Chapter 360 The Chain Reaction of Psychic's Disappearance

Megan waited for over ten minutes before losing her patience and pressing the detonation button in her hand.

Then, Byron took out his communicator and asked the soldiers tracking them about the results.

"One detonated successfully, the other was a dud," the soldier reported truthfully. He looked at the escaping slave and raised his gun. "Deputy Commander, should we execute him?"

Byron looked at Megan and asked, "Leader?"

Megan squinted her eyes. "How can the stuff from the tech department be so ba? When their technology reaches even half of West Mountain Base's, I'll be satisfied."

She waved her hand and said, "I keep my word. Let that slave go! Hope he's lucky enough to make it to Snowfall Cult's territory. But as for the people in the tech department responsible for this project, lock them up for three days!"

Byron nodded. "Yes!"

He gave the order to the tracking soldiers, ultimately letting the surviving slave go.

Megan's beautiful eyebrows were furrowed, clearly in a bad mood.

Byron comforted her, "Leader, our tech personnel are not as good as West Mountain Base's, but that's a fact. In terms of weapon development, all the professionals are in the military. When the apocalypse first hit, the talent was snatched away by them. We can only select talent from nearby universities and research institutes."

Megan glanced at him, her eyes still cold. "We've put in so much effort for these damn slaves! If they didn't always think about escaping, why would I spend so much effort on them? That hypocritical woman from Snowfall Cult just uses them as bait. Do they really think there's a saint in the apocalypse?"

Snowfall Cult was currently the only one of the four major forces not based on an official shelter. But it was the organization with the most people.

Because compared to other forces that rule by force, their method was to inspire through religious faith.

Rumor had it that the leader of Snowfall Cult had miraculous powers.

She could heal all of a person's pain, whether physical or mental.

The most crucial part was that everyone there was equal, and everyone could get food and shelter. There was no discrimination or oppression.

Such rumors had been circulating among the major forces in Starlight City for some time, which had led to a continuous loss of civilians from Emberwick Base.

But in the apocalypse, people were also an important resource. Without a large population, how could you engage in labor? How could you form an army to seize territory and resources from other forces?

So Megan couldn't just sit back and do nothing about this situation.

And her method was strong suppression!

Every civilian in Emberwick Base had been branded by her.

So even if they escaped, they could be recognized and easily recaptured.

And if Snowfall Cult dared to take in slaves with the flame brand, they must risk going to war with Emberwick Base!

But even so, the Snowfall Cult continued to take in the fleeing slaves. This led to the most tense relationship between Emberwick Base and the Snowfall Cult.

Unlike West Mountain Base, which was entirely underground, not worried about civilians escaping, Emberwick Base's slaves had to work in the refinery on the surface.

No matter how tightly they sealed it, there would always be people willing to risk their lives for freedom.

Megan turned and walked out of the factory.

Byron quickly followed behind her, saying, "As long as we can carve out a chunk of territory from West Mountain Base, we can alleviate the current pressure. After all, in the apocalypse, the root of all problems is the scarcity of resources."

Megan waved her hand and said, "But to occupy Eternal River District and West Mountain District, we must stabilize things at home. Have the tech department speed up their research; they must stabilize the functionality of these explosive collars. Safety can be ignored for now, but they must ensure they can explode!"

Byron nodded, keeping Megan's instructions in mind.

Suddenly, Megan stopped and asked, "How many of the scouting teams sent out in recent days have returned?"

Byron replied, "Most have returned, and even those who haven't have reported back to us."

He paused and said, "Except for Christian's team. They haven't returned, nor have we received any reports."

Hearing it was Christian, Megan couldn't help but frown.

Christian was her cousin, once the captain of the Starlight City SWAT team.

But this cousin had a rebellious nature; he feared no one in Emberwick Base except Megan.

"Christian, that guy, still in his rebellious phase at his age!" Megan said.

At first, Megan didn't care about Christian's disappearance. Given his personality, it wasn't unusual for him to act without a plan.

After the apocalypse, many people became strange inside, including herself.

But suddenly, a strange feeling flashed through her mind. She felt things weren't that simple.

Megan looked at Byron and asked, "He shouldn't be in any danger, right?"

Byron adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses at her words and replied, "Currently, the five major forces in Starlight City—if we include the uncertain status of West Mountain Base, have a very delicate relationship. No one dares to start a war lightly. Even with those Snowfall Cult bastards recruiting everywhere, we don't want a major conflict. So even if Christian encountered people from other forces, they should show respect. Unless..."

A cold light flashed under Byron's glasses as he continued, "They are competing for some particularly precious resource! Only then might they attack!"

Megan's eyes narrowed. "The major resource points in Starlight City are occupied by our major forces. The remaining resources are important, but not enough to trigger a full-scale conflict. Silverlake Base won't attack us, and Frostwood Base's style is 'if people don't offend me, I won't offend them.' I don't care about the other forces. So, only Snowfall Cult is the most unstable."

After some thought, Megan cautiously said to Byron, "Keep trying to contact Christian! We must get in touch with him. If we really can't contact him, he's probably dead."

Byron's expression also became grim. No force could bear the cost of a Psychic's death. So if Christian was dead, it meant one force was willing to go to war with them.

This would have a huge impact on the entire Emberwick Base, and even the entire Starlight City.
