Chapter 298 Human Bomb

No matter what tricks or schemes the other side had, they were just regular folks coming over. Steven just needed to take them out.

Steven wasn't nervous at all. He quickly changed into some gear, a reinforced knockoff of a special forces combat uniform.

Seeing this, Earl asked enviously, "Captain Rogers, what about me? I'm scared of dying too. Got any protective gear for me?"

From the perspective of being afraid of death, Earl and Steven were on the same page.

Steven tossed him a bulletproof vest he wasn't using and handed him a helmet.

"Hurry up and put it on. Let's go see what's going on. I don't know what their plan is, but we can't let these people get close to the shelter," Steven said.

The two of them headed to the first floor. Through the one-way glass, they could see the villagers of Cox Town slowly approaching.

Earl leaned against the window, looking at each one. Many were his familiar neighbors.

Suddenly, Earl's eyes widened. "Julia!"

In the crowd, he saw Julia.

She had a pained expression on her face, her body trembling like she might collapse at any moment.

But she didn't dare to stop walking, as if something behind her was forcing her to move forward.

Steven noticed Earl's unusual expression but just glanced at him indifferently. "We have to kill all these people."

One sentence made Earl shiver.

"Kill... kill them? All of them?" Earl's expression looked like he was about to cry.

Even though he chose to abandon Cox Town and escape, it was still really hard for him to raise a gun and kill the villagers.

After all, most of the villagers in Cox Town had the last name Cox, and any random person would have some blood relation to him.

Steven looked at the cowardly Earl and sighed deeply. "If this shelter is breached, do you think we can survive? It's the apocalypse now."

Steven emphasized heavily and then said no more.

If he could, he wouldn't want his hands stained with blood either. But the world was cruel. If you wanted to live, someone else had to die.

Steven didn't force Earl to kill his own kin.

He set up a Dimension Door for protection in front of the window, then opened the window and raised a handgun to start shooting.

Immediately, five or six villagers fell.

The villagers' movements slowed down, and they let out terrified screams.

However, some people saw Steven and Earl through the window.

"Earl, it's Earl!"

"Earl, we're your family! How can you shoot at us?"

"Earl, I'm your aunt! Don't shoot, save us!"

The pleas and curses hit Earl's ears, making him break out in a cold sweat and take a few steps back.

Especially when he saw Julia, looking at him with pleading eyes. "Earl, save me! I'm begging you! Don't you like me? I can marry you. Just save me!"

Earl's cold sweat flowed even more. But Steven's shooting didn't slow down at all. He kept taking out the villagers of Cox Town with precision.

Steven was starting to wonder what these people were here for.

But he was sure it had to be Charles and those folks from West Mountain Base behind this.

After one shot, an old man's head exploded, blood splattering everywhere, and the screams grew louder.

"Earl, what are you doing? I know you're in there. Stop it! Are you really going to watch us all die?"

"Earl, don't kill me, don't kill me!"

"Earl, you traitor to the Cox family! Look at what you've done! Cox Town ended up like this because of you. If it weren't for you colluding with Steven, how could so many people in Cox Town have died?" an old woman cursed loudly.

Steven frowned and glanced at Earl.

He felt like these people were here to die, which was really strange. Could it be that Charles planned to use their blood to open the shelter's door?

Unfortunately, that was completely impossible.

Steven turned around and kept shooting.

But this time, after a body fell to the ground, something under the clothes was revealed.

Steven looked closely and immediately understood what these people were here for!

They had explosives strapped under their clothes!

Charles intended to use the villagers of Cox Town as cover to blow up the shelter.

This time, Steven stopped shooting. Realizing the other side's purpose, he calmed down instead.

"Earl, did you see what they have on them?" Steven signaled to Earl with his eyes.

Hearing this, Earl looked over and saw the explosives strapped to the villagers.

He couldn't believe it and widened his eyes. "These scumbags!!"

Earl had no good feelings toward West Mountain Base. However, he believed that the soldiers there should have at least some moral standards and wouldn't kill innocents indiscriminately.

Yet now, they had turned the villagers of Cox Town into human bombs!

