Chapter 421 The Expansion of the Snowfall Cult
Life in the shelter had settled into a daily routine of stability.
However, other factions were facing tense situations.
The Snowfall Cult was aggressively preaching within the territories of Silverlake Base and Emberwick Base, recruiting more survivors into their fold.
"Join the Snowfall Cult, and you'll have ample food, a stable life without danger, and equality for all!"
"Join the Snowfall Cult, and you won't go to hell; after death, you'll enter the divine kingdom and enjoy eternal bliss!"
"Join the Snowfall Cult, and you can wash away all sins and be reborn!"
In the apocalypse, people needed two things.
First, material satisfaction.
Second, spiritual satisfaction.
The Snowfall Cult's promises happened to meet both needs.
As a result, more and more survivors were inspired to join their ranks.
The Snowfall Cult was rapidly expanding!
One day, the Sunshine Community welcomed a group of ascetics dressed in gray and white robes.
Jordan appeared in the snow, leaning on a cane.
Only Building 18 in the Sunshine Community still had living people.
They had survived by relying on the corpses of the dead and the food cultivated through Chase's [Sacred Devotion] ability.
The price for awakening the Supernatural ability was swearing allegiance to the Snowfall Cult.
When Jordan arrived, Chase immediately led the building's residents to greet him.
"Greetings, honorable Jordan!" Chase said excitedly, his eyes full of devout reverence.
Behind him, his wife and sixteen-year-old son looked at the Snowfall Cult's ascetics with curiosity.
The last time these people had come, they had only interacted with Chase.
After bestowing Frostheart upon Chase, they had left in a hurry.
At that time, this area was still under the control of West Mountain Base, so they couldn't stay long and had to preach in secret.
But now, the three base factions had either been eliminated or forced into hiding, so the Snowfall Cult no longer needed to be discreet about their preaching.
Jordan looked at Chase and smiled warmly, "Chase, it seems you have mastered the ability bestowed upon you by the Snow God!"
Chase bowed and said, "Praise the Snow God, praise the almighty Ms. Carter! Thank you, Jordan, for granting me Ms. Carter's Blessing. We can survive now!"
Jordan nodded with a smile, his gaze lingering on Chase's son, Delbert Gray, for a moment before returning.
"Now, I have good news for you. You have received Ms. Carter's permission to join us in Seldwa District. You can live with Ms. Carter and all the followers!"
Hearing Jordan's words, Chase and the others were puzzled. "Seldwa District?"
It wasn't far from here, but they had grown accustomed to living in Hermes District.
Since they could survive, they didn't want to change their current situation easily.
In the apocalypse, the unknown was always terrifying.
Jordan smiled and said, "Don't be afraid! It's a paradise in the apocalypse. Everyone in the Snowfall Cult's got each other's backs there, building a sweet spot to call home. Soon, it'll be an apocalypse-proof utopia. You're lucky—you've been picked to live there."
He turned to Chase, eyes lit up. "Oh, and I told Ms. Carter about you, Chase. She's all about your skills—thinks you're indispensable to the cult. So if you join, you and your family get the best treatment."
Chase opened his mouth in surprise, hardly believing his ears!
For someone like him to be personally named by Ms. Carter was an incredible honor!
Everyone around the community was obsessed with the Snowfall Cult, treating it like some holy grail.
They were only alive because of Ms. Carter's Blessing, which had unlocked Chase's supernatural ability.
Without hesitation, Chase dropped to one knee in front of Jordan. "All hail the Snow God, all hail Ms. Carter! I'm all in—Chase is ready to give it all for the Snowfall Cult!"
Jordan was very pleased with Chase's attitude. "Stand up! Bring your family and belongings, and follow me to the Snowfall Cult's camp."
Everyone happily packed up all their clothes and food.
Then, the more than fifty surviving people from the building followed Jordan to the Snowfall Cult with great anticipation.
The journey from the Sunshine Community to the cathedral in Seldwa District was long.
Fortunately, they were sustained by their beautiful visions of the future, which helped them endure the snow and wind.
The Snowfall Cult was flourishing like never before, with more and more people joining.
The priests maintained order.
They distributed food and clothing to new members and taught them the doctrines of the Snowfall Cult.
When Chase and the others arrived, they saw many people holding a kind of red fruit and eating it.
It was a fruit Chase had never seen before, larger than an adult's fist, translucent, and emitting a strange blood-red color.
But Chase didn't think much of it.
At that moment, he and his family were immersed in the joy of joining the utopia.
After they arrived, a nun immediately came to receive them.
Jordan said to Chase, "Chase, come with me! Ms. Carter wants to see you personally."
Chase was a mix of nerves and excitement, but he didn't forget about his wife and kid. "What about my family…"
Jordan smiled. "Relax, the sister will take good care of them."
Chase breathed a sigh of relief.
Even his wife, Dione, nudged him. "Getting called by Ms. Carter is an honor. Go on, we'll be fine."
Chase nodded, and with everyone staring in envy, he followed Jordan to the massive cathedral.
The rest of the group? The nun led them off with a smile.
Pushing open the cathedral doors, Chase looked inside with a heart full of reverence.
Although it was a cloudy day outside, the inside of the cathedral seemed to be bathed in a holy light.
The light was dim, except around the altar, which remained bright.
He saw a woman in a white robe standing there, her back to him, looking devout.
However, somewhat amusingly, she was worshipping Jesus on the cross.
Seeing his confusion, Jordan coughed and said, "God is everywhere and ever-changing; His image depends on the believer's heart. So don't mind these details!"
Chase quickly said, "Yes, I understand."
Of course, he understood.
This was the Church of the Holy Ground, the center of the Starlight City Christian Church.
The Snowfall Cult had taken it as their headquarters and had no time to create new idols, so they had to claim that Shinrikyo religion and Christianity shared the same origin.
But Chase was smart; he wouldn't expose these things.
He was grateful for the Snowfall Cult's kindness, but that didn't mean he believed in God.
Some things were best kept to oneself and not spoken aloud.
