Chapter 181 The Truth Lies Within the Lies
Steven fell into silence.
The current predicament left him with no good choices.
If he didn't kill Dawson, he would always be blackmailed by Dawson.
Moreover, Dawson, a worldly-wise person who had been navigating the business world for years, was much better at scheming than he was.
Over time, Dawson would only get greedier, extracting more benefits from Steven.
But what if Steven killed him?
Steven was worried about the risk of the information being exposed.
He was in a bind, having both the power to easily destroy the opponent and fearing that he would hesitate.
Elinor frowned slightly, also trying to come up with a solution for him.
Feeling frustrated, Steven grabbed one of her soft, white feet and played in his hand, trying to broaden his thinking.
Elinor's face turned rosy, and her thoughts became a jumbled mess as she shyly met Steven's gaze. The allure in her eyes was unmistakable, a silent invitation that spoke volumes.
She suggested, "If you really can't think of a way, just relax! We're not in a hurry. We can pretend to go along with him for now and come up with a strategy slowly."
Steven shook his head. "Dragging this out for too long won't do us any good. The key is, if I can't think of a way to solve this problem, it makes me feel uneasy."
Neither of them could come up with a good idea.
At this moment, Nora returned from the botanical garden.
Seeing Steven's serious face on the sofa, she couldn't help but ask, "What's going on?"
Steven looked at Nora.
To be honest, he didn't fully trust Nora yet, and he hadn't planned to discuss this matter with her.
But as he considered the situation further, he realized that having another perspective could indeed bring fresh ideas and potential solutions.
Moreover, Nora had extensive social experience and had her own business. So, she might be able to offer some advice.
"Nora, come here! I need to discuss something with you." Steven called Nora over and had her sit on the other side of him.
Then, he briefly explained the situation to her.
Hearing what Dawson had done, Nora also frowned deeply. "This is really tricky! He's a very cunning person; there's no way he wouldn't be on guard against you."
She sighed deeply. "This is what the saying goes, 'rumors spread with the ease of a whisper, while clearing up them requires relentless effort.' We in the entertainment industry have suffered a lot from this. It's really despicable!"
Nora's casual remark cleared Steven's doubts.
A flash of inspiration hit him, and he seemed to grasp something.
"Wait a minute! Did you just say 'rumor'?" he asked.
Nora said, "Yeah, isn't him spreading your information just like those unscrupulous media spreading rumors about celebrities?"
"He doesn't have any solid evidence, does he?" Elinor snorted disdainfully.
"The key is, even if it's a rumor, once it comes out of his mouth, there will definitely be people who believe it." Steven propped his chin with his hands, his brain working rapidly.
"Dawson has my information. But this information isn't solid evidence. However, if it gets out, it could still cause me trouble."
"I can't stop him from sending out the information. After all, we don't have an expert in computers."
"But if I treat this as a rumor, then I might have a way!"
Steven's eyes gradually brightened, and a plan began to form in his mind.
Elinor and Nora looked at Steven curiously. "What are you planning to do?"
Steven smiled mysteriously and didn't tell the two of them. "I need to prepare first. I'll tell you when I'm ready!"
He kissed each of them on the cheek.
Having someone to discuss things with was indeed more useful than pondering alone.
Then, he left the living room and headed to the control room on the first floor.
Steven closed the door, ensuring no one could disturb him, and then took out his phone to dial Dawson's number.
The call was quickly connected.
"Hey, Steven, is your stuff ready?" Dawson asked.
Steven, feeling impatient, said in a harsh tone, "What's the rush? Do you really think I have a lot of supplies? Damn it, if you didn't have dirt on me, I'd really want to kill you!"
Steven's nasty tone angered Dawson.
He laughed loudly. "You foolish kid! If you kill me, you won't live for long either!"
"I'm telling you, you'd better not try anything on me. Once I'm dead, within 24 hours, your information will automatically be sent to everyone's phone in Starlight City!"
He continued, "Imagine how serious the consequences would be then!"
'Within 24 hours.' Steven thought for a moment and got a sense of the timing. 'It seemed Dawson set up the timed automatic upload right after calling me.'
"You win! Wait a bit, I'll bring it to you!" Steven hung up the phone, a smile appearing on his lips.
Then, he turned on the control room's supercomputer.
This computer had its own server and could connect to the internet worldwide through satellite networks.
Naturally, it could also cover all of Starlight City!
After a brief thought, Steven had an idea.
He didn't know much about computers, but he knew enough.
For example, he knew how to post on the few remaining city forums in Starlight City and use mass messaging software to send messages to everyone.
[The mystery of the missing supplies from the southern Walmart warehouse—confirmed to be an inside job, with the supplies preemptively moved elsewhere.]
[Where did the supplies worth billions of dollars from the Walmart warehouse go? According to eyewitnesses, armed forces appeared that night for a top-secret transport. The police remain tight-lipped about the matter.]
[Revealed! The largest supply theft case in Starlight City is directly related to the snowstorm, with eyewitnesses spotting alien UFOs.]
Steven racked his brain and came up with various sensational news stories.
To bury the truth, the best way was to hide it among a pile of lies. That way, no one could tell what was real.
It might not fool everyone, but it would definitely make most people think it was all rumors.
And the delayed information from Dawson would naturally not be trusted.
This way, the risk of Steven being discovered would be greatly reduced.
Steven finished editing the content and saved it. He didn't send it out immediately because the target audience was everyone in Starlight City.
In the frozen world, only these people would come and pose a threat to him.
'For now, this should be enough! This is all I can do to handle it. As for whether it will work, I can just pray to God!'
Steven prepared for the worst.
He made up his mind. 'But Dawson had to die!'
