Chapter 266 Intelligence
Not just Shawn, but all the warriors were super excited to have Earl join them for food, drinks, and some good conversation.
Earl, with his psychic abilities, was treated like a big deal, almost like a Tiger Special Forces captain at West Mountain Base.
They all figured Earl might be their future leader.
So, everyone wanted to get on his good side.
"Gavin, go grab more food and drinks. We gotta get to know this guy better today!" Shawn said, waving at Gavin.
Gavin looked a bit awkward.
He was pretty annoyed seeing Shawn being all friendly with Earl while giving him, the mayor, the cold shoulder.
But Gavin didn't dare to argue and just nodded with a forced smile.
Earl was surprised by how warmly the soldiers treated him.
After chatting a bit, he got why.
Turns out, folks like him were top training priorities at West Mountain Base.
Shawn said, "Born Psychics have endless potential. Look at our Captain Reed! He started out just like us."
"But once he awakened his Supernatural Ability, his strength shot up. Now, he can take on our whole team without breaking a sweat." Shawn's voice was full of envy.
He gave Earl a friendly pat on the shoulder. "Earl, we're counting on you in the future!"
Earl grinned and said, "Of course, I got you!"
During the lively chat, Earl carefully tried to get some info about West Mountain Base.
Meanwhile, Shawn and the others knew about the beef between Cox Village and Steven but had no clue about Earl's secret dealings with Steven.
So, they just assumed everyone in Cox Village hated Steven.
They didn't doubt Earl and shared some minor info with him.
Shawn said, "That Steven is a tough nut to crack! Our frontline troops weren't ready and took a big hit. But don't worry. West Mountain Base is strong and has plenty of skilled people. Taking down his small shelter is a piece of cake!"
Hearing this, Earl smiled and praised, "Absolutely! You guys are pros; how could an ordinary guy like him stand a chance?"
Shawn nodded. "Yeah, no way an individual can compete with a powerful base."
"It's just a shame that in this freezing weather, a lot of our big weapons are useless. Otherwise, we could flatten his shelter in no time!"
Earl poured Shawn another drink and asked with a grin, "So when's your main force arriving? I can't wait to see Steven get what's coming to him!"
"That Steven is so evil; he killed over a hundred people in our Cox Village. I really want to make him pay!" Earl added.
Shawn swirled his drink and smiled confidently. "Earl, don't worry! His place is too sturdy. Even if we want to blow it up, it'll take some time to prepare."
"So much trouble? Can't you just use more explosives?" Earl asked, curious.
Yosef, sitting next to him, chimed in, "It's not that simple! For a precise demolition, we need to survey the terrain first. Then, we upload the data to professional engineers and demolition experts."
Yosef continued, "They analyze it to figure out the best demolition points and the right amount of explosives for the best effect! Too much or too little, and it messes up the whole thing."
Earl nodded. "Got it! You guys really know your stuff."
He made sure to remember everything they said.
As soon as he finished eating and got back, Earl quickly sent all the info to Steven.
Steven, after hearing the details, started seeing Earl in a new light.
He didn't expect Earl to get this sharp over time.
Was this the power of love? What a load of crap.
"Got it. Thanks for the heads-up. But Earl, have you really not thought about joining West Mountain Base? Sticking with me might not be the best move," Steven said with a smirk.
Earl just smiled calmly. "Captain Rogers, I trust my gut."
Even though he hadn't known Steven for long, Earl felt Steven was at least somewhat straight with him.
But those soldiers from West Mountain Base always made Earl uneasy.
Especially the way they looked at the villagers from Cox Village, like they were livestock. It really rubbed Earl the wrong way.
Earl figured Steven might not be a saint, but at least he was genuine and more reliable than those guys from West Mountain Base.
"You won't regret sticking with me, Earl!" Steven said with a grin.
If Earl ever betrayed him, Steven wouldn't be shocked.
But if Earl chose to trust him and stay loyal, Steven would make sure to treat him well.
"Alright, keep an eye on things. Your info is crucial. Report any changes," Steven instructed.
"Yes, Captain Rogers!"
Steven hung up and started strategizing based on the new info.
He thought to himself, "Demolition is definitely their best shot at taking me down right now."
"West Mountain Base probably has a ton of explosives, enough to flatten ten shelters."
"But in these conditions, they still need people to place the explosives close to the shelter."
"In that case, I have plenty of ways to handle them. This is my turf!"
Steven wasn't too worried.
Given how sturdy the shelter was, they'd need a lot of explosives to bring it down.
Plus, he could always retreat underground, leaving the two above-ground floors behind.
The three underground levels were even more solid than the above-ground structure.
Explosives? Forget it. Even missiles would have a hard time piercing its impenetrable armor.
After thinking it over, Steven made a decision.
He called all the women in the shelter and filled them in. "West Mountain Base is coming to attack us soon. For safety, we're gonna temporarily abandon the two above-ground floors and move everyone underground!"
The women looked a bit nervous hearing this.
"But don't worry, I've got everything under control!" Steven reassured them with a smile.
"Trust me, I have faith in our strength against West Mountain Base. They can't touch us!" he added.
With all the info he had, Steven had a pretty good idea of West Mountain Base's capabilities.
Starlight City didn't have a big military presence, and the number of soldiers was limited, so West Mountain Base's armed forces wouldn't be too strong.
This was clear from the strength of yesterday's rescue team.
Plus, the harsh cold and blizzards had taken out their heavy firepower, their main advantage, weakening their fighting capacity.
Now, their only edge was their numbers and a lot of weapons.
But Steven had already thought of ways to deal with that.
