Chapter 259 The Scheme

The gunshot echoed, and Yosef stared at the unyielding glass, a silence settling over him.

A few seconds later, he slammed the wall next to him, hard.

Yosef yelled, "Back in the day, this gun would blow a bunker to bits! What kind of shelter is this? No weak points at all!"

He knew the glass wouldn't break with one shot, but seeing it in person made him curse out loud.

Shawn took a deep breath. "This shelter's defense is probably tougher than our base!"

"We can't break it with what we've got. We need to report this to our superiors," Shawn added.

The rescue team soldiers felt completely hopeless in front of the shelter.

They swore this was the most impressive and baffling defense they'd ever seen, making all their tactical training and sharpshooting skills useless.

"Retreat!" Shawn ordered, and the group withdrew in an orderly fashion from behind their cover.

Yosef handed his heavy sniper rifle to a soldier and got ready to retreat.

Little did they know, Steven was waiting for them to show up.

"Dimension Door, activate! Aurora, open the window," Steven commanded. The intelligent system slowly opened the window, revealing a gap.

The Dimension Door was set up outside the gap, looking vulnerable but actually impenetrable.

The Dimension Door was one-way, meaning any attack from the outside would be absorbed, but attacks from the inside would go through.

The retreating team noticed the window opening.

"Captain Cooper, the window on the second floor is open!" Two soldiers reported, raising their guns and firing without hesitation!

As elite soldiers, their aim was spot on. They fired three shots at Steven's head with single-handed precision!

But their bullets vanished right in front of Steven.

As they fired, Steven also pulled the trigger. He aimed at the soldier carrying the iron box.

Steven really liked that heavy sniper rifle; even in the military, it wasn't something just anyone could get.

Compared to the sniper rifle in Steven's hand, its power was way greater.

And in Steven's hands, its power would be astonishing.

So, Steven planned to keep it.

The soldier's head exploded with a bloody hole, and even the helmet couldn't stop the sniper shot.

Shawn noticed Steven opening the window and saw Steven's handsome face through it, looking joyful. "Perfect timing, you're asking for it! Fire at will!" Shawn shouted.

Ignoring the fallen soldier, Shawn immediately raised his gun and aimed at Steven. Over twenty soldiers raised their guns in unison, and a barrage of bullets rained down on Steven!

Steven fired calmly.

He shot at a steady pace, firing one shot and then stabilizing for the next. Yet each shot was a precise headshot!

The soldiers were well-equipped, and their helmets were bulletproof, but Steven was using a sniper rifle, and the bullets were enhanced with the Precision shooting Supernatural ability, allowing them to penetrate their advanced gear!

In a matter of moments, six soldiers fell to Steven's shots.

"Something's wrong! Why can't we kill him?" Finally, a soldier noticed something was amiss.

After Steven opened the window, he was fully exposed to their firepower.

He had no defenses and wasn't even wearing proper gear.

But no matter how they shot, Steven remained unscathed, not even his clothes were damaged!

Shawn's pupils contracted sharply as he finally understood what was happening.

"He's a Psychic!" Shawn exclaimed.

Yosef's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at him. "Does that mean he can be immune to our attacks?"

Psychics were inherently incomprehensible to ordinary people.

And since each person's mutation was different, there was no reference for others.

The unknown nature of Steven's abilities brought them immense fear.

"Retreat, and fast!! This man is way outta our league!"

Shawn loudly ordered the soldiers to retreat.

They thought this enemy was too terrifying; only a captain-level figure from the special forces might be able to defeat him!

Moreover, with such a formidable fortification, even a captain-level figure might rival.

They could only take a beating passively, with no way to fight back. How could they win?

Shawn and the others were furious and wanted to curse Steven.

"This is too much!" Shawn shouted.

An elite team fighting a battle that embarrassing? They've gotta be seething.

Some soldiers wanted to take the bodies of their fallen comrades with them.

However, a moment's hesitation would be a death sentence!

"Forget about the dead for now, take cover, now!" Shawn shouted anxiously.

Steven noticed Shawn and Yosef, who seemed to be the leaders.

He turned his gun towards them and fired a shot at Shawn's head.

But at that moment, a very familiar scene to Steven occurred again.

Shawn's figure suddenly blurred, leaving afterimages in the air, narrowly dodging the bullet.

'Another artificially created Psychic? And their Supernatural abilities are so similar!' Steven wondered. Steven aimed his gun at Yosef and noticed that his reaction was identical to Shawn's.

