Chapter 460 Showdown
When Otha started singing Steven's praises, the rest of the investigation team couldn't help but be a bit taken aback.
Otha's mention of a "promising talent" hinted that Steven might have what it takes to join their Psychic squad.
Megan, Leonard, Sebastian, and Neil were all under the microscope.
But Silvercrest District had some seriously tough recruitment standards. You needed abilities, loyalty, and smarts.
Just having a killer Supernatural ability wasn't enough to get in.
That didn't mean every team member was stronger than Megan and the others. They were already part of Silvercrest District, well-known and loyal.
Bringing in outsiders meant the bar was set higher.
"Is he really that good? But we've never seen him in action. How do you know?" Rolf, the explosives expert, leaned in, curious.
"First, it's my gut feeling. Second, it's based on experience."
"Even though their team is small, being one of the top five forces in Starlight City means they're strong on the Psychic front!"
"As the team leader, Steven's gotta be the strongest."
"Plus, they were the ones who sorted out the zombie mess around the base. That's a solid sign!"
Otha had a playful grin. Finding Steven added a bit of excitement to his mission.
For someone at his level, improvement was hard to come by. Spotting new talent had become one of his joys.
Theron laughed heartily, "I get it!"
He lowered his head, his burly frame like a bear, with a deep gaze. "Captain, your foresight is spot on."
The mood in the carriage suddenly got a bit heavy, like everyone remembered something unpleasant.
A few seconds later, Lanny broke the silence with a smile. "Interesting, what you said makes me wanna spar with him!"
Otha raised an eyebrow. "Lanny, don't be too cocky! From what I know, his ability counters yours."
Lanny's face showed a hint of defiance. "Counter me? That makes it even more interesting! Captain, what exactly is his ability?"
Otha said, "It's a super rare spatial Supernatural ability, even within the Trait system."
The carriage erupted in exclamations!
"Spatial Supernatural ability!" Theron widened his eyes and murmured, "Even in Silvercrest District, there are very few with spatial Supernatural abilities. This ability has huge strategic value!"
Spatial Supernatural abilities might not be the strongest in combat, but they were definitely the most coveted by any team.
Even if the spatial Supernatural ability only had storage capabilities, it could seriously boost the team's operations.
"No wonder you want him on our team!" Theron laughed.
Otha said, "It's just a thought. We can test his strength. Whether he wants to leave Starlight City for Silvercrest District is up to him."
Finding Steven was a nice bonus, but his main goal this time was to sort out the zombie crisis.
Meanwhile, in the car ahead.
Steven used autopilot to head towards the shelter.
He was also chatting with Lily and the others about the pros and cons of the Silvercrest District visitors.
"These folks are way stronger, on a whole different level from the forces we've faced before!"
"We need to be careful and respectful towards them, keeping a certain level of reverence."
Otha's Annihilation had totally blown Steven away.
It also made Steven realize just how powerful the legendary rulers of the South, Silvercrest District, really were.
Psychics of Otha's caliber were definitely not rare.
Right now, he didn't mind getting on the good side of the Silvercrest District folks. Steven could sense that Otha had a bit of a soft spot for him.
He wasn't sure why, but it was definitely a good thing.
A few hours later, Steven brought Otha and the crew to his shelter.
When they saw the massive luxury villa, they were blown away.
"I thought his shelter would be underground. Didn't expect a big villa!" Daron shook his head, amazed. "This is too fancy! Even in Silvercrest District, we don't have shelters this swanky, right?"
Eris chimed in, "Remember, this used to be the home of the richest guy in The Astralium Kingdom!"
"No wonder it's so luxurious."
They got out of the car, checking out the shelter's exterior, totally impressed.
Steven walked over, smiling, and invited them inside.
As they entered, Elinor and others were there to greet them.
They'd heard the news and knew guests from Silvercrest District were coming.
Curious, they quickly sized up Steven's guests.
"Steven, are these the folks from Silvercrest District? They really look like a proper army!"
Steven didn't just bring anyone to his shelter.
Even if they were from Silvercrest District, they needed a certain level of status for Steven to let them in.
Steven said, "They're here to help Starlight City with the zombie problem. Go get some food and drinks ready."
Then he turned to Otha and the others. "By the way, what would you like to drink? Our place is pretty simple, just some alcohol, coffee, and soft drinks. Hope that's okay."
Hearing this, even Otha's eyelids twitched, and the others had mixed expressions. Was this Steven bragging?
But they were pros and didn't show too much surprise at the comfy villa.
Otha said calmly, "Just some water will do."
They sat down on the living room sofa.
Not wanting to seem out of place, they discreetly took in the luxurious furniture and cozy environment—stuff they didn't even have in Blizzard City.
Steven and Lily sat nearby to keep them company.
Otha suddenly said to Steven, "Can we talk privately?"
Steven nodded and smiled, "Of course, follow me!"
So he asked the others to entertain Lanny and the rest, while he and Otha went to a small meeting room next door.
This room was in the southeast corner of the shelter, with a great view and thick bulletproof glass walls.
It was a perfect spot for a chat.
Steven brought two glasses of water, placing one in front of Otha and one in front of himself.
Otha entered, looked at the snowy scene outside with his hands behind his back, then sat down on the sofa opposite Steven.
"Now that it's just us, can you tell me exactly how you dealt with those zombies?"
Steven started to speak, planning to embellish his previous story.
Otha stared at him and said slowly, "The method you mentioned before was a bit reserved. You can fool them, but not me. We know more than you think."
Steven paused, then laughed wryly.
Yeah, the folks from Silvercrest District weren't easy to fool. If he kept being vague, it might leave a bad impression on Otha.
And that was the last thing he wanted.
