Chapter 425 Eerie
No one expected that those seemingly slow and numb zombies would suddenly change.
They burst out with astonishing speed, surrounding Henry and Lily in an instant!
Steven didn't even have time to react before the zombies overwhelmed the two, their roars sending chills down his spine!
"Holy crap!"
Henry's voice came through, filled with anger and surprise. He swung his entrenching tool, sending a dozen zombies flying and cutting three in half!
These zombies were stiff and incredibly tough, nothing like the easily destroyed, rotting zombies from TV.
Fortunately, Henry and Lily were Strengthening System Psychics with formidable close combat abilities. Even surrounded by thousands of zombies, they could still effectively fight back.
Lily wielded a broadsword, its blade slicing through the air like cold moonlight.
The zombie bodies, as hard as steel, were cleanly severed!
But the efficiency of these kills was too low, and there were just too many zombies.
If this continued, once they exhausted their strength, they would surely be eaten alive by the zombies!
No one expected this turn of events.
Just seconds ago, Steven and the others still thought of zombies as the slow-moving, easily destroyed creatures from TV, which even a child could kill with a stick. Clearly, these were entirely different!
They were stronger, fiercer, faster, and harder to kill!
Even headshots didn't stop them—how the hell were they supposed to be killed?
Steven looked at the dismembered bodies on the ground, still struggling to crawl towards Henry and Lily, and felt his scalp tingle.
"What the hell are these things, why won't they die!"
Earl and Aubrey were also pale with fear, quickly firing their guns to try and kill more zombies and rescue Henry and Lily.
But this only drew the zombies' attention.
A wave of the massive zombie horde broke off and charged at Steven and the others with roars!
Steven remained calm. Since headshots couldn't kill these zombies, guns were useless.
He put away his pistol and drew a rectangle in the air with his hands.
A giant Dimension Door appeared in front of the three of them.
The zombies charged at incredible speed, like past sprint champions.
But before they could come near, they would disappear into the Dimension Door one by one.
Earl and Aubrey finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness for the Captain's Dimension Door. We can use this to deal with these brainless zombies!"
But just as Earl finished speaking, the zombies suddenly stopped in front of the Dimension Door.
"Huh?" Steven frowned, sensing something was off.
Zombies were reanimated corpses and shouldn't have intelligence.
But they could sense danger and stop, which made no sense!
There were only two possibilities.
First, they weren't dead but were another type of intelligent creature.
Second, someone was controlling these zombies from the shadows!
Clearly, the second possibility was more likely.
"Could there be some psychic out there controlling these things? Like last time when those soldiers' bodies just vanished into thin air. If that's the case, it all adds up!" Steven muttered under his breath.
If that's the deal, all they'd need to do is take out the puppet master in the crowd to end this mess.
But staring at the sea of zombies—thousands of them—Steven felt a migraine coming on.
Finding the controller among so many zombies was like finding a needle in a haystack!
So, Steven decided to use a simpler method to handle this.
He gestured with his right hand, and a heavy tank appeared in the snow, sinking into the ground.
"Henry, Lily, listen to my command. When I count to 3, jump with all your might!" Steven said as he climbed into the tank and began loading shells.
He wasn't great at driving this thing, but he had learned how to fire it from Henry.
Henry and Lily immediately understood what Steven was planning. "Got it!"
Steven loaded the shell and started counting down. "3, 2, 1!"
As soon as he finished counting, Henry and Lily fought off the surrounding zombies and leaped into the air with all their strength!
Both were Strengthening System Psychics with incredible physical abilities, jumping 50 feet high!
The tank's cannon roared with a deafening boom!
A shell exploded in the horde, sending hundreds of zombies flying, limbs scattering!
The horde was blown apart, giving Lily and Henry a chance to retreat towards the shelter.
The horde pursued relentlessly, their speed terrifying, almost catching up.
But driven by their instinct to hunt living beings, they gathered together, right in front of the cannon.
Steven loaded another shell and fired again!
This shot sent hundreds more zombies flying!
However, many zombies still came from the sides.
Aubrey was so scared his legs went weak.
Luckily, Lily and Henry were in front, dealing with the remaining zombies.
But cutting off their heads didn't stop them.
So Lily and Henry either destroyed their torsos or severed their legs.
Steven opened the tank hatch and stepped out.
He silently retrieved a strange-looking device from the extradimensional space, two large metal canisters connected to a long tube.
This was a flamethrower, which Steven had never used since capturing it from West Mountain Base.
Although it was clunky and had a short reach, against these unstoppable zombies—it was very effective.
Steven lay on the ground, fixed the flamethrower, and a stream of fire shot out dozens of feet!
Even in the cold, the flamethrower's heat made the zombies feel the burn.
Their clothes ignited, and their bodies burned fiercely.
Since they were clustered together, the flames spread effectively.
Once they caught fire, they started flailing like mad, limbs jerking all over the place, letting out these eerie howls.
Just as everyone was bracing for an all-out fight, the zombies turned and ran!