This was an inhumane act, worse than that of beasts! "I told you, they've betrayed their beliefs and are a bunch of desperados! So to deal with them, we have to be even more ruthless," Steven said calmly.

Earl's mind was on the verge of collapse. These people were all sacrificial lambs, destined to die here no matter what.

And he had to watch it all happen, unable to do anything!

Steven handed the handgun to him. "The situation is very clear now. You know what you need to do, right?"

Earl hesitated for a long time, then gritted his teeth and resolutely took the handgun.

"Since they are all doomed to die, killing them isn't my fault! Blame it all on those bastards from West Mountain Base!"

After convincing himself, Earl took the gun and pulled the trigger toward the crowd.

Without the psychological burden, Earl fired decisively.

If he felt a bit sad at first, after the first shot, he felt an unprecedented thrill!

After one shot, Yvette Cox from their village died. She was his mother's cousin, a wealthy businesswoman who often boasted about her children in front of his parents and belittled Earl as a loser.

After personally killing her, Earl felt a sense of relief!

In fact, he didn't have much emotional attachment to some of his relatives.

Subconsciously, Earl actually wished they would die!

Earl laughed softly, his body starting to tremble with excitement.

His shooting speed also increased.

As an Otaku, he had almost no friends in Cox Town, and no one respected him.

When the apocalypse came, he gained Supernatural ability and helped the village with many things. But even then, he still didn't feel he had earned anyone's respect.

Especially the way people looked at him, with disdain, jealousy, and indifference, which hurt him the most!

Countless nights, he tried to comfort himself, thinking he was overthinking it. But was he really overthinking it?

Earl knew better than anyone that he wasn't! They really looked down on him.

But now, look at this, the lives of these villagers who had caused him so much pain were completely in his hands!

And right now, he didn't even need to feel guilty about killing them.

After all, even if he didn't kill them, they would be blown up by the bombs.

So it was justified!

A sinister smile slowly appeared on Earl's face.

Soon, he emptied an entire magazine.

Steven, standing beside him, handed him another magazine, signaling him to continue. Earl's marksmanship was terrible, but at a distance of three to four hundred feet, with such a dense crowd, he could kill quite a few people even with his eyes closed.

Steven had Earl shoot, not to prove his loyalty, but because Earl knew deep down that he had always been insecure and eager to vent his frustrations.

Despite being a powerful Psychic, he was constantly belittled in the village, and he didn't even have anyone to confide in.

It would be strange if Earl didn't have any psychological issues.

Killing these villagers who had once looked down on him and caused him immense pressure would completely liberate Earl.

The villagers screamed in terror, some cursing, some begging, and some trying to run back.

But the bullets from behind were even more precise, piercing the heads of anyone who tried to escape.

Charles and his men were right behind them, forcing them to move closer to the shelter step by step.

Charles's plan was to exploit Earl's feelings for the villagers of Cox Town, allowing these bombs to get close to the shelter.

These 100 people carried enough explosives to complete a blast.

Once they got close, Steven's ability would be rendered useless.

In that case, they could blow open the shelter and rush in to kill Steven!

To complete the mission, Charles had become completely twisted, disregarding all consequences.

He didn't even mind sacrificing the lives of the entire Cox Town!

However, the dense gunfire ahead shattered his fantasy.

"They're actually killing the villagers of Cox Town. They're beasts!" Charles said angrily, then raised his hand and killed a villager who tried to escape.

Lily watched from the side, speechless. 'You forced them to be bombs, and now you're calling others beasts?'

Charles had his own logic. In his view, killing these villagers was for the greater good, while Earl killing his own kin was worse than being a beast.

However, he didn't expect Earl to act so decisively, even seeming to have a personal vendetta.

Seeing Earl getting more excited, Steven took out an assault rifle from the extradimensional space and handed it to him.

"Use this instead! It's more satisfying," said Steven.

Earl took the gun, and Steven showed him how to use it. "Don't hold the gun up. Use one hand to steady it; the recoil is quite strong."

After learning, Earl set up the gun on the windowsill and started shooting at the villagers he knew!
