Chapter 499 Supernatural Ability Return
The moment Natasha whipped out the Frosthearts, Steven felt a chill run down his spine.
It was like he was trudging through a blizzard in the Arctic, suddenly finding himself in the crosshairs of a polar bear.
His suspicions deepened.
If Natasha's power was really [Supernatural Ability Return], like he thought, then her handing out Frosthearts to everyone now meant she was planning to take them all down soon—Kill them, and then snag their powers.
Steven couldn't help but remember what Elinor had said.
Back when Natasha tried to give Elinor Frostheart, Elinor had turned it down.
That meant the choice to use Frostheart was up to the person receiving it, not Natasha.
Megan, Leonard, and Sebastian all looked thrilled.
They'd all benefited from Frostheart, using it to create the first batch of Psychics and climb to power.
They were itching for more Frosthearts, especially now. They needed to boost their forces' combat power fast.
Plus, after thorough testing at the start, they had no doubts about Frostheart.
It didn't have any negative effects on the human body, nor did it have any mind-control abilities.
Megan couldn't wait to grab her share of Frostheart.
"Ms. Carter, thank you so much!"
Leonard and Sebastian quickly took their portions too.
Otha's face was blank, but he was very intrigued by this mysterious item. Taking it back for research seemed like a smart move.
He'd come to Starlight City with an extra mission to gauge Natasha's power level.
If she could really help people awaken abilities without any cost, she'd be a terrifying top-level LV5 Psychic!
Of course, the effect would depend on how many Frosthearts she could make.
But it was still incredibly valuable, likely making her a solid LV4 Psychic with a flawed ability, just like him.
Steven smiled, looking just as eager as everyone else as he pocketed Frostheart.
"This time, we owe you one. If you need anything in the future, just let us know!" Steven grinned at Natasha and Neil.
Neil's smile widened.
Natasha nodded and said, "In the future, we might become one. Coexisting and supporting each other is only natural."
But Steven stayed on guard.
With these two Frosthearts, he now had three in total.
If Natasha's [Supernatural Ability Return] theory was right, they could create three Psychics, but as long as the hosts didn't die, the abilities wouldn't go back to Natasha.
Plus, they shouldn't have any negative effects, which had been confirmed by the former four major base organizations through various means.
Their tech was better than Steven's, so he didn't need to double-check.
Steven thought to himself, 'Natasha's goal is to get the leaders or powerful Psychics of various forces to use Frostheart. But I can't use it, no way!'
However, in the future, he was thinking give it to Elinor, Cindy, and Aubrey, to create three new Psychics.
But their potential would set the ceiling for their supernatural abilities, which was still up in the air.
As for Megan and Sebastian, after mulling it over, Steven decided not to warn them.
He couldn't fully trust them yet. Giving them a heads-up might tip off his suspicions about Natasha too soon.
If they wanted to use it, let them go ahead.
As long as they didn't die, there didn't seem to be any other issues for now.
Everyone thanked Natasha for her generosity and then left the church.
The night went by without any drama.
Early the next morning, the folks from Emberwick Base packed up, ready to head back first.
Their mobile unit was pretty handy, so they could get back quickly.
Silverlake Base, on the other hand, had a lot of wounded and needed a few more days to recover.
Even though Sebastian's team had the fewest casualties, they had fought in close combat during the war, burning a lot of energy.
So they planned to rest up before leaving.
In the end, only Megan's team left Snowfall Cult's headquarters.
Steven and his crew naturally came to see them off.
After surviving life-and-death battles together, their relationships were tighter, with a sense of shared destiny.
"Don't forget what we agreed on when you get back." Steven walked up to Megan, smiling as he extended his hand.
Megan laughed and then boldly walked over and gave Steven a hug.
"Don't worry, I'll send it to you as soon as I get back! After all, I really hope to get your support!"
Megan had a well-proportioned figure and usually wore a tight combat suit.
But in this hug, Steven could feel her curves.
Steven hugged her back and patted her on the back. "Then it's a deal!"
As they were hugging, they suddenly heard a heated argument nearby.
Curious, they turned to look.
Who could be so inconsiderate right after the war?
Many people were drawn to the commotion.
They saw a young man and woman arguing.
The young man's face was flushed red, speaking excitedly with a high-pitched voice, like he hadn't hit puberty yet.
The young woman, however, remained calm and composed, reasoning with him.
These two were Delbert and his girlfriend Clio.
But judging by the vibe and her combat uniform from Emberwick Base, she was now his ex-girlfriend.
Not far behind her stood a tall and valiant Emberwick Base officer.
Clio looked calmly at Delbert. "Delbert, I've found a better place. I hope you understand. We're not right for each other anymore."
Delbert's eyes were filled with confusion and fear. In his current state, only Clio gave him hope to live.
But why had she suddenly changed her mind when everything seemed fine before?
Could it be... just because he was missing a part of his function?
Delbert cried out in pain, "Clio, you can't leave me! I need you now! Don't you remember how good we were? You said we would be together forever, didn't you? Didn't you?"
Seeing the devastated Delbert, a trace of reluctance flashed in Clio's eyes.
But she didn't soften at all. Since the apocalypse, she had survived by keeping a clear head.
