Chapter 169 You Dare to Rob Me

Steven rode his snowmobile, taking Emilia all the way to Sunshine Community.

He drove along the riverbank, and the Mississippi River, covered in ice and snow, had a majestic feel to it.

However, compared to the ground, the snow on the ice was significantly less.

The Mississippi River connected to the Gulf of Mexico, and because water had a high specific heat capacity, its temperature changed more slowly.

He could even see people fishing on the ice!

Steven looked at these scenes and felt a rare sense of human vitality.

But just then, a sudden thought struck him.

'Fishermen? Have they really adapted to this extreme cold?' Steven found it hard to believe.

In the month he had lived in Sunshine Community, he had seen firsthand how miserable those people were.

But on the other side of the Mississippi River, in Cox Town, the villagers had already adapted to the cold.

But it wasn't surprising. Farmers worked the land all year round, and no matter how cold it got, they had to get up early to work.

Their ability to adapt to the environment far exceeded that of city dwellers spoiled by air conditioning and heating.

"Human adaptability is truly terrifying!" Steven said to himself.

"If it were me, I wouldn't know how to survive the winter without air conditioning and heating." He sighed.

But before he could sigh for long, a terrifying barking suddenly came from the ice not far ahead.

Emilia screamed and pointed to the river, "There are dogs!"

Steven had already seen them.

Seven or eight vicious dogs were barking madly and charging towards them.

Behind were two makeshift sleds with four people standing on them.

Steven's eyes grew deep.

He knew he was in trouble again, not immediate trouble but future trouble.

In his original plan, city dwellers would quickly perish in the snow disaster. While he, along with a few others hiding in shelters, could survive until the end.

But he hadn't expected that the rural areas outside the city had already begun to adapt to life in the severe cold.

These individuals, driven by desperation, posed a potential threat to his possessions and well-being. His snowmobile, in particular, could become a targeted object of desire for those struggling to survive.

"Hold on tight!" Steven twisted the throttle, speeding up. He didn't want to clash with these people.

After all, provoking one person could lead to trouble with an entire village.

Steven sped along, while on the ice, the eight dogs were chasing with their tongues out.

Seeing Steven, their eyes turned red, and their wild gaze was chilling.

Dogs were originally domesticated wolves, and in the apocalypse, they had gone through many life-and-death battles, even eating human flesh when they were starving.

These dogs that had eaten human flesh had blood-red eyes and were extremely ferocious.

Steven's snowmobile was fast, but the sleds on the ice were not slow either.

Since the villagers from Cox Village had come to intercept him in advance, Steven couldn't avoid them.

On the sled, a fisherman picked up his harpoon and threw it at Steven!

"Fuck!" Steven cursed. If that harpoon hit his arm, it would take at least half a pound of flesh!

He quickly turned the snowmobile, braking sharply to stop the vehicle.

Emilia wasn't holding on tight and was thrown out, landing in the snow.

The once-famous actress was so scared she cried out, sitting in the snow without the courage to get up.

By this time, the two sleds had blocked Steven's path.

Steven found himself facing a pack of frenzied sled dogs, their mouths foaming and bloodstained as they snapped and snarled. Their wild eyes and savage demeanor transformed them into creatures reminiscent more of starving wolves than domesticated dogs.

Steven felt a chill run down his spine.

He wasn't afraid of these men, but he was worried about these maniacs.

Men would be scared, but dogs wouldn't.

The four men on the sleds, holding weapons, approached with their dogs.

"Leave the vehicle and the woman, and you can go!" one man, holding a machete, shouted at Steven.

Steven looked at them coldly, taking in the positions of each person and dog.

Then, he quickly drew his handgun, aiming at them.

"Back off, guys. I'm not looking for a fight, but if you cross me, you're going to regret it!"

The dark muzzle of the gun was more intimidating than words.

Seeing the gun, the men instinctively stepped back.

Steven gestured with the gun, "Can you make way?"

The four villagers from Cox Village looked at each other, the malice in their eyes undiminished.

In the apocalypse, their hands were stained with blood, and they wouldn't be easily scared.

But they didn't want to die in vain either.

A young man with a rogue look asked, "Buddy, where did you get your vehicle and gun?"

Steven sneered. "Inherited."

The men, holding their dogs, exchanged glances, seemingly debating whether to retreat.

But when their eyes fell on the snowmobile and Emilia's face, a strong greed appeared.

A snowmobile was a top-notch means of transportation now, far better than dogs!

And as for Emilia, they needed her, too.

After they solved the food problem, another primal desire began to take over their minds.

There were women in the village, but how could those village women compare to a well-maintained star like Emilia?

The rogue-looking man, named Noah Cox, put his hands in his pockets and said to Steven, "Buddy, this is Cox Village territory! You can leave, but we need a toll."

He pointed to the snowmobile and Emilia. "Leave either the vehicle or the woman!"

Steven didn't expect these people to be so greedy. Did they think his gun was just for show?

He frowned and sneered. "Can't you see I have a gun?"

The four men looked at each other. Though they were wary, they didn't back down.

They had survived this long and dared to come out with dogs; none of them were weak.

They had fought countless times with neighboring villages for food and were very bold.

Another man, a skinny guy wearing a felt hat, pointed at Steven and cursed, "Fuck, who are you trying to scare? There are four of us and eight dogs. How many bullets do you have?"

"Leave the woman and the vehicle, and we'll let you go! Otherwise, try your luck!" he shouted.

Steven's eyes grew colder.

In his peripheral vision, he saw more people coming from the river.

The river here was less than 330 feet wide, and the other side was Cox Town.

If their people arrived, they would quickly surround Steven.

At that point, Steven could protect himself, but the crazed dogs might tear Emilia apart.

He took a deep breath. 'You forced me into this!'

There was no need to talk anymore. A handgun slid into Steven's left hand.

He suddenly fired, shooting four bullets at the heads of the four men!

They didn't even have time to struggle, their heads bursting with blood as they fell to the ground.

Without anyone holding them back, the eight dogs charged at Steven and Emilia, barking furiously!
