Chapter 359 Stellar Refinery

In the living room, Elinor sat at the bar counter.

Just now, Steven had called Nora and Emilia over to help Aubrey, but had asked her to stay behind for a while.

She knew she must have some special task.

'Could it be that Steven wants to...' Elinor thought and her face gradually turned a shade of red.

At this moment, Steven walked over and called out, "Elinor!"

Elinor's daydream was interrupted. She coughed awkwardly and quickly stood up. "Steven."

Steven walked over and handed her a vial of dark red liquid. "Do you know what this is?" he asked.

Elinor took it and looked at it under the light, smiling helplessly. "I have no idea. Where did you get this thing?"

Steven rubbed his nose. "Don't worry about that for now. This seems to be a stimulant that can enhance human potential. I need you to analyze its components, see how effective it is, and what side effects it might have."

This stimulant was much better than what Steven and his team had used before.

Steven was a bit excited. If the side effects were minimal, he could use it himself in critical moments. If this drug could be mass-produced, that would be even better!

Of course, that possibility was slim. Elinor was a doctor and could identify drugs but had difficulty manufacturing them.

Elinor was very curious about the drug in her hand. She nodded, asked Steven for some time, and took it to her lab for research.

Steven, on the other hand, left the shelter to help Henry and the others build defenses outside.

In the northern part of Starlight City, Emberwick Base.

In the vast snowy landscape, a massive refinery was spewing thick smoke into the sky through a dozen large pipes.

While the surrounding area's temperature was below -80 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature near the refinery was noticeably higher.

This black steel monster stood in the snowfield like a beast that could breathe fire.

And one of the four major shelters of Starlight City, Emberwick Base, was located here.

As the largest refinery in Starlight City, Stellar Refinery had a storage capacity of up to a million barrels.

After all, Starlight City was an important trade port before the apocalypse, making it easier to obtain crude oil.

Their storage also served as a temporary holding area for crude oil shipped from overseas to other regions. But after the apocalypse, there was no reason to return these resources.

The refinery needed to keep working. Crude oil couldn't be directly used in machines; it needed to be refined into gasoline, diesel, asphalt, lubricants, and other oils.

And these were Emberwick Base's greatest assets.

They had plenty of energy and didn't worry about consumption. They could even trade these refined products with other factions.

At this moment, inside a factory building at Emberwick Base, two raggedly dressed men were tied up with ropes, forced to kneel on the cold ground.

Both had dark red brands on their faces, shaped like a flame emblem.

The two men trembled on the ground, not from the cold, but from the two people looking down at them.

One was a man in a white combat suit, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, with a stern gaze.

The other was a long-haired woman in a red combat suit, standing out among the white suits.

They were Megan Grayson, the leader of Emberwick Base, and her deputy, Byron.

The soldier who had brought the men in reported, "Leader, we killed three of the five who escaped and captured the other two. Please decide their fate!"

The two men on the ground were terrified and quickly begged for mercy.

"I was wrong, please give me another chance!"

"I promise I won't run again, don't kill me!"

Megan looked down at them coldly.

She was a beautiful woman with a cold and stunning appearance, but her eyes felt extremely icy.

Looking at the two men kneeling and begging, it was as if she were looking at two animals.

No, not even animals.

Because if there were still two live animals, they would be more valuable than humans.

Megan, in her red leather boots, slowly walked up to them. She asked coldly, "Why did you try to escape? Although you have to work here, I provide you with food and shelter. Do you want to go outside and die?"

As Megan approached, the men on the ground trembled even more, continuously kowtowing and begging for mercy.

Megan's voice grew even colder. "Now tell me, where were you planning to go when you escaped?"

The two men on the ground instinctively glanced at each other, not daring to speak.

Megan's gaze turned mocking. She said, "Are you planning to go to Snowfall Cult's territory, to join that hypocritical bitch?"

The two men didn't dare to answer, only kowtowing and begging Megan to spare their lives.

This was as good as admitting that Megan was right.

Megan sneered, losing interest in further questioning.

She turned to her deputy, Byron. "Didn't you guys come up with a new gadget recently?"

Byron nodded. "The tech department developed a collar that can be fitted with a micro-bomb. Once we put this on the slaves' necks, we can execute them directly if they try to escape again."

Megan lazily said, "Then let me see how it works."

As soon as she finished speaking, someone immediately brought over a tray with two silver collars on it.

The slaves on the ground were terrified, struggling desperately to escape.

But they were quickly pinned down by the surrounding soldiers, who forcibly put the collars on their necks.

Megan took the remote control and then said to the two slaves with a mocking tone, "Now I'll give you a chance to escape. If the collar doesn't kill you, you can live."

She added, "You can pray! After all, it's a new product; it might not work perfectly."

With that, the soldiers cut the ropes binding the two slaves' hands.

The two slaves looked at the remote in Megan's hand in horror. The explosive collars on their necks were like demons, tightly gripping their lifelines.

They didn't dare to hesitate and quickly turned to run out of the factory.

"As long as we run far enough, the signal won't work!" With this belief, the two men ran desperately.

Megan watched their backs, not in a hurry, and casually asked Byron beside her, "What's the effective range?"

Byron respectfully replied, "3.1 miles. As long as we detect the slaves disappearing, we can detonate it. No slave can escape!"

Megan slowly nodded. "Alright, let's see if this new toy works!"
