Chapter 77 I'll Kill Your Neighbor

Based on Henry's introduction, Steven got a bit of an understanding of those people.

That group of workers was employed under an engineering company called Rapids Group.

They were all informal workers hired by a contractor, so they followed the contractor for jobs.

However, they claimed to be Rapids Group employees to appear more respectable.

So now, their group called themselves the Rapids gang, and the leader was that skinny short man, Owen Russell.

"Steven, do you have any plans for them? Just let me know if you need my help," Henry said.

Steven gave a faint smile.

It was impossible for him to attack this so-called Rapids gang.

His biggest reliance was his house, the steel fortress.

Once he left the room, facing those nearly twenty people would be very dangerous, even if he had a gun.

So Steven replied, "Mr. Garcia, let's play it safe! I don't have any plans for revenge for now."

"The main issue is that it's just me, and even with you, we don't have a guaranteed chance of winning."

"Unless," His eyes flashed with a sharp light. "we can mobilize the neighbors in the building."

Henry understood what Steven meant.

"You mean, we should form a united front like Owen's group, right?"

"Yes, that's exactly what I mean," Steven uttered immediately.

Henry said, "Alright, I'll bring this up in the group chat. Let's see how many are willing to join."

Steven laughed. "Mr. Garcia, there's no need for that. If you actively invite them to join, they might think you have ulterior motives or are trying to gain some benefit."

Henry asked, "Then what should we do?"

Steven laughed. "We're not in a hurry. We have enough supplies at home; we just need to wait."

"The Rapids gang came once, and they'll definitely come again. After all, I killed so many of them; they will come back for revenge."

"By then, the neighbors in this building will naturally come to us for help."

Henry couldn't help but marvel, "Steven, you're really brilliant!"

The two reached an agreement and decided to temporarily ignore the Rapids gang.

In the homeowners group chat, the neighbors still wanted Steven and Henry to take the lead in attacking and clearing out the Rapids gang.

They were very skilled at manipulating moral the high ground.

They praised Steven and Henry, calling them good people (although Steven thought they were cursing him since good people don't last long in the apocalypse).

At the same time, they found various excuses, saying they had no food or strength to fight.

Or they used being elderly or women as an excuse to avoid getting involved.

Steven knew these shameless neighbors too well, so he simply ignored them.

Anyway, when disaster strikes them, they will definitely fear.

In the next two days, Steven began to gather intelligence from the outside world.

Of course, he wouldn't ask himself, as too many people coveted his supplies, and the information they provided could be false.

He asked Elinor and Henry to help gather information.

One was a doctor, and the other was a guard, both with wide connections.

Steven wanted to know who posed a threat to him in their Sunshine Community of 30 buildings.

This information wasn't hard to gather; who killed the most people and who had the most power was easy to find out.

Elinor enthusiastically took out a pen and paper and made a statistical table for Steven.

Steven glanced at it, which roughly described the number of people and weapons of the opposing forces.

After reading, he felt much more at ease.

Sunshine Community was a mid-to-high-end community, so there weren't many ruthless people.

According to the information gathered by Elinor and Henry, the main threats came from two forces.

One was the Rapids gang from the neighboring Building 26, formed around a small engineering team under the Rapids Group, with strong combat ability.

Their main weapons were shovels and steel bars, without firearms.

The bomb used against Steven last time was homemade by a worker who knew explosives, with limited power.

And that worker had been burned to death by Steven, so they couldn't make bombs anymore.

"But, no one knows if they have any left. We need to be cautious! I'll find a chance to send some people over to deplete their stock," Steven muttered to himself.

Besides the Rapids gang, another force caught his attention.

In Building 21, a group of young people formed a force calling themselves the Crazy Wolf Gang.

The name sounded a bit funny, but their combat ability was not weak.

According to Elinor's information, these people included students and some idle punks.

They were mostly around 20 years old, with about a dozen people in their group.

The two leaders were Samuel Hall and Aaron Baker.

Steven knew both of them.

They were well-known punks in Sunshine Community.

Both had graduated from college but stayed home without working. They were not exactly rich scions, but middle class.

Refusing to work, they hung around at home.

Over time, they got involved with some bad people in society.

In the past, they couldn't even compare to Andrew.

But their building didn't have someone like Steven, so their power gradually grew.

For Steven, only these two forces posed a certain threat.

Other buildings had only a dozen households left.

Many couldn't bear the horrors of the apocalypse, mentally collapsed, and chose suicide.

Or they killed each other in extreme scarcity of supplies, wiping themselves out.

Steven felt more confident.

He told Elinor, "Keep gathering information, make sure to clarify everything, and minimize the danger! Especially whether they have firearms, this is crucial."

Elinor nodded obediently, then picked up her phone to continue gathering information.

In the following days, Steven and Henry reached a consensus and stayed home without going out.

The Rapids gang hated Steven deeply due to their previous failure!

They had lost eight long-time brothers, and the rest were severely burned by the fire.

Two of them died that night due to severe injuries.

Such a tragic outcome was unprecedented for the Rapids gang!

They swore to unleash a bloodbath in Building 25 and kill Steven to avenge their brothers!

However, there was a twist.

Their most hated person was Steven, and their most feared person was also Steven.

After witnessing Steven's methods and realizing how difficult it was to attack his home, they temporarily dared not act against Steven.

So what could they do?

They decided to kill Steven's neighbors in the same building!

Owen thought, 'Steven, if I can't kill you, I can kill your neighbors!

When you see your neighbors die because of you, you'll surely feel guilty.

How will you face their accusations?

Killing your neighbors is the biggest revenge on you!'

Owen was quite good at self-comfort, knowing to kill the weakest first.

So, in the following days, he led a group of people back and ambushed several households.

After the killing, he wrote messages in blood in the hallway.

Owen: [Steven, if you don't come out, I'll kill all your neighbors!]
