Chapter 409 Everyone Has a Plan

The convoy from Emberwick Base threw out smoke grenades.

Soon, thick smoke covered the surrounding visibility.

Steven hummed a tune casually and then shot randomly.

Emberwick's losses were even worse than Silverlake's.

Steven had first taken out the tires and tracks on several vehicles, leaving them dead in the water.

Plus, Emberwick wasted too much time trying to fight back.

In that window, Steven managed to wound Valentin and take out over forty soldiers!

But even with heavy losses, Megan wasn't about to order an all-out assault on the shelter.

Just like Silverlake, Emberwick couldn't go all-in on the attack alone.

Since it was a joint operation with four factions, each had to pull their weight—and each had to soak up the shelter's firepower.

After ditching four vehicles and leaving more than forty bodies behind, Emberwick retreated to safer ground.

"A damn sniper on steroids, plus someone who can deflect artillery? Can't tell if it's one freak or two. But either way, those abilities are straight-up terrifying!" Megan hissed, her face dead serious.

Losing some vehicles and ordinary soldiers wasn't the scariest part.

The scariest part was not understanding the opponent's strength!

Just after the first encounter, Steven had given them all a huge shock!

The elite troops of the vast Emberwick Base were beaten so badly that they had no choice but to retreat!

Megan thought to herself, 'Now I get why just a handful of them could hold off West Mountain Base for a whole damn month!'

Some things she couldn't say out loud in front of her team, but she was sure of one thing—that sniper in the shelter was at least on her level, if not better.

Byron ordered everyone to stay put and let Valentin take some medicine to treat his injuries.

Fortunately, although many had died, the core combat strength remained, and morale wasn't too shaken.

He went to Megan's car and asked, "Ms. Grayson, what should we do next? We could brute-force our way through, but it's still 4.5 miles out from Emerald Estate. Between here and there, we've got no solid way to counter that sniper. And if they can deflect our fire, guns and artillery are pretty much useless."

Megan shot him a look, cool as ice. "What's there to freak out about? They've only got a handful of Psychics; they can't keep this up forever. We've got thousands of fighters from the four forces. Even if it's a grind, we'll wear them down. But let's not charge in headfirst. Better to let the other groups take the lead, draw the sniper's fire, and burn through his powers."

Byron nodded and went to relay the orders for everyone to rest.

Megan picked up the satellite phone and called Leonard from Silverlake Base. "Leonard, where are you now?"

On the other end, Leonard said, "We'll be there soon! Have you arrived?"

Megan smirked, "Not yet! We have a long way to go, so we'll be the last to arrive. But we won't miss the agreed time."

Leonard laughed, "I thought you were already there! I was going to ask about the situation."

Megan also laughed, "We both had the same thought!"

"Alright, let's talk when we meet!"

After hanging up, both thought simultaneously: You go ahead and taste that sniper's bullets!

For Steven, the two convoys showed up, he took out a few guys, and then they bolted.

"Just a couple of casualties, and they're already pulling back? What's the point here? Are they planning something?"

The wide-open snowfield was Steven's playground, no doubt.

But he wasn't naïve—he knew they weren't idiots. After taking that hit, they'd definitely switch up their game plan, not giving him another clean shot.

But that didn't matter.

As long as they launched an attack from the front of the shelter, they would be within Steven's shooting range!

"I want everyone to know that today, all ordinary soldiers on the battlefield will be shot by me!"

Steven's mouth curled into an evil smile.

Others had helpless expressions.

Lily shook her head; if she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she would never believe Steven could take down the nearly invincible close-combat Charles.

Earl hurriedly shouted, "Captain Rogers, if you have a chance to kill a Psychic, do it first! After all, we're on the first line of defense, so lighten our load."

In the end, Psychics were the hardest to deal with.

Steven shrugged, casual as ever. "I'll give it a shot. But don't give it too high. These Psychics who've made it this far, especially the Streng"

He added, "You know how it is—my power's only good against weak targets. If I think they're tough? I'm out."

Although Steven said this, they knew he was just being modest.

Steven never exaggerated his strength, so his opponents would underestimate him, and his teammates wouldn't overly rely on him.

But when he really wanted to kill someone, his methods were so cruel and despicable that they could exceed the limits of human imagination.

Steven looked into the distance through his tactical goggles, seeing nothing but dead silence.

He murmured, "I made sure they saw my deflection trick—keeps them from busting out the big guns. That buys you some time. No heavy artillery? Good luck cracking those ice walls."

Steven's Dimension Door had limited area, essentially opening a door in space, so it wasn't convenient for moving.

Therefore, it couldn't be used to cover the entire defense line.

But by showing it off early, as a scare tactic, he could get the most bang for his buck.

"Who's next?" Steven muttered, gripping his gun.

Snowfall Cult or Frostwood Base—supposedly his allies in this mess—but if he hesitated, he'd blow his shot.

Then it hit him.

A massive crowd of Snowfall Cult fanatics was trudging across the snowy field.

A sea of them—easily a thousand strong.

"Not wasting ammo on that," Steven muttered.

Should've seen it coming. The Cult was always ready to throw their zealots to the wolves.
