Chapter 495 Doubts in the Heart

After Megan took off, Leonard swooped in.

He was in his forties, smooth-talking and polished.

The moment he spotted Steven, he started showering him with praise.

"Hey Steven, ever thought about hitting the open sea? If you've got the time, I can take you overseas. There's a whole world out there waiting!" Leonard offered with a warm smile.

Steven imagined the vast ocean and felt a twinge of excitement.

But then he remembered the dangerous creatures lurking beneath the waves and quickly shook his head. "Honestly, I'd rather you just bring me some fish."

Leonard burst out laughing, "Sure thing! Next time we come back from the sea, I'll bring you the freshest frozen fish!"

Live fish were out of the question; only deep-sea fish could survive the depths, and they'd die once caught.

Steven asked, "With so many people gone, is it even safe to go out to sea?"

Leonard's smile faded a bit.

He looked down and sighed, "Most of our fighters are dead, but I've still got some crew on the ship. We can still sail!"

Leonard echoed Megan's sentiment.

After this battle, Starlight City was a wreck, and no one knew how many survivors were left.

This once bustling city of over twenty million people was now eerily silent.

Everyone was exhausted and didn't want to fight anymore.

Plus, with so few people left, there was no need to fight over resources.

Soon after, Neil and Sebastian showed up.

Neil looked deeply sorrowful.

In this battle, their Snowfall Cult took the heaviest losses, not just the fighters, but their followers too.

Out of over five thousand people, more than four thousand were dead. The remaining survivors, including the church leaders and ordinary followers, were less than eight hundred.

The other factions felt pretty bad for Snowfall Cult.

Sebastian, leaning on his friendship with Steven, threw an arm around Steven's shoulder.

"Steven, from now on, your group is the strongest in Starlight City! You gotta look out for me," Sebastian said with a grin.

Actually, among the five major forces, his family had the second-highest casualty rate after Steven's team.

His ability was pretty unique; he could empower a lot of people, turning regular soldiers into super soldiers.

As a result, only about half of his Sebastian Legion was lost, the remaining members were still full of energy.

Steven gave him a side-eye. "Don't get too comfortable. The zombie crisis in Starlight City isn't over yet!"

"Really? The Zombie Kings  are all dead, the rest of the zombies are no big deal," Sebastian said cheerfully.

"I wouldn't be so sure." Steven sneered, "No one knows if this battle attracted all the Zombie Kings."

Sebastian was a bit taken aback.

Then he shot back, "If there are still Zombie Kings out there, why haven't they attacked us?"

"Now that we're weak, it should be the perfect time for them to strike. Steven, you're overthinking it."

Steven frowned slightly.

He couldn't be sure if his hunch was right.

He always had a knack for seeing the worst in things.

Pessimists might struggle to find happiness, but they're rarely wrong.

"Better safe than sorry. We should stay cautious."

"Got it." Sebastian nodded, but who knew if he really meant it.

After this battle, the vibe among the major forces in Starlight City got a lot friendlier.

Funny how a zombie attack can bring people together.

Like some president once said, when humanity faced a threat from non-human creatures, all our old conflicts might just fade away.

But Steven couldn't shake this bad feeling.

He glanced at the survivors from Snowfall Cult.

The sight of their fallen comrades was heartbreaking.

Steven quietly called Elinor over and asked her to get in the car with him; he had something important to discuss.

Seeing Steven's serious face, Elinor blushed a bit.

They'd been so busy with the zombie horde that some things had been put on hold.

Now that things had calmed down, it was only natural to take care of some personal matters.

She nodded gently, fixed her hair, and got into the car first.

Steven reminded Earl and the others to keep watch. "Don't let anyone near, no matter who it is. Got it?"

Lily's cold face showed a flicker of something strange, and she turned away with a huff.

Earl, on the other hand, was all too eager. "Got it! I'll make sure no one bothers you."

Steven nodded, then got into the car, quickly closed the door, and pulled the curtains.

The car was soundproof, so no one outside could hear what was going on inside.

Lily, Henry, and Earl stayed nearby.

Lily looked a bit uncomfortable.

She never thought she'd be standing guard for Steven for something like this.

Henry, however, was more laid-back. He chuckled, "Steven's young, after all! He's got strong desires."

He sighed softly. Too bad Emilia wasn't here.

When Steven got in the car, he saw Elinor had already taken off her coat and was sitting on the bed, legs crossed.

Her eyes were full of allure as she looked at him.

Steven, however, sat down beside her.

"Elinor, I need to ask you something important."

Elinor looked at Steven in surprise, realizing she had misunderstood when she saw his serious expression.

She blushed slightly. "What is it?"

Steven said seriously, "It's about the time I asked you to keep an eye on Natasha."

Steven squinted, thinking back to the night of the zombie horde attack.

Everyone was on edge that night, nerves stretched thin, with no time to think about anything else.

But now, looking back, a lot of things didn't add up—like the ice ability Natasha showed.

From what Steven knew, Natasha, as the leader of Snowfall Cult, had two abilities.

One was Blessing. It let her create Frostheart from her body, helping others awaken or enhance their abilities.

The other was Healing Touch that could heal physical injuries.

Having two abilities wasn't unheard of, and both of hers were supportive.

But what about the ice ability she showed that night?

It was completely different from her Blessing and Healing Touch.
