Chapter 454 Hiding Capability

Otha's voice was calm and icy.

But it wasn't as cold as the hearts of the leaders of the five factions right now.

'So, it's really come to this?' Steven couldn't help but swallow, his eyes dead serious.

He had thought about this scenario.

If the zombie crisis in Starlight City got too bad and started spreading to nearby cities, then for Silvercrest District, cutting their losses would be the smartest move.

It's like when you get an abscess, and if meds can't fix it, you gotta go for surgery.

In that sense, Otha and his team were basically the meds.

But if the meds didn't work, then the surgery would be...

Steven's heart pounded hard.

If that happened, Starlight City would be wiped off the map!

He definitely didn't want to see that happen!

Steven got it, and so did everyone else. For a moment, the room was dead silent.

Even the hot-headed Megan couldn't argue.

Silvercrest District could crush them with a snap of their fingers.

Otha was pleased with their reaction.

He said coldly, "From now on, all armed forces in Starlight City must follow our orders without question!"

Megan, Leonard, and Sebastian had mixed feelings, but they knew they couldn't challenge Silvercrest District right now.

But then, Steven spoke up slowly, "I'm willing to support your actions."

"But like you said, the investigation team came because the local forces couldn't handle the zombie and rat crisis. So you had to step in and take charge."

"But what if we can solve the problems on our own?"

Steven had a playful grin on his face.

As soon as he said that, everyone in the room stared at him.

"Steven, what do you mean by that? Don't tell me you think your small group can handle all those zombies and rats!" Megan sneered, her face full of disbelief.

Leonard leaned back in his chair and said sarcastically, "Steven, you've got guts, but this is serious. Don't let your personal desires mess things up for everyone."

Even Sebastian chimed in, "Didn't you say you're struggling right now? Don't push it, just listen to them!"

Steven's grin got wider, and he said lazily, "Do you think I'm joking?"

"Sorry to disappoint you. Actually, the zombie and mutant rat problems around our shelter are already taken care of!"

Everyone's faces showed pure shock.

Steven spoke with such confidence, it didn't seem like a joke.

But if Steven was telling the truth, then while they were all fighting for their lives against zombies and rats, Steven was just chilling?

The leaders of the major factions looked like they'd just eaten something nasty.

"I don't believe it! How did your small group manage that?" Megan slammed the table in anger, glaring at Steven with gritted teeth.

She desperately wanted to hear Steven admit it was just a joke.

After all, her base had taken a huge hit! Why should Steven get to live comfortably?

Otha also looked at Steven with curiosity.

Steven had a calm, laid-back smile and said casually, "What I said is true. If you don't believe me, go check it out yourself!"

Otha asked, "How did you do it? I'm really curious."

Everyone stared at Steven.

Even though they were pissed, they desperately needed a way to deal with the zombie and rat problems.

If Steven had a solution, that would be perfect.

Steven's smile faded, and he clasped his hands on the table.

He said seriously, "Here's the deal. Zombies go where the people are, so they gather in crowded places."

"And in Starlight City, where are the most people? Obviously, where you all are."

"My place has the fewest people, less than ten in total. Plus, it's out in the sticks, so it doesn't attract many zombies."

Steven frowned as he continued, "But even so, the fights were brutal."

"After a while, I figured out they're led by a Zombie King. It is smart and can create new zombies."

"So, the only way to wipe out a zombie nest is to kill the Zombie King."

"And the giant rats have a symbiotic relationship with the zombies. Once the zombie horde is gone, the rats will naturally disperse."

"So, we took a risk and went into the underground tunnels. With all the weapons we got from West Mountain Base and days of hard fighting, we finally killed the Zombie King and ended the zombie crisis in that area."

Steven's story was a mix of truth and lies.

Most of it was true, but he left out the real method he used to deal with the zombie horde.

After all, in the entire Starlight City, only he had the massive extradimensional space that could bring in large amounts of seawater from the Gulf of Mexico to freeze the subway tunnels.

If he revealed his method, the other factions, including the Silvercrest District envoy Otha, would pressure him to help solve their zombie problems.

Not to mention whether it would work, Steven had no intention of doing so at the moment.

He didn't believe that flooding the subway with seawater could completely solve the zombie problem.

At least the powerful Bronze Elite Zombies were unlikely to be drowned, let alone the more mysterious and terrifying Zombie King lurking in the shadows.

Steven used his method to drive them away, and they might have just moved to other territories.

If he flooded the subway lines on a large scale, not to mention how vast the subway network in Starlight City was, even if Steven worked day and night to fill the underground tunnels, could they handle it if all the hidden zombies came out?

It was better for Steven and his little group to live comfortably and let the others fight the zombies for a while.

After hearing Steven's explanation, everyone felt both envious and jealous.

Indeed, West Mountain District and Eternal River District were relatively remote.

Especially Steven's shelter, which was close to the countryside.

Such places naturally didn't attract large numbers of zombies, and fewer train lines passed through.

But they couldn't replicate this inherent advantage.

Otha looked at Steven with a peculiar expression.

He thought to himself, 'I didn't expect this Steven, who seemed to have the smallest faction, to be the first to solve the zombie problem. Truly, he was hiding his true capabilities!'
