Chapter 184 Lines of Defense

Elinor and Nora both realized that danger might really be approaching.

Their heightened sense of caution made them especially focused on their studies, not daring to be negligent.

Steven took out a wooden board and then grabbed a hammer. "Scattering nails on the ground won't hurt anyone! So, we need to nail them to the board. Once buried in the snow, they can pierce right through the soles of people's feet!"

"But just using these steel nails isn't enough; they're too smooth. People can pull them out with some effort." As Steven spoke, he took out a box of long screws.

"You need to use these together with the steel nails. The steel nails have better penetration, while the screws increase the damage. Get it?"

The two women sat nearby, intently memorizing.

Seeing those sharp long steel nails and the spirals on the screws, they couldn't help but think about how much flesh would be torn out if they were pulled from the soles of their feet.

Nora thought about this, and her feet in black stockings immediately curled up, as if she could already feel the excruciating pain.

Elinor, however, listened very seriously. As a doctor, she found this kind of situation still acceptable.

Steven picked up a wooden board and made a simple trap in a few minutes.

"We need to make at least 1,000 of these nail traps! We'll add more later if that's not enough. Spread them all around the 330 feet perimeter of the villa!" After saying this, he took out a large animal trap.

The sharp, jagged edges were enough to make anyone's scalp tingle.

He explained, "You've probably seen these on TV. If a wolf cub gets caught, its leg might be snapped right off. If a person gets caught, it will pierce through the flesh and injure the bone! In other words, it can completely disable a person."

"Placing it requires some skill. If you put it on the outer perimeter, people might probe it out with a stick. Therefore, it needs to be placed behind the nail board traps," he carefully told them. "Alright, you just need to set up these two types of traps. I'll handle the rest!"

Elinor and Nora nodded.

Following Steven's instructions, the two women picked up hammers and started mass-producing the nail board traps.

Steven didn't idle either. He stood by the window, looking at the terrain outside.

There were two entrances leading to Villa 101, which were the only ways to get there.

Steven remembered that he had found two explosive mines in the weapons depot at the Starlight City military camp. They could be buried in the middle of these two paths.

But he had to be careful to avoid them himself in the future, as these things were powerful enough to destroy tanks and armored vehicles.

If used against people, the bodies would be blown to pieces.

'These traps work best the first time around. However, if someone uses tools to dismantle the nail boards, I'll need to devise a counterstrategy.'

After some thought, Steven had a plan in mind.

The three of them worked for most of the day to make the 1,000 nail boards Steven had requested.

Nora winced, her raw and blistered hands throbbing with each movement. But not a single complaint escaped her lips. She knew she wasn't as naturally skilled as Elinor, whose nimble doctor's hands were now proving invaluable in tending to their defenses.

Complaining about menial tasks wouldn't earn her Steven's favor; it would only highlight her limitations.

To secure her place by his side, to earn his protection in this unforgiving world, she needed to be useful and indispensable.

Steven noticed this, and, although he didn't say anything, his approval of Nora increased.

"Alright, let's go!" he said.

The three of them put on their winter gear and went outside to start setting up.

Being extremely careful, he led them to install traps in each area.

He personally inspected the traps they set. If he found anything inappropriate, he would ask them to make corrections.

"Don't place the nail boards too loosely! Ideally, someone steps on it, falls, and gets hit by another nail board. If the nail board pierces someone's chest, face, or neck, it can kill them instantly!"

He added, "Bury the nail board just enough to cover it. The ongoing snowfall will erase any trap traces."

Although it was Steven's first time setting up such traps, his experience in life-and-death struggles in the Hermes District had given him plenty of knowledge on how to quickly and effectively kill enemies.

Elinor and Nora obediently followed Steven's instructions, though they were a bit nervous, afraid of accidentally stepping on the traps themselves.

Steven kept an eye on them, ensuring their safety.

Once the animal traps and nail boards were set, Steven carefully avoided the traps and walked to the middle of the two paths.

He took out an entrenching tool and dug two pits over 3 feet deep in the snow, then carefully placed the explosive mines inside.

For safety, he was fully equipped with protective gear while setting the traps.

He also activated a Dimension Door in front of him.

If an explosion occurred, the Dimension Door could absorb most of the shrapnel and shockwave.

Steven carefully placed the mines, filled the pits with snow, and smoothed the surface with the entrenching tool.

A bit more snow would completely erase any traces.

These trigger mines had the advantage of being electronically detonated rather than needing someone to step on them.

So, even though they were buried about 5 feet deep in the snow, Steven could manually detonate them if he sensed someone approaching.

This way, even if someone came to scout, the mines wouldn't go off.

Steven set these two mines specifically to deal with large groups of enemies or powerful Psychics.

Both mines were set up this way.

'Next, we need devices to prevent the traps from being cleared.'

The nail boards were buried in the snow, and if someone used a fork or similar tool to clear the snow, they could remove both the nail boards and the animal traps.

So, Steven came up with an excellent solution.

He used steel wires tied to the pins of grenades, then buried them deep in the snow.

This way, whether someone kicked the wire or triggered it with a tool, it would cause an explosion.

Steven meticulously positioned these deadly traps around the outer perimeter, ensuring no angle of approach went unguarded.

This would make the enemy hesitant to clear the snow on a large scale.

Steven carefully set up the traps, placing at least 30 grenade traps around the house.

Now, anyone trying to approach his house would have to sacrifice at least a dozen lives, maybe even dozens of lives!

"That should be enough." Steven exhaled a breath of white smoke and muttered to himself.

If they encountered professional armed forces, the traps might be less effective.

But as long as the enemies weren't well-trained soldiers, they'd have to pay with their lives to get close to the villa!

And besides these, Steven had two more lines of defense.

He turned to look at the massive, fortress-like shelter.

It was a 33-foot-long passage, with hypnotic gas, tear gas, and high-temperature jets reaching over a thousand degrees Fahrenheit that could melt steel!

As for the final line of defense, it was Steven himself.
