Chapter 87 The Rapids Gang's Revenge
Steven held the sniper rifle with satisfaction, observing the entire neighborhood through the scope.
Since it was nighttime and the other houses had no electricity, the apartment building was pitch black inside.
However, thanks to the reflection of the snow, the outside was still a vast white, with some scenery faintly visible.
Suddenly, Steven's eyes narrowed.
When he looked toward the nearby garage, he saw two small black dots moving in his sight.
"Some people in the garage... It looks like they're after my snowmobile!"
Steven showed a mocking smile.
During the day, he had pretended to put the snowmobile into the garage.
Sure enough, someone came sneaking over at night.
Too bad for them, it was destined to be a futile effort.
After a while, Henry arrived.
Seeing a whole unopened box of bread at the door, he was welled up with excitement.
"I don't expect it to be Wonder Bread, Steven, you're too generous!"
If they rationed this box of bread, it would be enough for the three of them for a week.
Knowing Steven didn't have much food himself but still gave him so much bread, Henry felt nothing but gratitude.
Steven didn't have much bread at home; there were only over twenty thousand boxes in the warehouse.
And until now, he hadn't eaten a single pack. After all, he had gourmet meals made by top chefs in his space; he wouldn't eat that!
Henry picked up the bread, knocked on the door, and said, "Steven, I'm taking the bread. Thank you!"
Steven put down the sniper rifle, came to the door, and said, "Henry, don't mention it!"
He didn't care about others' lives, but he had to protect Henry and make sure he was well-fed.
Only then could Henry become his top enforcer and human shield.
It was not that Steven was heartless! He wouldn't let Henry die for him unless it was absolutely necessary.
Yes, unless it was absolutely necessary.
Henry scratched his head and chuckled. "Don't mind what Cara said to you during the day! She has a way with words."
Lowering his eyes, Steven smiled faintly, "I won't take it to heart. I'm not a petty person!"
"But Mr. Garcia, are you really going to raise someone else's child?" Steven's tone was probing.
He didn't like Cara, but he didn't want to cause a rift between him and Henry either.
So, he had to sow discord little by little.
Henry smiled, "I can't help it! Finding a woman like her is already good enough for me."
Steven nodded. "You're right. Actually, Mrs. Daniels is a good woman, and she's also quite attractive. Plus, she can have children."
"I mean no offense, just that Mr. Garcia, you're underestimating yourself."
"These days, a strong and skilled man like you is in high demand!"
"In fact, it wouldn't be too much to say you could even find a movie star!"
Henry was pleased with the compliment. "Am I really that good?"
Steven said, "You see the situation now. Those who can only sing and dance are useless; they can't even support themselves."
"It's men like us who can give women a sense of security."
At this point, Steven changed the subject.
"But Mrs. Daniels is really quite good. If you work hard, maybe she could have a child for you!"
"After all, a man should have his own children. Raising someone else's kid, well, it's a bit..."
Henry felt a bit uncomfortable inside.
Steven's words stirred up some thoughts in him.
He did like Cara; she was voluptuous and satisfied him.
But the child was less than a year old, a real burden in these times.
To take care of her, Henry was often woken up at night and couldn't rest properly.
If it were his own child, it would be different, but it wasn't.
People were inherently selfish.
Henry had long been dissatisfied but had been suppressing it, not thinking too deeply.
Moreover, Cara kept telling him to treat the child as his own daughter, promising she'd repay him when she grew up.
Over time, Henry honestly helped raise the child.
But Steven's words reminded him, making him think differently.
"Having kids, I can't consider that now. Maybe when things settle down." Henry forced a smile, suppressing his feelings.
"You're right. I was just saying. Mr. Garcia, don't mind me!" Steven replied, "I respect you and Mrs. Daniels very much and sincerely hope you both find happiness."
Henry nodded, "I'll head back now. Contact me anytime if you need anything!"
After Henry left, Steven loaded the sniper rifle's magazine and put it back into the extradimensional space.
These rifles and sniper rifles would become his secret weapons.
After a while, the sound of water in the bathroom stopped.
Elinor walked out wrapped in a pink towel, her smooth skin underneath.
Her well-toned long legs had elegant lines, glowing seductively under the light.
Steven lay on the couch, rubbing his temples lazily. "I'm a bit tired today. Come over and give me a massage."
Elinor nodded, walked over to Steven, and gently began massaging him.
That night, the Rapids gang, having lost four members, launched another attack on Building 25.
Their recent successes made them underestimate everyone in Building 25 except Steven.
But this time, they were unexpectedly met with resistance.
Leading the group was Owen's nephew, James Rodriguez, who was skilled in nighttime ambushes.
Around 2 AM, he led eight people into Building 25 under the cover of darkness.
Unexpectedly, as soon as they reached the stairs, bricks were thrown down from above.
The people on duty spotted the enemies and immediately retaliated with whatever they had.
They wielded kitchen knives, clubs, and other weapons, blocking the Rapids gang from above, throwing stones, bricks, and any heavy objects they could find to delay them.
While resisting, they also banged on the stairs and windows, making noise to alert the neighbors.
Soon, the entire building was awake.
Driven by revenge and scarcity of resources, James and his men decided to force their way in.
But their numbers were too few; even with their combat prowess, they couldn't fight so many people.
Moreover, thanks to Steven's bounty, each enemy was worth food for five people!
The neighbors, like they were on adrenaline, scrambled to kill!
The fight lasted only a few minutes, with everyone aiming to kill, leaving three bodies on the scene.
Seeing the situation turn against them, James shouted, "Retreat, go, go!!"
As they fled, the neighbors of Building 25 were thrilled, chasing after them excitedly.
One worker, too slow to climb out the window, got a kitchen knife stuck in his butt, the blade sinking halfway in!
He screamed in pain, struggling to crawl out.
Once they were outside, the neighbors didn't dare to pursue further, not knowing what might be out there at night.
But by then, Steven had been woken up by the noise.
He came to the balcony, watching the fleeing Rapids gang members, and suddenly had an idea. 'From this distance, can I shoot them dead with my sniper rifle?'
