Chapter 503 Chase's Letter
Steven wasn't in a rush. He took his time laying out all his doubts.
"I started to doubt it when I knew Natasha had multiple supernatural abilities—Not just variations of the same power, but completely different ones.."
"Blessing, Healing Touch, the physical strength of the Superhuman System, and that familiar ice and snow ability."
Steven crossed his arms and said calmly, "This is definitely abnormal."
"If these were really her own abilities, there'd be no reason to hide them for so long, even during our long fight with the zombie horde."
"But she never shows them to anyone, which means she doesn't want us to know about it."
"So, I can conclude that these abilities were taken from others by using the Frostheart that was separated from her body."
Cindy's face grew serious. "If that's true, no one can say for sure how strong Natasha is now."
"Every psychic's ability has its weaknesses. But if one person has many people's abilities, she's almost invincible!"
Steven said, "That's why she craves constant war in Starlight City."
"Because as long as those who got the Frostheart are alive, they're useless to her. Only when they die can she get their abilities."
Steven's heart stirred, and his gaze sharpened.
"Maybe the purge isn't just targeting outsiders. It includes her own people! After all, the Snowfall Cult has many psychics, and their deaths would benefit her as well."
Cindy couldn't help but nod. Steven's analysis sounded very reasonable. But still, no evidence.
Cindy said, "Just this isn't enough to convince other factions, let alone the investigation team."
"In this case, we can't just confront Natasha directly."
Steven's eyes lowered, his gaze cold and deep.
"But this time, we can't avoid it. Using the zombie horde, she has already weakened the combat power of our four factions by more than half!"
"Moreover, she gave us all the Frostheart. This is a signal, a signal that she is about to act against us!"
"The only thing that makes them hesitate now is the Silvercrest District. I'm afraid once Otha and the others leave, the Snowfall Cult will take action."
At this point, Steven reached into his pocket and took out a piece of white cloth.
"Additionally, there's this, which can prove my suspicions!"
Cindy curiously took the white cloth and looked at it. It was covered in dense writing.
"This is..."
Steven explained, "This was given to me by Chase. That guy slipped it into my hand the night before I left."
Steven thought of Chase's face, as desolate as a withered tree.
He couldn't help but sigh, "His son died. If it weren't for that, I don't think he would have risked telling me these things."
Cindy carefully read the contents on the white cloth.
It was a letter, but it wasn't written in ink; it was written in blood.
The gist of the letter was as follows:
[28 days ago, my family of three and our neighbors were brought to the Snowfall Cult by Jordan.]
[Natasha knew about my ability, and she took me to an abandoned building next to the church, where I saw a giant plant—they call it Bloodfeeder Vine.]
[Natasha told me that my responsibility was to use my ability to cultivate it.]
[My ability can accelerate the growth of plants, and the plants I cultivate have much stronger vitality.]
[At first, I thought this was just food for the Snowfall Cult, so I fed it with my own blood every day.]
[But gradually, I noticed something was wrong with it, no, with the entire Snowfall Cult!]
[First off, after eating the red fruit from the Bloodfeeder Vine, people would get all euphoric and start hallucinating, almost like being drugged.]
[And every time they handed out the red fruit, it was inside the church, where people had to listen to Natasha's teachings while munching on the fruit.]
[I think this is some kind of hypnosis to make her followers loyal, which happens in lots of cults throughout history.]
[I took note of this and later talked it over with my wife and kid, deciding not to eat that fruit.]
[Luckily, as a priest, I could still get other supplies, so food wasn't a problem.]
[Even though Neil noticed I wasn't eating the fruit, they needed me, so he didn't push it, just gave me a subtle reminder once.]
[Second, the Bloodfeeder Vine can't produce food from nothing. It feeds on corpses.]
[The Snowfall Cult folks toss corpses into the abandoned building where it grows, and the Bloodfeeder Vine wraps around the bodies, forming a cocoon to absorb the nutrients.]
[But I noticed some cocoons were different; they were bigger than the usual ones and didn't wither away but kept growing.]
[It seemed like the energy from the other cocoons was being absorbed to nurture them.]
[I once thought maybe some weird creatures were growing inside. But when I went back later, those things were gone.]
[I suspect the bodies being nurtured inside might be the source of the zombie virus. But I have no proof. If we could study the Bloodfeeder Vine closely, we might find out the truth.]
[Third, Natasha is a total lunatic!]
[If boys under 18 join the Snowfall Cult, she does a purification ritual on them—castrating, which I never understand.]
[Since we got here, I've been super worried my kid would be subjected to this. But... it still happened, no matter how careful we'd been.]
[Last of all, I once accidentally saw Natasha kill a female priest.]
[That priest was close to me and always very cautious, never did anything to piss off Natasha. But that day, I saw Natasha strangle her to death.]
[My son is dead, yet as his father, I can't avenge him. I hate it. I hope this info can help you. And if one day, when the chance comes, I hope you can do something for me.]
Cindy finished reading Chase's letter and slowly looked up at Steven, finally getting why Steven was so sure Natasha was trouble.
"If that's the case, then I get why she's done all this." Steven crossed his arms and said calmly, "Chase is closer to Natasha and the core of the Snowfall Cult than we are. His letter is super helpful to us."
"I think, putting all this info together, we can almost conclude that Natasha and the Snowfall Cult have major issues."
"The worst-case scenario is exactly what I said—The so-called Frostheart is a huge scam, and the generous gift is just for a better payoff."
"That's why she has a reason to make Starlight City chaotic, with bodies everywhere. The more people die, the faster she can reclaim abilities."
"It's even possible that this massive zombie crisis is her doing."
"If it weren't for the timely arrival of the folks from Silvercrest District, making her scared to act too openly, we might all be in danger by now."
Steven's eyes were filled with worry.
If Natasha really had such terrifying power, no one in Starlight City could stand against her, not even Steven himself.
