Chapter 72 Henry Borrows Medicine

Steven glanced at her upon hearing this.

Elinor, fearing Steven might be displeased with her, hurriedly explained, "At that time, the snowstorm had just started. I thought it would pass quickly."

Steven responded with a dismissive smile, placing his phone on the table and crossing his hands. "That's not the issue."

"The supplies you gave her should have run out long ago, right? How has she managed to survive until now?" He pointed out.

Elinor, still chewing on a rib, silently put it back into her bowl upon hearing Steven's question.

"Jack died about ten days ago because he had no medication." She answered.

Steven nodded. "That makes sense then."

He suddenly laughed. "Clara always said Jack was her treasure and that she never wanted to be apart from him. Well, she certainly kept her word."

Elinor couldn't help but cover her mouth, giving Steven a reproachful look. "I'm eating!"

Seeing his prank succeed, Steven couldn't help but laugh.

He suddenly felt that having a woman around made life much more interesting.

At least, conversations wouldn't be so dull.

In the midst of their conversation, a shout suddenly came from outside.

Both of them turned to look out the window.

About 130 feet away from the Building 25, a naked man was standing on the balcony of Building 18, raising his arms and shouting into the wind.

Then, under their watchful eyes, he dove down like a diver.

Elinor frowned slightly and couldn't help but sigh, "When will this snowstorm ever end?"

In this post-apocalyptic world, many chose to commit suicide out of hopelessness.

Steven shook his head. "Who knows? The changes in nature are beyond the current technological capabilities of humanity to control."

"The essential point is that we remain alive." He added.

Just as they were speaking, Steven's phone rang.

He picked it up and saw that it was the security guard, Henry, calling.

Given Steven's past life experiences, in this life, there were only two people he trusted.

One was Henry, and the other was Elinor.

Both of them had sacrificed for others and adhered to human moral principles until their deaths.

That was why he allowed Elinor into his home to become his servant.

And Henry was the second most stocked person in the entire building, right after Steven.

To this day, his supplies were still relatively sufficient.

A single man in his forties, with no children, worked as a security guard.

Such a person, to save on living costs, naturally liked to stockpile cheap bread and sausages at home.

Steven picked up the phone and answered. "Hello, Mr. Garcia."

"Steven, are...are you doing okay?" Henry's speech was stuttering, with an awkward laugh in his voice.

Steven had known him for many years and knew that at times like this, Henry usually needed a favor and felt embarrassed about it.

Steven weighed it over in his mind.

If Henry was asking to borrow supplies, he could give him some.

After all, Henry had served in the military for five years and was physically adept.

In the future, if Steven encountered any problems, he could call on Henry to help out and fight.

So Steven was willing to give him some appropriate benefits.

"Mr. Garcia, I'm doing fine. It's just that with an extra person at home, the supplies are running out a bit faster."

He glanced at Elinor.

Elinor flushed slightly and continued eating.

"Well, that is indeed a problem. With an extra person, there's more consumption. That's true." Henry's tone weakened, seemingly embarrassed to state his purpose.

But after hesitating for a while, he finally said, "Steven, I... I need to ask you for a favor."

Steven replied, "Mr. Garcia, Don't be shy. Just say it. If it's something I can help with, I will certainly do my best."

Henry, embarrassed, said, "Here's the thing, Cara's daughter Mia has a fever, and I don't have any medicine at home."

"Mia's whole body is red, and both her mother and I are very anxious. Do you... do you have any medicine?" By the end, Henry's voice was trembling, filled with pleading.

Steven's eyes widened in surprise.

He didn't expect Cara to seek help from the kind-hearted Henry!

Cara had quite the eye, managing to pick out the second most stocked person right after Steven in the building.

But remembering Cara's situation in the previous life, Steven immediately understood.

She appeared pitiful, but in the end, she lived longer than Steven. She clearly wasn't as simple as she seemed.

Cara was not yet thirty this year, with a looks rating of 6 out of 10, but her figure was quite full after having her daughter, Mia Daniels.

Henry, being single until now, couldn't resist the allure of such a mature woman.

Steven had no intention of meddling in others' private affairs.

If Cara could charm Henry into raising her child, that was her business and had nothing to do with him.

Steven said, "Oh, I see. Mr. Garcia, congratulations!"

Henry, a bit embarrassed, said, "We're just getting by together. You know my situation. If it weren't for the snowstorm, I wouldn't have found a wife."

Steven said, "I still have a few boxes of medicine. Come over and get them later!"

Steven's tone was casual, but the words "a few boxes" revealed a key piece of information.

That was, he didn't have much fever medicine left either.

Yet, in this harsh, resource-scarce environment, he still decisively gave it to him!

That meant Steven was being particularly kind to you!

In the future, you must also be kind to him, extremely kind.

Sure enough, Henry was so moved he couldn't speak for a while.

Then he said, "Steven, I can't thank you enough!"

"You've helped me twice now. I promise, if you ever need me, I'll be there to help you!" Henry vowed and moved.

Steven laughed. "Mr. Garcia, you are so polite. We've known each other for years. you're like family to me!"

"Come over and get the medicine quickly."

Opposite him, Elinor pouted, looking at Steven playfully and making a face at him.

She just realized that beneath Steven's cold and cautious exterior, there was a cunning side.

After hanging up the phone, Elinor curiously asked, "Are you really that close with Henry?"

Steven picked up his bowl and chopsticks, saying calmly, "Relationships between people are built on interests. This is even more evident in a post-apocalyptic world."

"Henry is a kind and physically strong person. I'm helping him now because I might need his help in the future."

At this point, Steven paused.

Then he said, "And from the bottom of my heart, I don't want the human kindness in him to fade away in this post-apocalyptic world. It's an especially precious thing."
