Chapter 506 Key Points
Steven lay sprawled on his bed, his mind racing.
He was sure now—Natasha was behind all the chaos in Starlight City!
But how did the zombie outbreak tie into her?
Even with supernatural powers, controlling zombies all over Starlight City at once seemed impossible, right?
And from what he saw with the Bronze Flying Elite Zombie attacking the church that night, it didn't look like she could control zombies.
If she could, she wouldn't have blown her cover about having multiple supernatural abilities so easily.
So, the zombies weren't under her control.
Was someone else working with Natasha?
Steven rubbed his temples, feeling more confused than ever.
He had once thought the zombie outbreak was linked to the Bloodfeeder Vine.
Chase had mentioned something that made him think.
But he had confirmed there was no zombie virus in the Bloodfeeder Vine. If the vine was creating zombies, there would be signs.
With all these questions swirling in his head, Steven's eyes started to close.
He was exhausted after being on high alert for so long.
Lying in his own bed, sleep came easily.
But in his dream, Steven found himself back in that abandoned building.
The Bloodfeeder Vine in front of him was way taller than he remembered, which was odd. He was sure it wasn't that tall before.
As the blood-colored mist cleared, he saw something shocking—The roots of the Bloodfeeder Vine were a chaotic mess, plunging deep into the ground!
And on these roots, zombies were growing like peanuts in the soil, with vine's roots feeding them fresh red nutrients.
"So that's it!"
Steven's eyes widened as he realized what he'd missed. It was the roots of the Bloodfeeder Vine!
The zombies lived underground, thriving in the damp, dark environment.
In a daze, Steven saw a figure appear above him.
As the view zoomed in, he saw it was Chase, the guy with the Sacred Devotion ability..
Chase approached the Bloodfeeder Vine, cut his wrist, and his blood flowed into the roots, which greedily absorbed it.
Then, the roots grew more vigorously, and the zombies hanging on them became plumper.
"Chase, so... he's the key!" Steven suddenly understood everything.
At that moment, the zombies on the roots in front of him suddenly opened their blood-red eyes, staring at him.
Steven jolted awake from his dream.
He was panting, his forehead cold and sweaty.
But the complex clues in his mind suddenly made sense because of the dream.
"I get it, I get it all!" Steven's eyes were sharp and bright.
He had found the thread in the tangled mess, and by following it, he could piece together the whole story.
Steven got out of bed, grabbed a notebook from the bedside table, and started jotting everything down while it was fresh in his mind.
[The zombie crisis started 21 days ago when the five major forces in Starlight City were attacked by zombies at the same time, while Chase was taken to the Snowfall Cult a month ago.]
[In other words, the reason there weren't any zombies in Starlight City before was that the Bloodfeeder Vine's power to create zombies was too weak.]
[But with Chase's Sacred Devotion power, the Bloodfeeder Vine could churn out a bunch of mature hosts—the Zombie kings—in no time.]
[Once the Zombie King is made, it can inject the virus into suitable corpses, creating a horde of zombies.]
[But among the group, the Zombie King and Bronze Elite Zombie are clearly different from the rest. They actually have life, even intelligence.]
[The Zombie King is the brain of the zombie group, while the Bronze Elite Zombie represents brute strength.]
[Natasha can control the Bloodfeeder Vine and give orders to the Zombie King. But she can't directly command the zombie horde.]
[The Zombie King's intelligence is pretty low, only able to follow simple commands, as seen from its slow learning of human behavior.]
[This explains why the Bronze Flying Elite Zombie attacked Natasha.]
[As for why I didn't get any info from the Bloodfeeder Vine, they must've hidden the crucial stuff before we went to the Snowfall Cult.]
[They even left deliberate flaws for us to investigate the Bloodfeeder Vine, to throw us off.]
After writing, Steven tossed the pen on the table and let out a long breath.
"Finally, everything's sorted out! This should be the truth."
Steven's eyes lit up, and the worry in his eyes vanished.
"Now that we understand the root of everything, we can figure out how to deal with it."
Steven touched his chin and muttered to himself.
"Since Natasha can control the zombie tide, she wouldn't let her ultimate weapon be easily destroyed."
"So, everything is just a show for us, no, specifically for the investigation team from Silvercrest District!"
"They fear Silvercrest District and need the investigation team to believe the zombie crisis in Starlight City is resolved, so the team will leave."
"But once Otha and the others really leave, Natasha can attack us without holding back."
"Even though she's absorbed the power of many Psychics and is terrifyingly powerful, she can't wipe out all our forces by herself."
"So, she must've kept a considerable number of zombies. Even more than those that showed up outside the Snowfall Cult!"
The clearer Steven thought, the more he felt Natasha's terror.
He had seen that woman, about twenty years old, with a cold and young appearance.
But such a girl had such meticulous thoughts, which was truly horrifying.
With a second thought, however, Steven found everything very reasonable.
If he had Natasha's abilities, he would definitely choose the same approach.
"The current situation is very dangerous. The first thing to do is to keep Otha and the others from leaving Starlight City."
"But she has absorbed so many Psychic abilities and powers. Even if we expose her, who can kill her?"
Steven pondered for a long time, but this question remained unanswered.
If a battle broke out, he didn't think he could deal with Natasha.
Maybe Otha could, but in his physical condition, another top-level Psychic battle would surely speed up his death.
Would he agree?
As Steven was deep in thought, there was a knock on his door.
Cindy's voice came from outside. "Steven, can I come in?"
