Chapter 293 The Furious Charles

Earl stopped outside Julia's place, feeling a mix of nerves and urgency.

He needed to warn her about how dangerous Cox Town had become. The special forces were on a rampage, and no one knew what they'd do next.

He wanted to get Julia out of there, but then it hit him—he hadn't asked Steven if he could bring anyone along.

Even if he could, how many people could he actually take?

If he only took Julia, what about her family?

As Earl wrestled with these thoughts, he overheard voices coming from inside the igloo.

"Mom, so many people have died outside. Are we gonna be okay?" Julia asked.

"What could happen to us? Didn't you see it was their own people killing each other?" Elise, Julia's mom, replied.

"This has nothing to do with us. They are rational! We've been treating them well, so nothing will happen to us," another voice chimed in.

"That's true. Maybe I should go find that fat guy. If I say a few nice words, he'll definitely protect us!" Julia's voice added.

Elise said, "Exactly. Earl may be a bit dumb, but he's capable and can keep our family safe. Julia, why don't you marry him?"

"What??" Julia's voice suddenly became sharp. "Mom, what nonsense are you talking about? He's fat and ugly. If it weren't for you guys persuading me to cozy up to him, I wouldn't even bother talking to him."

Outside the igloo, Earl felt like his heart was being ripped apart.

Was that really how Julia saw him?

So, he wasn't the hero in her eyes after all.

The conversation inside continued.

"You don't understand. Even though he's not much, he can keep our family alive now," Elise kept pushing.

"Forget it. If I had to share a bed with him, I'd have nightmares every night," Julia mocked. "Looking at that greasy fat face, I'd be sick to my stomach!"

"But if you don't please him, how can we get him to protect us?" Elise asked.

"Don't worry, Mom. That fool is really gullible. As long as I show him a little kindness, he'll be over the moon," Julia said. "Otaku are the easiest to deal with. Their heads are full of fantasies. As long as a woman is a little nice to them, they'll give you their heart."

Outside, Earl's heart turned cold. All the beautiful fantasies he had were shattered in that moment.

It was then that the people inside noticed Earl standing there.

Elise looked a bit embarrassed. "Uh... Earl is here! Come in and sit for a while!"

Julia also saw Earl, her expression changed slightly, but seeing that the situation was exposed, she didn't bother to pretend anymore and instead looked proud.

Earl forced a smile and said, "Nah, I just need to talk to Julia for a sec. Can you ask her to come out?"

Elise nudged Julia, and she finally stepped out of the igloo.

She tidied her hair and put on a sweet smile, trying to make sure Earl would still protect her and her family.

"Earl, when did you get here?" Julia asked.

"Just now," Earl replied.

He looked at the girl in front of him, her sweet smile making him feel a bit dazed. He couldn't believe those venomous words had come from her mouth.

"Earl, what do you need to talk to me about?" Julia asked.

Earl's lips felt bitter, but he didn't turn away in anger. After all, a fool in love doesn't easily give up his fantasies.

"Julia, come with me! The village isn't safe. So many people have died, and we might face even greater danger," Earl urged.

Julia listened and then smiled faintly. "Earl, where would we go if we left the village?"

Earl didn't mention that he was planning to find Steven. He said, "If you trust me, I'll take you away. Don't worry, as long as I'm here, I can protect you!"

With his abilities, he could find a supermarket buried in snow to live in. Supplies and shelter would be easy to find. Even if they didn't go to Steven, he could survive. The world of ice and snow was his world.

Julia was silent for a few seconds. Then she smiled apologetically. "Sorry, Earl! Isn't this a bit too risky? This isn't a romance drama. Why make it seem like we're eloping?"

The gentle smile on her face and the pity in her eyes deeply hurt Earl's heart. It was like an adult woman comforting an inexperienced virgin. It was a condescending look.

At this moment, Earl still refused to give up and continued to explain, "But so many soldiers have died in the village. What do you think those people will do when they come back?"

Julia thought for a moment and said indifferently, "This has nothing to do with us, right? It shouldn't affect us."

"Besides," she suddenly stepped forward, smiling as she held Earl's hand and looked into his eyes pitifully, "even if we face danger, you'll protect us, right?"

Earl's body stiffened. He didn't know what he said or did in the end. He probably just nodded numbly and then watched Julia return to the igloo.

