Chapter 188 Earl Discovers the Secret
"I... I found it!" Earl sat in front of the computer, speaking excitedly.
He adjusted his glasses, his somewhat chubby body swaying from side to side.
Steven wasn't proficient with computers, so he sent his messages unencrypted, a rookie mistake that Earl, a seasoned bloodhound in the digital world, exploited with ease. It didn't take him long to crack the IP addresses, tracing the source of the message flood to two distinct locations.
Notably, one IP address was a veritable geyser of messages, spewing out hundreds in the past 48 hours.
The other had only been used to send a single message. Following this lead, it was easy to identify Steven.
"Steven, Walmart warehouse manager... Walmart warehouse!" A look of realization flashed in Earl's eyes, and he became even more excited.
"The Walmart warehouse theft! Goods worth billions of dollars were emptied overnight!" He went on talking to himself, "I originally thought it was a farce, but now it seems this man named Steven is very suspicious."
Nerds' imagination could be quite wild.
Earl stood up, his chubby body pacing back and forth in the room.
But after a few steps, he got tired and plopped his chubby butt back into the chair.
He started murmuring to himself. "Could it really be him who emptied the entire Walmart warehouse?"
"If supernatural abilities exist, then nothing is impossible."
"But to do something like this, it would have to be a space-related supernatural ability, like a vacuum cleaner, capable of holding a large amount of objects."
Earl felt like he had grasped something.
"During the fight that day, my attack suddenly disappeared in front of him. But later, he actually released my attack back at me."
"This isn't just a simple rebound attack; it seems like he can control the timing of the rebound at will."
"It's as if he stored my attack somewhere else and then released it."
Earl's eyes grew brighter.
"I get it! He must be a Space Psychic, and all the goods missing from the Walmart warehouse are likely in his possession!"
"In that case, it makes sense that he could own a rare luxury snowmobile in the South."
"Space abilities! He actually has the power to manipulate space! Damn, I'm so jealous!"
Earl's chubby face wobbled with excitement.
After the excitement, he sat back in the chair, somewhat disappointed.
"Compared to his abilities, my 'Blowing Snow' is clearly not on the same level. Could it be that he's the protagonist, and I'm... the villain?"
Earl thought of the countless games he had played before and suddenly felt a chill down his spine.
"Right, in games, aren't there always some mini-bosses? They seem tougher than regular monsters, but they're just there to give you experience."
"My ability is completely countered by his; I can't beat him at all!"
Nerds' imagination could be quite wild.
But nerds could also be very smart.
Earl realized the gap in strength between himself and Steven, and fear crept into his heart.
"I must never go against him in the future. It would be best to become friends with him."
"Right, not just me, I need to warn everyone in the village to stay away from him!"
Thinking of the many reckless people in his village, Earl became even more frightened.
Had Steven pursued Earl that day, Earl would certainly have met his end because his energy was utterly drained.
Earl was lucky to use snow to block Steven's view and avoid being killed.
Thinking of this, Earl became even more scared, knowing that luck wouldn't always be on his side.
To prevent the villagers from doing something foolish, Earl immediately left his house and went to find Jared, the village chief, and also the patriarch of the Cox family.
When Jared saw Earl coming, he greeted him with a warm smile.
"Earl, it's rare to see you out! If it weren't for your mom making you go for walks, you probably wouldn't even recognize the roads."
Earl, panting, said to Jared, "Grandpa Jared Cox, something big has happened! I must tell you."
Jared stroked his beard and smiled. "What big thing?"
In the past, Earl's words would have been completely unimportant to him.
A shut-in who only stayed at home, living off rental income, couldn't earn the villagers' respect.
But now, Earl had supernatural abilities and was the strongest in Cox Village, so Jared had to show him some respect.
Earl immediately told Jared everything he had discovered. "Grandpa, this Steven is very powerful. His ability counters mine, so we must avoid any conflict with him!"
He went on, "Cox Village and Emerald Estate are only separated by a river. You should tell everyone in the village to stay away from that place. It's best to fish somewhere else!"
Earl kindly reminded Jared, but Jared was drawn to another piece of information.
He stared at Earl, his eyes gleaming with a shrewd and cunning light.
"Are you saying that the infamous Walmart warehouse theft was actually his doing? And the goods worth billions of dollars are in his possession?" he asked.
Earl, not very cunning and in a hurry, nodded and said, "Based on my analysis, this is the most likely outcome! Unless he's a Space Psychic, he couldn't have emptied a giant warehouse in such a short time!"
With Earl's confirmation, the light in Jared's eyes grew even brighter.
He stroked his beard and muttered to himself, "If we could get those goods for Cox Village, how many years would it take to use them all up?"
Hearing this, Earl sensed something was wrong.
He was shocked. "Grandfather, please don't go against him!"
Jared glanced at him, somewhat displeased, and said, "Earl, you have many good qualities, but you are far too timid for your own good. Cox Village alone boasts hundreds of households. Factor in the entirety of Cox Town, and we have a veritable smorgasbord of thousands!"
"Do you really think so many of us can't handle one person?" he questioned with confidence.
Earl didn't know how to argue for a moment. "But... but I can feel that he's very dangerous!"
Jared sneered, "You've been scared out of your wits by him! When I was young, villages around here fought, and people's heads got bashed in. How many times did I not drag back a few dead bodies?"
"Why did we fight back then? Sometimes for water, sometimes for territory. Sometimes just because of a quarrel between two villages!" He squinted his eyes, seemingly reminiscing about the old days.
"Now, for the survival of Cox Village, we're not afraid to risk our lives!" He declared, his voice echoing with determination.
