it out, Aubrey frowned. "Honestly, this place is built like a tank. It's buried over three hundred feet underground. Missiles, even nukes, unless they hit dead center, won't do much. But if it's a bunker-buster designed for underground targets, it could cause serious damage. Still, taking it out with one hit? Not happening."
Aubrey shrugged. "This kind of fortification is made for war. It's not going down easy!"
Steven frowned, deep in thought. He couldn't make up his mind just yet.
He told Cindy, "Cindy, go ahead and change their coordinates like you said. Make sure the missile aimed at the shelter hits West Mountain Base. And also, get me all the info on West Mountain Base. I need to go over it later."
Cindy nodded. "Got it, Steven."
Steven walked out of the room, looking serious, hands in his pockets.
Aubrey blinked and asked Cindy, "What's Steven thinking? Isn't the problem solved?"
Cindy frowned, thought for a bit, and then shook her head slowly.
"I can't figure it out either," Cindy said.
"Even you can't guess?" Aubrey blinked.
Cindy was pulling up info on West Mountain Base. Right now, their network was like an open book to her, letting her access any data she wanted.
Cindy said, "I think he might want to use this chance to hit West Mountain Base. But knowing how cautious he is, would he really take that risk?"
Aubrey thought about Steven's usually steady nature and nodded. "Yeah, he usually plays it safe rather than going on the offensive."
These two women were super smart.
Just because they're smart didn't mean they could read minds. Understanding people took empathy and emotional intelligence.
Steven pushed open the door and stepped out of the safe house.
What he was thinking about was whether to use this chance to completely wipe out West Mountain Base!
It was a wild plan, not really Steven's usual style.
But it was something Steven had seriously thought about and believed was both possible and necessary.
If it wasn't absolutely necessary, Steven didn't want to fight with anyone.
He just wanted to live in the shelter with a few beautiful and lovely women.
But the beef between him and West Mountain Base had reached a point of no return.
Even if he dodged West Mountain Base's missile attack this time, who could say there wouldn't be another one?
Peter used to be a big shot in Starlight City and had connections all over the Astralium Kingdom.
This time, Peter managed to get missiles from Silvercrest District to hit the shelter, so what about next time?
'What's next?' Steven wondered.
Steven had to either ditch the shelter and leave or take out West Mountain Base for some long-term peace.
But both options were risky.
Finding another shelter as good as Emerald Estate was nearly impossible across the country.
In the past few decades, the Astralium Kingdom hadn't seen a boom in building high-end shelters.
A place like Emerald Estate 101, with its top-notch defense system and comfy living space, was one of a kind. If there were another, it would've been snatched up by some other powerhouse.
So, Steven didn't want to give up his shelter.
But the second option meant going head-to-head with West Mountain Base, and fighting wasn't Steven's strong suit.
Steven headed to the room on the 20th floor.
This was where he used to practice his Supernatural ability, and you could still see the charred remains of burnt wood on the ground.
He pulled a chair over, sat by the window, and watched the snowflakes fall, thinking about whether to go through with it.
There was only one shot. And that was during the missile attack. Even if it couldn't wipe out West Mountain Base, it would cause massive panic.
Steven had a weapon that could destroy West Mountain Base—1100 pounds of TNT he had stashed away, plus several hundred pounds Aubrey had made for him, totaling nearly 2200 pounds!
If he could use the chaos to get these explosives inside the base, the effect would be epic.
"Even if I can't blow up West Mountain Base, taking out the people inside would be just as good, right?" Steven muttered, resting his chin on his hand and watching the snow.
Dreams are always nice, but reality can be harsh. Steven wasn't sure if it would work.
He wasn't a risk-taker. But being attacked and humiliated over and over and just running away wasn't his style either.
'I don't look for trouble, but I'm not afraid of it!' After thinking for a long time, Steven finally made up his mind—he needed to go back and study it more.
But he didn't have much time to think.
When the missile attack happened, West Mountain Base would be in chaos for a bit, which would be the best time to strike.
But if he missed this chance and they got their act together, it would be much harder to attack later.
Steven went back to the safe house. In the living room, Elinor, Nora, and Emilia were chatting.
Emilia looked healthier and even a few years younger than before.
It was clear she had been well taken care of by Henry recently.
Hearing the door open, Elinor and Nora looked at Steven with eyes full of reproach.
Steven had been busy dealing with West Mountain Base's attacks lately, leaving little time to spend with them.
Steven coughed, ignored their looks, and walked into Cindy and Aubrey's room.
"Cindy," Steven walked up behind Cindy, holding her wheelchair, "I need to see the current military setup of West Mountain Base. Their troops, weaponry, I need to know everything. And one very crucial point, the intel on their Psychics!"
Cindy was taken aback and asked, "Steven, are you seriously thinking about attacking West Mountain Base?"
Steven looked at her calmly and said, "If there's a good enough chance of success, why not? We need to flip the script; we can't always be the prey. It's time to become the hunters!"
Steven chuckled. "But first, I need to see what we're up against. If the gap is too big, just consider this a crazy idea."
Cindy suddenly covered her mouth and laughed. "Now that's the Steven I know! But honestly, you did give me a bit of a scare. The data's all set. You can check it out anytime. Should I pull it up now?"
Steven nodded. "Yeah, I need it now!"
Cindy made some room, and Steven pulled up a chair and sat down.
Quickly, Cindy brought up the current military and weapon configurations of West Mountain Base.
At this stage, West Mountain Base had 512 regular soldiers.
These soldiers were serving standard military terms, ranging from 3 to 10 years, with decent combat skills, proficient in various weapons, and some close combat techniques.
