Chapter 236 Sister

"Nice work!" Steven grinned.

Aubrey, with her hands clasped behind her back, shyly said, "Give it a try first. I made it to fit your sniper rifle, but if it doesn't feel right, I can tweak it."

Steven nodded. "You're awesome!"

Aubrey's face lit up with excitement at Steven's praise.

"Mr. Rogers, if you need anything else, just let me know. I'll do my best!" Aubrey offered.

Steven smiled, "That's exactly why I'm here."

He put his arm around Aubrey's shoulder and led her to a nearby chair.

With Steven's warm hand on her shoulder, Aubrey's heart started racing.

Despite always keeping a neutral front, she felt something stirring inside her.

"Aubrey, can you make grenades, landmines, and explosives?" Steven asked.

Aubrey turned to Steven, eyes wide in disbelief.

Steven blinked and smiled, "Is it that hard?"

"Are you kidding?" Aubrey stood up abruptly, a bit annoyed. "Mr. Rogers, you're underestimating me! I thought you were gonna ask for something tough. What you mentioned is easier than making a new energy battery!"

She pouted, clearly displeased. "You're totally underestimating me."

Steven was speechless.

For a genius like her, were those things really that simple?

Seeing Steven's reaction, Aubrey got what he was thinking.

She explained, "The stuff you mentioned isn't that useful in modern warfare. Maybe a hundred years ago, those weapons were effective. As for gunpowder, even a middle schooler could make it with the right materials."

Steven laughed, "Times have changed. Since the extreme cold era began, planes and aircraft carriers are practically junk. Now, wars are between people, and the scale is smaller. In this case, landmines and explosives are useful."

Then Steven shared what Cindy had found out. "Our shelter's been targeted. We don't know who they are yet, but it's likely a well-armed group. To keep us safe, I need to beef up security and reinforce the traps around here. Got it?"

Aubrey's expression turned serious. "Got it! I'm sorry, Mr. Rogers, I didn't know about this."

It was normal for Aubrey not to understand, as she had never experienced a war between people.

Steven smiled, "It's okay, just do your job well. Don't worry about anything else; I've got this!"

"I'll protect you." Steven placed his hands on Aubrey's shoulders, his eyes full of sincere affection.

Aubrey, inexperienced in such matters, was moved to tears. "Mr. Rogers, you're so good to me, I... I don't even know how to repay you!" Her tears flowed freely.

Steven reached out to wipe the tears from her eyes and said softly, "You know, the first time I saw you, I felt this special connection. You remind me so much of my sister. When I see you, I just want to protect you."

Aubrey sniffled, her big, innocent eyes blinking up at him.

"Really?" she asked.

"Of course. Have I ever lied to you?" Steven replied with a gentle smile.

Aubrey beamed with happiness.

In this apocalyptic world, having such a kind man look after her like a sister felt like a blessing.

But for some reason, a tiny part of her felt a bit dissatisfied.

'Sister?'

'Just a sister?'

Before she could dwell on it, Steven's hand was already caressing her flushed face.

Her face grew even hotter, her head almost overheating.

"Listen, you don't need to worry about anything; I've got you. As long as I'm here, nothing will happen to you," Steven promised.

Aubrey's mind was a blur, her eyes dreamy.

It was the first time a man had treated her so tenderly.

"Okay." She could only nod, completely agreeing with Steven's words.

Steven smiled, "Alright, get back to your work! Take care of yourself, don't overdo it."

With that, Steven left the workshop, leaving Aubrey in a daze.

Once outside, Steven took a deep breath, feeling like he had once again stirred the heart of an innocent girl.

But for someone as talented as Aubrey, he needed to keep her close.

He needed her to be fully on his side.

If necessary, Steven wouldn't hesitate to use his charm.

After all, dangerous things like weapons had to be in the hands of his own people.

Steven thought for a moment and pulled out his phone to send a message to Henry and Earl.

He told them about the unknown force nearby and urged them to be cautious.

Steven: [We've detected an unknown force close to us. Everyone needs to be careful and not trust anyone easily right now.]

Steven: [With the snow disaster, official organizations can't manage things effectively. So, be extremely cautious of anyone or any group claiming to be official.]

Steven: [And remember, never, ever, reveal our Supernatural abilities. This is crucial, understand?]

Henry and Earl read the message and were immediately on high alert.

They quickly agreed to Steven's request and promised to be more vigilant.

That was all Steven could do for now. After all, he wouldn't leave the shelter unless absolutely necessary.

With this fortress-like shelter, even if the enemy was a hundred times stronger, he felt confident he could handle them.

The mark on the map seared itself into Steven's mind – Earl was in the most perilous situation.

The signal source spying on them had to pass through Cox Town on the way to Emerald Estate.

Steven frowned slightly and sent another message to Earl: [If you encounter danger and can't handle it, come to me.]

An Ice and Snow Psychic was too valuable; Steven couldn't afford to let anything happen to him.
