Chapter 357 The Defense Line

Steven and Aubrey set off on their way back to Emerald Estate.

By now, Steven had realized that other factions had begun invading the former territory of West Mountain Base.

It was no surprise to him that he saw Christian at the materials factory.

If nothing unexpected happened, he would also find people from several major factions at other important resource points in West Mountain District and Eternal River District.

And since Steven had consecutively killed people from Silverlake Base and Emberwick Base, it meant that war was about to begin.

The only difference was when they would find out that Steven was the one who made the move and come to attack.

"In the limited time we have, we must make all necessary preparations," Steven said to Aubrey on the way back. "Don't tell anyone at the base about our encounter with people from Emberwick Base today."

Aubrey was taken aback for a moment, then asked curiously, "Why? If we don't let them know that danger is approaching, how will they be prepared?"

"This is something only I need to know," Steven said seriously. "I will make sure they speed up the construction of the defense line and not leave the shelter area casually. But for now, we can't let them know. I don't want to cause panic, understand? Aubrey."

"When I think it's time for them to know, I will tell them." Steven looked into Aubrey's eyes, his tone calm but with an undeniable force in his gaze.

Aubrey was silent for less than a second before nodding vigorously.

Although she didn't know what Steven's purpose was, she supported Steven completely and agreed with whatever he decided to do.

"I understand. After all, you're doing this for their sake, right?" Aubrey said sweetly.

Steven smiled and reached out to ruffle Aubrey's short hair. "I'm doing this for you and them!"

This particular emphasis on Aubrey made her heart race.

Yes, when had Steven ever harmed Aubrey? As long as Steven gave an order, she would strictly follow it.

As Steven drove, a strange glint flashed in his eyes.

The reason for not telling everyone this news was to keep it from Lily.

Steven planned to use the power of the two major factions to deal with those students from Cox Town.

So he had to make Lily believe that the danger wouldn't come anytime soon.

For safety reasons, the best method was to keep everyone in the dark about the conflict that had already begun.

When Steven and Aubrey returned to the shelter, they saw from a distance that the tall ice wall had already been built more than halfway.

With a thickness of 33 feet, it was constructed using two layers of giant ice blocks. Combined with the steel framework inside, it was hard to imagine anything that could quickly destroy it.

Moreover, this was just the defensive measure.

While building the ice wall, Lily and Henry had also carved holes in the ice and made shooting ports with steel plates.

Later, they could place the captured guns, heavy machine guns, and vehicles, artillery, and tanks on it, forming a dense attack line.

Steven and Aubrey got out of the car, and Steven's face returned to a gentle smile as he walked over.

Seeing this, Henry and Lily asked, "How did it go? Was the material collection smooth? Did you encounter any suspicious people?"

Steven smiled faintly. "Very smooth, we didn't encounter any obstacles along the way. I told you, other factions need time to deal with their own situations. They don't have time to come and seize resources here."

Aubrey said nothing, following behind Steven.

Steven saw that Lily's face clearly showed a relaxed expression. "That's great! Otherwise, I really wouldn't know what to do," Lily said.

She was, of course, referring to the issue of accommodating the students.

But this time, Steven uncharacteristically said, "Your concern is not without reason. Although I think there won't be any danger for now, it's always good to be prepared."

As Steven spoke, he glanced at Aubrey beside him, then suddenly leaned in close to Lily and whispered, "But Lily, I don't mind letting your students move in when danger comes, but I really can't change Cindy and Aubrey's minds. After all, the conflicts between them in the past can't be resolved in a day or two. Letting them live in the same place would be too unfair to Cindy and Aubrey."

Steven had to change his story, because he knew that the crisis in Cox Town was imminent.

If he kept promoting the idea of safety and saying there would be no danger, Lily might blame him in the future.

So, it was better to shift the focus of the conflict to the students from Cox Town and Cindy and Aubrey.

They were all Lily's students; which side could she favor?

Sure enough, hearing Steven's analysis, Lily hesitated.

In her heart, she felt much closer to Cindy and Aubrey. After all, they were good students, and the three of them had been getting along very well recently. Unlike those guys from Cox Town, who only ever caused her trouble.

"You're right; your idea makes sense, but..." Lily hesitated.

At this moment, Aubrey, standing behind Steven, saw the gesture Steven secretly made to her.

The cute and innocent Aubrey remembered the plan Steven had mentioned. Now it was her turn to perform!

Aubrey stepped forward, looking at Lily with a face full of grievance. "Ms. Evans, why do they have to move nearby? Cindy and I will think of the time at Innovation Academy whenever we see them. Do you know how cruel they were to us back then?"

Seeing Aubrey's aggrieved expression, Lily couldn't help but feel a bit guilty.

She had actually known about the cliques and exclusion among the students back then. But at that time, she was overwhelmed with dealing with Fluffy's threat, so she couldn't take care of those things.

Thinking back now, she indeed hadn't taken good care of Cindy and Aubrey.

Now she could enter the shelter thanks to Cindy and Aubrey's help.

Plus, their daily interactions had definitely made her closer to them than to the other students.

So, hearing Aubrey's complaint, Lily couldn't help but feel conflicted.

"I don't want to do this either. If they could survive on their own in the apocalypse, that would be best. But now there are clearly external factors at play! If they get hurt in front of me, I won't be able to forgive myself," said Lily.
