Chapter 484 Exploring the Mystery

These days, the Snowfall Cult followers were seeing a bunch of armed forces popping up around their camp, but they had no clue what the higher-ups were planning.

A lot of them even thought these guys were here to protect them, and they were all cheering and stuff.

Only a handful of folks got how serious the situation really was.

The higher-ups only told the priests and above, plus their families, to take shelter in the church.

But they kept the regular followers in the dark.

Some people, though, had been through the apocalypse long enough to sense danger.

Take Clio, for example. She picked up on it right away.

Though Chase didn't know her intentions, he needed her help now, so he decided to come clean with her.

Chase said, "Even though Delbert's hurt, I still have some pull in the Snowfall Cult and can protect you. So, you know what to do, right?"

Clio nodded. "I get it. I'll talk to him."

She walked over to the tent, squatted down, and started chatting with Delbert.

Delbert went from being excited and resistant to gradually calming down.

A sixteen-year-old boy was still more naive and immature compared to girls of the same age.

Clio easily soothed his wounded heart.

"It's okay, I won't judge you. What I like is your optimistic and positive personality!"

"Delbert, I really want to see you! Do you not like me anymore?"

"I... I feel so lonely. In this world, I have no family left, only you. So, please don't ignore me, okay?"

Slowly, Delbert was comforted, and he eventually opened the tent to let Clio in.

They talked for a while, and finally, Delbert agreed to go to the church with Chase and the others to take refuge.

Clio's methods to comfort Delbert remained unknown, but as adults, Chase and Dione knew that joy didn't always come from sex.

Clio opened a new world for Delbert.

How an eighteen-year-old girl knew so much was something no one wanted to ask about.

It just goes to show that in the apocalypse, sometimes you have to give up certain things to get by.

After comforting Delbert, Clio walked over to Chase and smiled, "Sir, Delbert has agreed to go."

Chase looked at Clio, then at the improved state of Delbert.

He said in a serious tone, "Be careful when you get to the church. Ms. Carter doesn't seem to like seeing love between men and women."

Clio quickly lowered her head and said softly, "Okay, I've already learned my lesson."

The fortifications around the Snowfall Cult were done.

Almost all the armed forces from the five major factions were here, plus the Snowfall Cult followers, making up more than 8,000 people!

Considering the zombie tide, it's hard to say if Starlight City even had 50,000 people left.

So, this was the most crowded place in Starlight City right now, making it very likely that all the zombies would smell the living and gather here.

Steven and his team checked out the area and came up with a basic battle plan—If things went south, they'd retreat right away.

But the first day went by peacefully, with not a single zombie showing up around the Snowfall Cult area.

Some folks were left to guard and take turns on night watch to keep zombies from sneaking up on them.

Midnight rolled around.

Steven, who was resting in the car, suddenly woke up.

He sat up from the bed, and the sound of snoring filled the air—Henry and Earl were snoring like chainsaws.

Steven lifted the curtain on the car window and peeked outside.

Even at midnight, there were still people patrolling the camp, but most folks were already asleep.

Especially the building that was said to be "restricted area", which had a ton of guards around it.

After the major factions gathered here, the Snowfall Cult beefed up the defenses around that place.

Clearly, it was hiding something big.

Their snowmobile was parked in front of the building Steven had his eye on.

After figuring out the distance, Steven opened the Double Dimension Door and zipped from the snowmobile to inside the building.

He put on his tactical goggles and checked out the scene in the opposite building.

It was pitch black inside, and every window was sealed with something, totally blocking the view, like a concrete coffin.

"What the heck is hidden here?" Steven's curiosity was through the roof.

After thinking for a bit, Steven decided to use the Double Dimension Door to jump to the upper floors of the building.

Having been watching the building all day, he figured even if there were guards inside, they wouldn't be on the upper floors.

He saw people coming in and out, but they didn't stick around long and pushed a few carts out.

Steven guessed this place might be their warehouse.

A wicked grin spread across Steven's face. Since he found something interesting, he had to check it out.

The distance between the two buildings was less than 1,000 feet, so Steven jumped right over.

The next moment, he walked out from another door and appeared in a room inside the abandoned building.

The darkness didn't bother him; the night vision on his tactical goggles was top-notch.

Steven looked around, and his eyes widened in surprise as soon as he spotted the plant vines and leaves that filled the room, even covering the floor.

"Plants? Are they mutated?" Steven muttered in suprise.

The room looked like an office, with busted desks and chairs and a floor littered with documents.

All the windows had been blocked, which was why people couldn't seen inside.

A wild thought popped into Steven's head—Maybe the main body of this plant was as big as the entire building!

"So this it the secret Snowfall Cult has been hiding?" Steven wondered. "But what's this plant for? Food? Or does it have some other purpose?"

It was the first time he'd seen such a huge and weird plant.

But thinking about how cats and dogs could grow huge, plants with unlimited growth potential could too.

Steven was ready to bolt at any moment.

With the Double Dimension Door skill, nothing could stop him from escaping.

But since he was already here, he had to get to the bottom of it!

He had a gut feeling this was a huge secret, and now he had a great opportunity to uncover it.