'Their Supernatural abilities are almost the same. Could it be that Psychics can really be created through drugs? Or maybe their abilities are copied from someone else?' he thought.

Steven couldn't help but marvel at the miracles of biology.

He still had to kill those who needed to be killed.

Not everyone had Supernatural abilities like the two of them.

However, this time, Steven suddenly changed his mind.

He saw that the soldiers had already abandoned the bodies of their fallen comrades and were hiding behind walls.

There were plenty of luxurious villas around the shelter, enough to provide them with cover.

From Steven's perspective, his attack range couldn't cover the entire battlefield.

But Steven didn't want them to escape so easily.

He wanted to kill more intruders.

A cold smile appeared on Steven's lips.

He aimed at a soldier who hadn't managed to take cover.

This time, he didn't aim for the head but for the right leg!

With a gunshot, the soldier's right leg exploded in a mist of blood, the power of the sniper rifle severing his leg, leaving it a bloody mess!

He screamed in pain and fell to the ground.

Steven used the same method to take down another soldier who hadn't managed to hide.

Two men lay in the snow, wailing in agony.

Even well-trained soldiers couldn't endure the excruciating pain of shattered limbs.

"Jacob, Dylan!!"

Seeing their comrades' miserable state, the soldiers' eyes turned red with rage, wanting to rush out and save them!

They could bear the pain of their comrades' deaths. Yet, having lived side by side with their comrades, they couldn't turn a blind eye to those in peril.

"Don't move! It's a trap, no one is allowed to go out!" Shawn angrily shouted, stopping every soldier who wanted to go out and rescue their comrades.

His heart was broken too, but he knew that they had to stay calm in such a situation, or they would fall into the enemy's trap!

"Smoke grenades, incendiary grenades, now!" Shawn shouted again.

At Shawn's command, someone immediately understood.

Since Steven was using sniping tactics, they would disrupt his vision.

As soon as the smoke grenades and incendiary grenades were thrown, thick white smoke and flames erupted around the two wounded soldiers.

Even with tactical goggles, it would be impossible to see through the smoke.

Shawn took the opportunity to send a few soldiers to rescue the wounded.

Steven raised an eyebrow. "As expected of professional soldiers, their combat skills are top-notch."

Now, he couldn't make precise shots. A cold smile appeared on Steven's lips.

He adjusted the direction of the Dimension Door, and the next moment, the ammunition that the extradimensional space had swallowed rained down on that area like a storm!

In the blink of an eye, the two wounded soldiers and the four who went to rescue them were engulfed in a rain of bullets.

Even with the best combat gear, they couldn't withstand such a terrifying onslaught.

A few seconds later, all of them were riddled with holes!

Shawn and the others were on the verge of tears, shouting the names of their fallen comrades in grief.

They were extremely angry and also terrified of the hidden Steven. Because the methods Steven used were beyond their comprehension.

"He's not human! We can't possibly fight him!" A young soldier clutched his gun, his face full of fear.

These soldiers had high combat skills, but the Astralium Kingdom had been at peace for too long.

Facing such a terrifying opponent for the first time and watching their comrades die horribly in front of them, it was inevitable that some would break down.

"Captain Cooper, should we call for reinforcements and ask the base to send more people?" A soldier suggested to Shawn.

Shawn's face twitched, turning red with agitation, and he kicked the soldier. "Shut up! We came here to rescue, and now you want to call the base for help? We'll be a laughingstock!"

"But... that guy is too terrifying! No, he's not human; he's a demon! Otherwise, why can't we kill him?" The soldiers were extremely frustrated.

No matter how skilled they were, they couldn't kill someone who couldn't be hit by bullets!

If they retreated, they would be targeted by the sniper; if they attacked, they couldn't breach the fortress.

"Calm down!" Yosef growled.

"That guy hasn't come out, which means he's still wary of us. Don't be too afraid!"

The soldiers were terrified by Steven's strange powers, while Shawn and Yosef, being modified Psychics, knew it wasn't some ghostly power but a Supernatural ability they didn't understand.

The unknown was often the most frightening, yet with some understanding, the fear diminished.

Shawn asked in a deep voice, "So what do we do? His marksmanship is as good as ours. If we show ourselves, we risk getting sniped!"

The villa area was quite open, and although there were houses for cover, they would have to expose themselves if they wanted to escape.

Yosef drew some lines in the snow and pointed to a curve, saying, "We'll break through the houses in front of us and follow this route to escape! As long as he can't see us, his marksmanship won't matter."
