Chapter 354 Invasion

"Don't worry, I hate those guys too. I won't let them disturb our peaceful life! Let those bastards live across the river. With their survival skills, it's only a matter of time before they starve or freeze to death. And who knows, maybe one day we'll have a conflict with other forces, and they'll accidentally get caught in the crossfire!" Steven shrugged. "Of course, I promised Lily I wouldn't touch them, so let's see if they have any luck."

Aubrey was pleased to know Steven's stance. But she leaned in with some concern and said, "Ms. Evans is a very soft-hearted woman! What if they get into trouble and Ms. Evans brings them to the shelter?"

Steven laughed indifferently and replied, "It's the apocalypse now, human life is cheap, and it's normal for anyone to die. Although I promised Lily I would do my best to protect those students. But if I can't, she should understand."

At this point, Steven suddenly reached out and pinched Aubrey's nose. He said, "Then it will depend on how you and Cindy perform. Ms. Evans loves her students. If my words don't work, you guys will need to try harder."

Aubrey's face was small, and her nose was tiny, making it feel quite nice to pinch.

Aubrey's cheeks flushed. "I get what you mean. You want me and Cindy to brainwash Ms. Evans, right?"

A playful glint flashed in Steven's eyes.

Lily, a stubborn woman, sought spiritual solace in the apocalypse, needing to protect others to find her sense of existence. And this spiritual solace was placed on her students.

Perhaps she didn't love her students that much. She just wanted to prove her existence was meaningful and that she was needed.

"Compared to those students from Cox Town, you and Cindy are undoubtedly more favored by Lily. So you know how to please Lily and make her love you more, right?"  Steven said.

Aubrey understood Steven's meaning. Girls were always good at acting cute, no matter their age.

Outside the car, the wind and snow continued. It was February, and the temperature had risen slightly but was still deadly cold.

Aubrey looked at the desolate white land outside the window and couldn't help but sigh. "The shelter is heaven, and outside is hell!"

"It would be even better if no one came to bother us," she muttered.

Steven blinked, thinking about the four major forces, feeling a bit worried.

"Hopefully, we won't have any conflicts with them before the shelter's defense project is completed!" he said.

He had already killed people from Silverlake Base. This couldn't be hidden because people from Snowfall Cult had seen it.

He just hoped the conflict would come later.

'As long as I'm well-prepared, I won't be afraid even if two Silverlake Bases attack together!' Steven thought confidently.

After eliminating West Mountain Base and acquiring all their stockpiled weapons, Steven's strength was no longer the same.

But as the saying goes, "What you fear will come."

Steven was now trying to avoid contact with other forces. But when he drove to the Horizon Group factory, he saw three cars parked in the snow from a distance.

"Cars?" Steven's first reaction was to park his car far away.

Then he took out binoculars and looked in that direction.

What he saw surprised him.

Those three vehicles weren't snowmobiles but modified off-road vehicles turned into war machines.

Besides adding steel plates and machine guns to the body, they also had tracks and skis.

But the steel plates didn't look thick, seemingly to reduce weight.

"Can these things even move?" Steven was puzzled.

Aubrey curiously leaned over and asked, "Steven, what did you see?"

Steven handed her the binoculars to let her see for herself.

After a glance, Aubrey couldn't help but say, "What kind of thing is this? It's so messy it makes you want to gouge your eyes out!"

Steven leaned back in his seat, with a Dimension Door already open in front to prevent any sneak attacks.

Steven sighed. "I still underestimated their efficiency. These guys have already invaded West Mountain Base's territory from the border."

The fall of West Mountain Base had been discovered by other forces. They must want to carve up this territory. And within the Eternal River District, the most valuable things were some material factories and mechanical equipment plants.

Steven hesitated. He didn't want to have any conflicts with other forces now. But he urgently needed to repair the shelter.

So, he had to go and find the materials he needed.

"Kill them?" Steven was conflicted.

He didn't know who these people were or their strength. Acting rashly wasn't his style.

But Aubrey excitedly said, "Steven, these people's modifications are so inefficient! Although it barely allows them to drive in the snow, their top speed can't exceed 12 miles per hour. And their modifications are so rough that their fuel consumption is several times that of a snowmobile. Considering that, they must be really wealthy to deploy three at once!"

A light bulb went off in Steven's mind as he suddenly thought of something. "Wait! You said these vehicles consume a lot of fuel?" he asked.

Aubrey put down the binoculars with a disdainful look. "Yeah, these off-road vehicles are much heavier than snowmobiles. And with the added weight from modifications, their fuel consumption is at least five times that of our car!"

A shrewd look flashed in Steven's eyes. "West Mountain Base was reluctant to use snowmobiles because gasoline was hard to come by. But these guys are so extravagant, only one force could do that!"

Among the four major forces, the one controlling the Stellar Refinery in Starlight City was Emberwick Base!

"It's them? Emberwick Base is almost 124 miles away, across Starlight City. I didn't expect them to come over; they're really eager!" Aubrey said. "But they control the refinery, so they have plenty of energy and can afford to be wasteful."

Steven confirmed their identity and knew what to do. Since he was already here, he couldn't go back empty-handed.

He planned to talk to these people, and if he could peacefully get the materials he needed, that would be best. If he couldn't persuade them, he would have to use force!

"Aubrey, there might be a conflict soon. Be prepared!" Steven said.

He looked coldly ahead and drove the snowmobile forward.

Aubrey swallowed, her eyes filled with excitement.

To be honest, she was thrilled! This might be the first time she would see Steven in action!
