Chapter 7 Purchasing Equipment
After reading the introduction to the safe house, Steven immediately selected his service options.
First, the entire house would be reinforced, with all materials replaced. The walls, ceiling, and floor would all be made of 8-inch-thick alloy, directly replacing the original walls. This was an aerospace material, weighing only one-third of steel but ten times stronger than high-grade steel! Using this material to build a safe house would perfectly integrate into the building where Steven lives without causing any load-bearing issues.
The window glass would be the best bulletproof glass available in the world today. Additionally, the ventilation system would be equipped with air filtration functions, preventing any harmful gases from entering from the outside. Lastly, a complete surveillance system would be installed to monitor the house inside and out with no blind spots. The doors would be replaced with heavy-duty vault doors made of the same material as bank vaults, making them difficult to breach even with small explosives.
In short, Steven had only one requirement: to turn his house into an absolutely impenetrable safe house!
After selecting these options, Steven handed the tablet back to Alexander. After reading it, Alexander couldn't help but widen his eyes. A house of only 1200 square feet was being turned into a fortress.
"Just add some weapons, and this is practically a fortress!" Alexander said in a low voice.
Hearing this, Steven's eyes lit up. "Do you know a lot about fortresses?"
Alexander laughed, "I used to be a mercenary abroad, so I'm well-versed in military and weaponry knowledge."
A flash of inspiration crossed Steven's mind. He suddenly lowered his voice and asked Alexander, "Do you know how to get good guns?"
This question made Alexander's expression turn serious. In The Astralium Kingdom, good firearms were not allowed for private ownership.
"Mr. Rogers, you should understand that, in principle, such things are not allowed for private ownership," Alexander also said in a low voice. "Are you in some kind of trouble that makes you this scared?"
Steven responded accordingly, "Yes, I've offended some very dangerous people. They are ruthless and have a lot of guns."
"I was thinking if I could get some guns for self-defense. Otherwise, I'll just be a sitting duck in my house, and that would be terrible!" he added.P
Alexander smiled slightly, "Mr. Rogers, I'm afraid I can't help you with that. We are a legitimate company."
But from Alexander's eyes, Steven could tell that he wasn't unable to get guns; he just wasn't willing to take the risk for him.
Steven took a deep breath and then said to Alexander, "This safe house project is going to cost me $1.1 million. If I still run into trouble afterward, it wouldn't be good for your company's reputation either."
He stared at Alexander and said word by word, "I just want something for self-defense. If you can help me with this, I won't treat you badly."
Alexander didn't speak; he frowned, weighing the matter. He did have channels to buy guns, but he didn't know Steven's background and didn't dare to easily introduce him.
"You should go back first. Although I can't do this, I can ask around for you. If there's any news, I'll contact you," Alexander said.
Clearly, Alexander couldn't make up his mind at the moment. But Steven didn't push him; guns indeed require caution.
He smiled and said, "Alright, I'll wait for your news then. By the way, I'm in a hurry with this matter, so please start building the safe house as soon as possible."
Alexander said, "We can have it completed in at most half a month."
After talking with Alexander, Steven signed the contract on the spot. He also paid a deposit of $140,000. As for the remaining balance, they would never have the chance to collect it in this lifetime.
Steven left IronShield Security Company. The housing issue was basically resolved. Next, Steven got back in his car and called an acquaintance, Caleb Flores. Caleb ran a hunting ground in Starlight City. He leased a few hundred acres in the West Mountain, stocked with various harmless small animals for people to hunt for fun. He had many legally obtained crossbows, compound bows, and air rifles.
Steven had visited a few times before, so he had Caleb's contact information. He called Caleb to help him buy a batch of weapons and offered to pay a premium. Caleb, being a businessman and occasionally needing favors from Steven, readily agreed.
"Mr. Rogers, why do you need so many weapons? These things are only for hunting or personal use. You can't use them to hurt people!" Caleb asked with a laugh, but there was a hint of caution in his tone. After all, the items were being sold through him. If Steven used these weapons to harm someone, Caleb could get into trouble. Of course, anyone who could run a hunting ground in Starlight City had some influence, but there was no need to take risks for an ordinary friend like Steven.
Steven laughed heartily and casually made up an excuse, "You're overthinking it! I have a few friends, and we're planning a hunting trip to an African wildlife park soon. So, I need to get some equipment!"
Caleb teased, "Oh, you know how to enjoy life, Mr. Rogers! But Africa has plenty of lions and hyenas, so be careful!"
"Of course. So, how soon can you have the items ready for me?"
"I have them in stock. You can come pick them up whenever you have time."
Steven didn't delay and immediately drove to the West Mountain Hunting Ground to buy the items. For him, time was extremely valuable, and he couldn't afford to waste a moment. He purchased five high-quality steel crossbows, three advanced compound bows, and 300 arrows and bolts each. Additionally, he bought two excellent hunting knives. These were made of Damascus steel, very tough and sharp, and would be hard to damage unless used for long-term chopping of hard objects. These would be perfect for self-defense, or cutting people.
All these items filled his trunk to the brim. Looking at this pile of equipment, Steven felt a strong sense of security. He then drove the load back home. Since everything was purchased through legal channels and he had a hunting license for recreational purposes, he wasn't worried about being questioned by the police.
By the time he got home, it was already dusk. Steven went out again and had a hearty meal at Olive Garden. Thinking that he would have to make his own pasta in the future, he immediately paid for an order of 10,000 servings of pasta sauce from Olive Garden. The Olive Garden staff were stunned, thinking Steven might be from a rival business causing trouble. However, Olive Garden's good service prevented any direct confrontation with Steven. Later, the store manager came over, asked Steven a few questions, and accepted the order. The condition was cash payment to prevent any sabotage from a rival business.
Steven was very straightforward and paid tens of thousands of dollars on the spot. His generous payment made the manager so happy that he couldn't stop smiling and even threw in an extra 500 servings for Steven.
