Chapter 455 A Test of Strength
Steven grinned at Otha and said, "Right now, I'm just keeping things steady in the West Mountain District and Eternal River District."
"So, based on what you're saying, if we keep things stable around here, can we get a bit more freedom?"
Steven added smoothly, "Of course, we're more than happy to work with the investigation team. If you need anything from us, just holler. As long as it's within our power, we'll help out."
"But for now, we really need to focus on our own turf. You know, we've got the smallest crew, and it's tough to spare people for other areas."
Steven spoke calmly, keeping things respectful for Otha.
Otha stared at Steven for a while before saying, "You've done a great job, which shows your team has some serious smarts and strength. I hope you can spare a hand with our future operations."
Steven smiled, thought for a couple of seconds, and then said to Otha, "If you need anything, just let me know."
He still had to show respect to the Silvercrest District.
Plus, Steven didn't want Starlight City to be completely wrecked.
As long as it didn't mess with his own interests, he was willing to help Otha deal with the zombie and rat swarms.
Otha nodded. "Thanks in advance."
From that moment, everyone knew Steven had become a special figure in Starlight City.
Other forces couldn't handle their problems alone and had to turn to Otha and the Silvercrest District for help, while Steven became an ally to assist Otha.
The difference in their status was clear.
"Alright then," Otha placed his hands on the table, "from now on, I need everyone to cooperate with our actions unconditionally!"
"First, share all the information you have!"
"And right now, no matter what grudges you had before, you need to put them aside! Any fight shall wait until we deal with those zombies!"
Steven had a relaxed smile on his face.
He was the most at ease, with his own strength intact and the zombie problem in his territory sorted out.
Even if there was a fight, he wasn't worried about anyone!
But the others weren't so relaxed. They were busy dealing with their own issues and had no time for anything else.
So they silently agreed that until the zombie problem was solved, they would temporarily join forces.
"Next, let's talk about how to solve the crisis of zombies and mutant giant rats!" Neil said with a frown.
In this crisis, their Snowfall Cult had taken the biggest hit.
So far, they'd lost at least four or five thousand followers, either eaten or infected.
If this kept up, the foundation of their Snowfall Cult would be gone!
At that moment, a commotion suddenly came from outside, drawing everyone's attention.
Leonard frowned deeply because he heard Oliver's voice.
He walked to the window, flicked his finger, and the frost on the glass instantly disappeared.
Then he saw what was going on outside clearly.
For some reason, Oliver was facing off with the investigation team, and the atmosphere was tense.
"What is this guy up to?" Leonard's face shifted, and he instinctively glanced at Otha, who was sitting nearby.
Otha caught Leonard's look, turned his head, and asked, "What's up?"
"Nothing, just a minor scuffle among our guys," Sebastian suddenly chimed in with a grin.
Otha replied coolly, "Let them sort it out themselves. We've got bigger fish to fry."
Otha had no intention of getting up.
Steven thought to himself, 'Seems like he's got a lot of faith in his crew's abilities.'
Everyone had no choice but to return to the table and continue their discussion.
Meanwhile, outside the SC Central Building, Oliver, looking pissed, said to Lanny and Daron, "So what if you're from the Silvercrest District? Big deal! I used to be in the Navy."
"If you've got the guts, come fight me! And don't whine if you lose!"
Oliver had been holding back his temper for a while!
He came from a prominent family and was part of Starlight City's elite before the apocalypse.
After joining the Navy, he climbed the ranks quickly.
When the apocalypse hit, he awakened a Supernatural ability and became the second in command at Silverlake Base.
But the investigation team from the Silvercrest District treated him like he was nothing.
Oliver couldn't stand being looked down on!
Lanny and Daron stood on the steps at the entrance, looking down at the furious Oliver.
The smirks on their faces grew wider, showing they didn't care about him at all.
Lanny, with his hands in his pockets, said to Daron with a smile, "Look, he's mad!"
Daron sneered, "What else can a useless guy do but get mad?"
Lanny said, "But he challenged us. If we don't accept, won't it look like we're scared of him?"
Daron nodded. "I don't like being looked down on either. I don't mind, but we can't let these small-town folks think our Silvercrest District is as insignificant as they are!"
Lanny and Daron's conversation belittled the various forces in Starlight City.
And they didn't even consider Oliver, the second in command at Silverlake Base, worth their attention.
"You're too arrogant! We're all Psychics; you're not necessarily stronger!" Oliver pointed at Lanny and Daron and shouted.
Daron squinted his eyes and slowly walked down the steps.
"Fine, I'll show you the strength of a Psychic from the Silvercrest District."
As the fight was about to start, people from various forces gathered around and watched the two on the field intently.
They all wanted to see how strong these people from the Silvercrest District really were.
Oliver, seeing Daron walking towards him, secretly laughed.
He chose to provoke Daron because he had already judged from Daron's movements that he was a Strengthening System ability user.
The Strengthening System was the most common and simplest of the six Supernatural ability systems.
All Strengthening System Psychics had mutations based on physical abilities, making them extremely powerful in close combat.
And Oliver's ability was the Trait system's "Rubber," making him immune to all physical attacks unless they exceeded his defense threshold.
And that threshold would likely require a direct hit from artillery to reach.
