Chapter 42 Emergency Food Supply

Annie's speech was immediately met with ridicule from a group of male homeowners.

"Damn, it's like doomsday already. No one's pampering you little girls now."

"Do you really think you're tough?"

"We risk our lives to protect you, and you think you deserve it?"

Henry, being scolded, felt helpless.

He couldn't understand why everyone had such an attitude when he had good intentions for everyone.

Being a man of few words and unable to argue back, he decided to stay silent.

Steven found the chat among the group quite lively, finding it amusing as a joke.

After all, entertainment options were limited now!

In conclusion, he had one main thought.

Most of the people in this homeowners group were beyond redemption.

The arguments in the chat group became more and more intense.

Perhaps due to pent-up frustration, everyone finally found a way to vent, letting it all out.

The chat group was filled  with vicious and dirty words that were unbearable, to the point where they all forgot the initial purpose of creating the group.

Steven set his phone aside and went to the kitchen.

Although there were plenty of ready-made meals in the extradimensional space, occasionally he liked to cook and enjoy life.

He took out fresh ingredients from the extradimensional space.

Potatoes, carrots, and onions were all fresh as if just dug out of the soil.

The beef was also very tender, with a fresh red meat texture that was appetizing.

Walmart truly lived up to being the world's number one supermarket brand, with impeccable product quality.

Steven cooked a pot of Beef and Potato Stew and fried some potato slices following a hamburger recipe.

After stewing and frying, the potato slices turned out particularly delicious.

Picking up his phone, he noticed messages from Alice and Ivy.

This time, they were pleading desperately.

Alice and Ivy were crying intensely, clearly frightened by Andrew's murderous acts.

Both Ivy and Alice didn't have the ability to resist villains.

So, they were likely to be Andrew's next targets.

Especially after seeing Steven's sturdy security door, they felt that Steven's home was a safe haven and wanted to move in.

"Steven, no matter how much conflict we had in the past, at least you once loved me, right?"

"You can't just watch me die, can you?"

"I know you seem cold on the surface, but your heart is soft. Please, save me!"

Ivy was even more shameless than Alice.

"Steven, I don't want to die. I'll do anything if you let me stay in your house! Just don't let me die at their hands."

Steven could feel their inner fear.

To be honest, if Steven's house wasn't reinforced at this moment, living in this cold and foodless home, his despair wouldn't be any less than these two.

But would he pity these two women?

Ridiculous, of course not!

After all, this was the scene he most desired to see.

The more desperate they were, the more excited Steven became.

He didn't say a word but slowly recorded a video for them.

In the video, Steven was in front of a large pot of Beef and Potato Stew, with a roaring fireplace not far away.

The room exuded a warm and peaceful atmosphere, starkly contrasting the swirling snowstorm and howling north wind outside.

For these two women at this moment, it was undoubtedly a huge stimulus.

After a lot of begging in their messages, asking Steven to let them into the room to live together.

Steven chose to ignore them.

He neither agreed nor refused.

He wanted to leave them a glimmer of hope, making them know that hope was slim, but they still had to come begging to him.

He spent the day in this boring manner.

After Andrew and the others seized a certain amount of supplies, they wouldn't rush to continue their actions.

They understood that if they went too far, all the homeowners would unite against them.

So, they rally a group of people, appease another, and then eliminate a third. This is the most rational strategy.

However, that night, through surveillance, Steven noticed some unusual movements from Andrew and his group.

The entire Starlight City was without power at night, with only Steven's house lit up, unnoticed by the residents in the same building.

Steven saw Andrew's men carrying two bodies out of the door.

Upon closer inspection, Steven felt that the two men looked familiar.

He remembered them clearly because he knew almost all the homeowners in the building.

But these two didn't belong to their unit.

Therefore, they must have been the men Andrew called over when it snowed.

After a brief thought, Steven figured out what had happened.

When Andrew and his men attacked Steven's house that day, Steven had blasted them with a large water pipe.

In this freezing weather of minus 160 degrees Fahrenheit, it was incredibly deadly.

So, these two men must have frozen to death.

Under low temperatures causing colds and fevers, without a comfortable environment and medication like ibuprofen, their deaths weren't surprising.

Otherwise, why was the average lifespan so short in ancient times?

The two bodies were stripped of all clothing and dumped at the staircase.

Steven frowned, initially puzzled about their purpose in doing so.

If they just wanted to dispose of the bodies, they could have thrown them out the window, as the heavy snow would cover everything.

Why leave them at the doorstep?

But as his thoughts shifted, Steven suddenly had a terrifying thought that made his pupils slightly contract!

Did Andrew leave their bodies behind as... reserve food?

This thought made Steven's body hairs stand on end, sending shivers down his spine.

But this explanation was indeed the most reasonable.

In freezing weather, the world was a giant refrigerator with no need to worry about food spoilage.

Many modern understandings of the apocalypse came from post-apocalyptic movies.

And cannibalism was not uncommon in those scenarios.

In recorded human history, during times of great calamity, there were terrifying accounts of murder and cannibalism.

Perhaps the peaceful years had made some people forget the documented history until the arrival of doomsday.

Steven took a deep breath, his rapidly beating heart quickly calming down.

Compared to the average person, he accepted this reality faster.

After all, he had experienced an apocalypse once before, being eaten by others.

He knew that when push came to shove, due to hunger, humans could resort to any cruel behavior, consuming anything edible.

"Andrew is truly a ruthless person!"

Although Steven didn't like Andrew, he couldn't help but marvel.

Many people understood the reasoning.

But to leave his men's body as a reserve food before the food ran out, he was almost as ruthless as losing his humanity.