These soldiers were mainly for dealing with ordinary folks and posed little threat to powerful combat-type Psychics.
The core combat force, the Tiger Special Forces, had 64 members.
This list had already removed the more than 50 members Steven had taken out.
The special forces members were the real deal.
They were either special forces soldiers or elite members of certain specialized units, with highly advanced skills in specific areas.
Additionally, the true peak of combat power consisted of the Psychic captains and some successfully mutated cyborgs.
Here, Steven reviewed the details of both.
West Mountain Base had a considerable number of Psychics. According to the data, excluding Lily, there were still six left!
Some of these Psychics had innate abilities. Others had awakened their Supernatural abilities through external stimuli.
For those who didn't successfully awaken their Supernatural abilities, they gained extraordinary powers through another method—cell mutation implants.
According to the data, they implanted cells from Charles.
A small number of successfully implanted soldiers survived, resulting in highly similar supernatural abilities.
However, due to the mutation caused by the implanted cells, their growth potential was almost zero, and they suffered permanent, irreparable damage to their bodies.
This was like organ transplants; while medication could ease rejection, it could never completely eliminate the negative effects.
The lifespan of cyborgs was significantly shorter than that of ordinary people and Psychics.
West Mountain Base currently had 13 cyborgs. Their combat power was below that of combat-type Psychics but far exceeded that of ordinary elite soldiers.
Although these individuals could be somewhat troublesome, they wouldn't be a major problem.
After browsing through their data, Steven quickly focused on the part he was most concerned about—the data on the captain-level Psychics of West Mountain Base.
[Charles: Strengthening System
[Ability Code: "Superman," capable of enhancing all bodily functions, possessing combat skills several times that of a normal human.]
[Speed: ★★★★★]
[Strength: ★★★★★]
[Supernatural ability: None]
[Overall Ability: ★★★★★]
[Rating: S.]
After reading Charles' data, Steven couldn't help but take a deep breath.
Charles was indeed worthy of being the captain of West Mountain Base's special forces; his strength was formidable.
Although the two had never directly fought, Steven could sense Charles' terrifying presence even through a window.
After all, Charles was the kind of guy who could leave fist imprints on the shelter's walls with his bare hands.
Even the defective products implanted with his cells could dodge sniper bullets. Let alone Charles himself.
"If we want to attack West Mountain Base, this is the guy I need to watch out for the most," Steven muttered to himself.
Luckily, Charles' data didn't show any long-range attack capabilities.
As long as Steven kept a safe distance from him, there shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Even though Charles had an incredibly strong body, his speed would be reduced in the icy and snowy environment. That was a weakness.
Next, Steven continued to review the abilities of the other Psychics.
[Mason: Release system]
[Ability Code: "Burning Man," can release high-temperature flames from his body.]
[Speed: ★★]
[Strength: ★]
[Supernatural ability: ★★★]
[Overall Ability: ★★]
[Rating: B.]
Seeing Mason's introduction, Steven couldn't help but laugh.
Awakening a fire-based Supernatural ability in an ice age, Mason was really unlucky.
He could probably only fully utilize his ability in special environments!
Steven continued reading.
[Clay: Control system]
[Ability Code: "Ice Covered," can create solid ice blocks for combat.]
[Speed: ★★]
[Strength: ★]
[Supernatural ability: ★★★★]
[Overall Ability: ★★★]
[Rating: A.]
[Aiden: Orcs system]
[Ability Code: "Poisonous Beast," can transform into a giant monster, greatly enhancing strength, with highly corrosive bodily fluids.]
[Speed: ★★★]
[Strength: ★★★★]
[Supernatural ability: ★★]
[Overall Ability: ★★★]
[Rating: A-.]
[Shane: Orcs system]
[Ability Code: "Giant Ape," can transform into a giant ape, greatly enhancing physical strength, with cold resistance.]
[Speed: ★★★]
[Strength: ★★★★]
[Supernatural ability: None]
[Overall Ability: ★★★★]
[Rating: A.]
[Evelyn: Spirit system]
[Ability Code: "Witch," the code name is deceptive, hiding her true ability "Deep Hypnosis." Can hypnotize others through brainwaves, simulating death, and even causing brain death. The ability is most effective through eye contact.]
[Speed: ★]
[Strength: ★]
[Supernatural ability: ★★★ (★)]
[Overall Ability: ★★★ (★)]
[Rating: A-.]
Here, Steven encountered for the first time the upper organization's classification of Psychic abilities.
According to the intelligence from West Mountain Base, the higher-ups had already formed a professional organization to classify Psychics into six types based on their abilities.
[1. Strengthening System: Any Supernatural ability that enhances bodily functions in human form falls into this category.]
[2. Orcs System: Psychics who mutate to gain special abilities from other organisms, including animals and insects, and undergo morphological changes fall into this category.]
[3. Control System: Any Supernatural ability that involves telekinesis and the control of objects falls into this category.]
[4. Release System: Similar to the Control System, but includes those who can release magic-like attacks from their bodies.]
[5. Spirit System: Those who interfere with others' brains through brainwaves fall into this category.]
[6. Trait System: Any Psychic that cannot be classified into the above five types falls into this category.]
It was evident that the upper organization’s classification of Psychics was still quite rudimentary, only able to categorize based on basic manifestations of Supernatural abilities.
Perhaps in the future, as more Psychic data was collected, they would conduct more detailed classifications.
Steven pondered for a moment. His Supernatural ability was spatial, which didn't fit into any of the first five categories, so it would have to be classified under the broad Trait System.
