Chapter 241 The Intruder

Since the ground was already blanketed in snow and the area around Emerald Estate was pretty open, Brittany and Zane figured that rushing in would tip Steven off.

So, they didn't head there right away. Instead, they scoped out the place with binoculars first.

From what Gavin and the others had said, Brittany and Zane got the sense that Steven might be a pretty powerful Psychic, so they were on their guard.

They waited until it was really late before making their move.

They'd already found out from Cox Village that Steven lived in Villa No. 101, and that there were a bunch of traps around it.

So, when they showed up at night, they were ready for anything.

Zane pulled out a military-grade monocle. Even with the snow, he could spot the traps buried underneath.

"Good thing we got the heads-up. If we'd just barged in, we could've been in trouble," Zane said, his voice low.

Brittany looked up at the fancy villa and couldn't help but sigh. "Living it up in a place like this during the apocalypse? I gotta admit, I'm a bit jealous!"

Zane shrugged. "What's there to be jealous of? It's freezing out here, and heating a place that big must take a ton of energy."

"Where's he getting all that fuel for heating? And what about food and clothes?" Zane wondered out loud.

Brittany just gave him a look and didn't say more.

Zane didn't know about the Walmart South Warehouse situation. He was just a soldier, following Brittany's lead.

"Take me over there," Brittany told Zane.

Zane crouched down, and Brittany nimbly hopped onto his shoulders.

With Brittany on his back, Zane stepped on a protruding stone in the snow and leaped towards the right wall, clearing over 16 feet!

He grabbed the eaves with one hand and swung towards the corner of the shelter.

They landed softly in the snow.

Even with both their weights, Zane's body sank into the snow, but he made sure not a single flake touched Brittany.

Dismantling the simple traps in the snow was a piece of cake for them. But they didn't want to make any noise, so they decided to sneak in quietly.

Brittany got down from Zane's shoulders and took a good look at the black villa in front of her.

She felt a sense of heaviness and solidity.

"No wonder this was the richest guy's place. It's flashy, but it's built like a bunker!" she said.

A smile crept onto Brittany's face. "Too bad for him, there's no such thing as an unbreakable fortress in my book."

Zane, his voice serious, asked, "Are you sure you don't want to try talking to him? Your ability isn't really for fighting, and sneaking in could be risky."

Brittany frowned and replied coldly, "Zane, don't forget, even without any Supernatural abilities, I'm still special forces!"

Zane didn't push it. "I'll wait outside. If anything goes wrong, shoot, and I'll find a way in!"

Brittany smiled confidently. "Relax, Steven has no idea there's a way to break in like this!"

With that, she walked towards the corner of the wall.

The thick wall, made of special alloy and able to withstand direct artillery fire, suddenly seemed like it was made of air.

Or rather, Brittany herself became like air, walking right through the wall.

In the blink of an eye, she was inside Steven's shelter, standing in the living room.

Brittany didn't know the layout of the place, but it was late, and she'd made sure the lights were off before coming in.

As soon as she stepped inside, she felt a wave of warmth.

Brittany was taken aback. 'It's even cozier here than at West Mountain Base!'

The luxurious decor and fancy furniture around her made her a bit envious.

Sure, this stuff was pretty much useless in the apocalypse and could be found all over the place.

But hauling it back to West Mountain Base was nearly impossible.

The underground base had limited space, and even as a special forces member, she only had a tiny room just over 100 square feet.

'I can tell he's got a ton of supplies. Whether it's food or energy, he's not lacking. Otherwise, he couldn't be living this comfortably!' Brittany thought, a smile creeping onto her face.

Just as she was about to explore further, she heard a cat meow.

Brittany froze.

Not knowing what Steven's abilities were, she didn't want to take any more chances.

This shelter was more important than the higher-ups at West Mountain Base had thought!

But Brittany wasn't ready to leave empty-handed.

She decided to leave something behind to give Steven a little shock.

Maybe then they could take over this place without a fight!

Brittany pulled a military knife from her thigh and placed it on the living room table.

With that done, she slipped back into the shadows, just as ghostly as before.

Brittany walked out of the wall, and Zane was still there, waiting to pick her up.

Seeing her come out so quickly, he asked, "Did you find anything?"

Brittany's eyes sparkled with excitement. "A lot! Let's head back, and I'll fill you in on the way!"

Zane was a bit taken aback. "Head back?"

He and Brittany had been through a lot together and had never faced a problem they couldn't handle.

Even when dealing with some of the old gang forces in Starlight City, they managed just fine.

But this time, Brittany wanted to go back. Was she planning to ask for backup from the base?

"Did you run into a tough opponent?" Zane asked.

Brittany quickly replied, "I'm not sure if there are any powerful defenses inside, but from what I saw, but that Steven, he's not someone to underestimate."

"I'm not built for fighting, so there's no point in taking risks. We should go back, report to the higher-ups, and send a bigger team. That's the safest bet!" she added.

Brittany's ability was perfect for gathering intel. She could blend into the environment, the cold didn't bother her, and she could slip through even the toughest fortresses, moving like a ghost without a trace.

But her Supernatural ability wasn't great for direct combat. That's why she needed Zane by her side.

Zane followed orders, letting Brittany hop onto his shoulders, and they quickly left Emerald Estate.

But just then, Steven suddenly woke up.