But when he came to his senses, he turned and ran out of the village without hesitation. He had to leave here, find Steven, or hide like an ostrich. Because he was afraid of dying, his sense of danger was particularly sharp.

He was actually Steven's undercover agent and could be discovered at any time.

'Run!'

Running away might be shameful, but it was useful.

'As for Julia... goodbye, Julia!'

Earl called Steven while running. "Captain Rogers, I've made up my mind. I'll go back with you!"

Across the river, Charles, along with several captain-level Psychics and some special forces members, was there, routinely harassing the shelter. They were also supervising the villagers of Cox Town at work.

The sudden burst of gunfire from Cox Town caught everyone's attention.

Both the special forces members and the working villagers instinctively turned to look.

"Why is there gunfire in the village?"

"Could someone be setting off fireworks?"

"How is that possible! Who would be bored enough to set off fireworks at a time like this!"

Charles's face immediately turned serious upon hearing the gunfire.

'Gunfire means something is wrong in Cox Town. But Steven is trapped in the shelter and can't get out, so what is causing the gunfire? Could there be another force nearby that West Mountain hasn't discovered?'

Charles immediately had someone contact the people in Cox Town to find out what was happening.

A team member used a communicator to get in touch with them. However, all the soldiers there had been killed, so no one answered.

The team member reported this to Charles, whose face instantly became extremely grim.

The special forces were highly disciplined; not responding to messages was impossible unless they encountered an irresistible force!

"Let's go back and see what's going on!" Charles said.

Four captain-level Psychics and six cyborg soldiers were there feigning an attack on Steven's shelter. There were more than twenty special forces members left in Cox Town, but if they encountered a powerful Psychic, like a captain-level Psychic, they would be completely powerless!

As a top-level Psychic, Charles was well aware of this.

He ordered Shane Wallace and the others to stay and continue the feigned attack on the shelter to avoid arousing Steven's suspicion. He then took five soldiers and rode a sled back to Cox Town.

But just after crossing the river, they saw a bloody corpse at the village entrance.

The corpse was dismembered, as if crushed by something huge, and was a bloody mess. The ground was stained red with blood, which had frozen into red ice.

Even in death, the person's right hand was reaching toward the other side of the river, as if there was something terrifying in the village.

Charles's eyes instantly became sharp.

"Stay alert!" he ordered the soldiers around him, and everyone raised their guns, cautiously looking around.

But Charles himself strode toward the village.

By this time, Steven had already run far away.

The village roads were littered with the bodies of many soldiers. Blood was splattered everywhere, and the scene was too horrific to look at.

Villagers stood by the roadside, pointing at the bodies and chattering.

Seeing Charles and his men return, they quickly made way.

As Charles walked, his face grew darker, and his eyes filled with bloodshot veins.

Dead, all dead!

These long-time comrades had once again died tragically before his eyes!

Charles had brought fifty people this time, plus a dozen from the rescue team, making over sixty in total.

Last time, twenty-two were killed in the failed explosion outside the shelter.

Now, all the soldiers left in Cox Town were dead, leaving only thirteen people, including the captains, by his side!

Such heavy casualties, and all the elite soldiers of West Mountain Base, how could he explain this to Peter?

Charles walked to the battlefield with the most fallen soldiers, looking at the familiar faces on the ground, and a surge of murderous intent filled his eyes!

He couldn't help but roar, his voice turning into a wave that spread in all directions, causing snow to fly and nearby villagers to fall to the ground. "Who did this? Who killed my buddies!"

Charles's eyes were blood-red, and he moved like a ghost, grabbing an old man by the neck.

"Tell me, who did this!" Charles shouted.

The old man was terrified, stammering and unable to say a complete sentence.

With a squeeze, Charles snapped the old man's head off his neck like it was made of rubber.

The villagers couldn't believe what they were seeing and started screaming and running in panic.

"Don't run! If anyone runs, I'll kill them!" Charles shouted.

Charles's sanity was almost gone after the repeated deaths of his special forces members.

Seeing the villagers screaming like chickens and ducks, he was extremely annoyed.

With a few quick moves, Charles turned seven or eight villagers into a bloody mess.

To vent his emotions, he didn't hold back, and these ordinary people's bodies were even more fragile than mud in his hands.

The villagers of Cox Town never imagined that they would die at the hands of the soldiers they had kindly hosted, even though they had done nothing wrong.
