Chapter 56 The Assault

Steven sat at home, quietly waiting for those crazy neighbors to arrive.

His expression was serious, with a pile of weapons in front of him.

At that moment, he received a message from Henry.

"Steven, you better run! They are all coming for you armed."

A warmth filled Steven's heart, since it's rare to find good people in this world.

He smiled, "Mr. Garcia, don't worry, I can handle it."

After a moment of silence, Henry seemed to understand that running was not an option now. Resistance was the only choice.

He said, "Steven, I hope you survive. I'm sorry, now... I may not be able to help you."

Henry felt ashamed, knowing he owed Steven a favor.

When Steven reminded him to stock up on supplies, Henry filled his house with bread, ham, and other things.

Now, his living conditions were decent.

But as he watched Steven being surrounded by so many people, he felt helpless.

Steven said calmly, "The fact that you didn't join them already shows your kindness. Don't worry, I don't need your help."

Henry's choice was the right one. If he had come to help Steven now, he might have been caught in the chaos with over a hundred other residents.

Steven and Henry exchanged a few words, being cautious not to reveal any details about their homes.

No matter who the other person was, Steven never fully trusted anyone!

Soon after, Steven felt a slight tremor under his feet.

Outside came the sound of "Boom."

"They're here," Steven said calmly.

He knew it was the sound of over a hundred people rushing up the stairs.

But Steven lived on the 24th floor! With the elevator out of order, those people running up the stairs must be exhausted.

Of course, it wasn't just people from downstairs.

At least, Steven saw on the large screen monitoring the entire unit that his neighbors from 2402 next door were also coming out with knives and wrenches.

The couple next door, the woman held a knife hiding behind the man.

Their eyes were full of greed as they gazed at Steven's door.

Surely, knowing that their neighbor had been living a heavenly life for the past half month had sparked jealousy in their hearts!

The crowd kept coming, blocking the corridor in front of Steven's door.

Some people held umbrellas over their heads to prevent cold water from being poured on them from outside.

Before long, someone couldn't resist and started banging on the door.

"Steven, come out! If you don't want to die, this is your last chance!"

"Don't wait for us to break in, it will be too late then!"

Through the monitor, Steven didn't see Larry and the others, not even Andrew.

Their actions confirmed something for him - Larry and Andrew hadn't informed them of the actual situation in his house.

In other words, their goal was to let other neighbors be the cannon fodder, enduring Steven's crossbow shots and high-voltage attacks first.

Steven didn't hold back either, he had plenty of energy sources in hand, not lacking in electricity.

He directly connected the high-voltage electricity.

The man who had just angrily banged on the door became paralyzed due to the current, his face contorted in pain!

The most terrifying part was that with over a hundred people crowding in, the entire hallway was packed.

So after he was shocked, a whole bunch of people behind him were also electrified!

"It's high-voltage electricity, get away quickly!"

After being shocked, the people behind him scrambled to get away, as if they had been bitten by a tiger.

If they weren't wearing so many layers of clothing, they wouldn't have had a chance to break free.

Everyone was shocked by the high-voltage shock, muscles twitching in pain.

The man who knocked on the door and the seven or eight people next to him were the worst off, as they had no chance to escape and were directly burned black by the electricity.

Others watched in horror, but no one dared to go and help.

Seconds later, Steven cut off the electricity.

Nine people were smoking, the air filled with the smell of roasted meat and burnt clothes.

The sound of a loud thud resonated.

The nine people fell to the ground, their bodies charred, unsure if they were alive or dead.

But everyone knew that even if these people still had a breath, they were as good as dead in the current situation.

Everyone stared wide-eyed, horrified by what they saw.

They never expected so many people to die suddenly, right in front of them.

The dead looked extremely grim, eyes wide open.

Several women in the crowd couldn't bear it and screamed, bending over to vomit.

Unfortunately, their stomachs were empty, and theye were only able to vomit bile.

Some people felt fear and wanted to escape.

But when they reached the stairs, they found that Andrew and his men had blocked the corridor.

"What are you trying to do? Go back!" Andrew, holding a gun, said coldly.

The corridor was their only way back, and by blocking it, Andrew was forcing everyone to confront Steven.

The more dead, the better for them, as Andrew could rightfully seize their resources.

Larry and a few others were also present, dragging their sick bodies.

They looked at the nine bodies, their faces icy.

Clearly, they had the same intentions as Andrew and his group.

Seeing the fear in the crowd, Larry shouted, "That despicable Steven, he's nothing but an animal! Killing his own neighbors."

"Buddies, we must kill Steven and avenge them!"

"Don't be afraid, use wood to hit the door, just don't touch it!"

"He doesn't have many tricks left, he's exhausted all his tricks!"

"As long as we break through this door, there's a cozy fireplace behind it, and plenty of food waiting for us!"

Larry's words of encouragement made many people tear up.

They had been living in hunger and cold for over half a month, willing to give everything for a little food and warmth.

Soon, someone brought a wooden stick, probably taken from a wardrobe or bed.

"Brothers, let's do it! Open the door and kill that bastard Steven!"

A group of people held wooden sticks and began to frantically hit Steven's door.

The intense banging made the water glasses on Steven's table start to shake.

But Steven felt it wasn't exciting enough.

He took out a large Sennheiser speaker from the extradimensional space, connected it to his phone, and played his favorite music.

Outside, people were desperately banging on the door, while inside, classic pop songs were playing, making them even angrier.

"Steven, who do you think you are, I'll kill you right now!"

"You will die today, you will pay for my brother!"

They picked up wooden stakes and hit harder and harder.

But after dozens of hits, they sadly realized that the door hadn't budged an inch.

Dozens of adult men exerted a force of over a thousand pounds.

However, all they left on the black iron door were small white spots and almost imperceptible dents.

The neighbors' hearts sank.

"What kind of door is this, why is it so strong?"

"At this rate, when will we be able to break through the door ?"

Everyone was panting.

Working in temperatures below, -158 degrees Fahrenheit, and not having enough to eat, they had no energy left.

After this, many people felt weak and had to take turns.

But at this rate, it seemed they would all be exhausted before making any progress.

At that moment, a man walked up, stared at the door for a while, then exclaimed, "This... this is a bank vault door!"

This person worked at a bank, and upon closer inspection, he immediately recognized it.

Upon hearing this, the people around felt even more hopeless.

"So the door can't be broken through?"

The bank employee shook his head bitterly, "Not to mention wood, even a bomb wouldn't blast open such a top-of-the-line vault door!"

"Without the key, only the world's top lock expert would have a chance of opening it."

At that moment, Steven raised his crossbow and arrived at the shooting hole.
