Chapter 447 Shocking the South

Outside the subway line, seven or eight massive Bronze Elite Zombies crawled out, surrounding a short, white-haired humanoid creature.

No one would guess that this unassuming creature was actually the Zombie King, the one commanding the entire subway horde!

The white Zombie King stared at the subway tunnel, now completely flooded with icy water. Confusion flickered in its eyes. It had been ordered to cultivate the zombie horde here, expand it, and eventually wipe out the humans in the southwest shelter.

But now, the tunnel was destroyed, and its painstakingly built army was almost entirely wiped out. The few remaining zombies couldn't form a horde, let alone attack the human shelter.

The Zombie King was at a loss. The eight massive Bronze Elite Zombies stood around it, heads lowered, waiting for orders. Without the Zombie King's command, they wouldn't act unless they encountered a living person.

After what felt like forever, the Zombie King seemed to reboot. It decided to turn around and head north, step by step. The eight Bronze Elite Zombies followed closely, trudging through the ice and snow.

Steven had used flooding to finally clear out all the zombies in the Floral Springs Line. From then on, no zombies appeared around the shelter, proving Steven's method was a huge success.

Without the subway tunnels, the zombies had no place to thrive. The cold surface environment couldn't sustain the mutant virus in the zombies, just like humans can't survive indefinitely in extreme temperatures.

Now, Steven had two things to focus on: enjoying his peaceful life and keeping an eye on other forces being attacked by zombies to stay vigilant.

Cindy monitored networks in real-time, keeping tabs on the battles with the zombie horde.

Among the major forces, the Snowfall Cult suffered the most, losing over 3,000 people to zombie bites. Those bitten showed signs of mutation but were killed by the Snowfall Cult before turning into zombies, calling it "returning to the Snow God's divine kingdom."

Emberwick Base and Silverlake Base also faced significant losses, with 500-600 soldiers killed. Silverlake Base even abandoned the harbor and fled to the sea to escape the zombies.

Leonard, though heartbroken, had a plan. He hoped the zombie horde would wipe out everyone in Starlight City, so they could return and become the largest force there.

After all, zombies couldn't survive forever. Once all the living people in Starlight City were gone, the zombies would disappear too.

Over at Emberwick Base, Megan had folks dig deep trenches around the base and fill them with crude oil. Whenever a zombie or rat horde attacked, they'd light up the oil, creating a fiery barrier around the refinery.

The flames took out a lot of zombies and rats, as fire was super effective against them. But fuel was scarce these days, so Megan's method was pretty extravagant. Luckily, she controlled a lot of oil resources, so they could afford it.

Meanwhile, Steven's old buddy Sebastian was in a tough spot. The lumberjacks at the steel mill, boosted by Sebastian's abilities, had turned into warriors who could take on ten enemies at once.

Armed with axes, sledgehammers, iron rods, and other heavy weapons, they fought the zombies in groups. But the numbers were against them. After a couple of battles, they were exhausted from fighting endless waves of zombies.

Eventually, Sebastian had to lead his remaining men to hide deep in the shelter.

Leaving the steel mill equipment to the zombies for now wasn't a big deal. Zombies wouldn't use or destroy the equipment; they were only after human flesh.

Sebastian's plan was to hide out and come back once the zombies were gone. The underground shelter was super safe. Steven had tested it before; unless someone used high-yield bunker-busting missiles, it was pretty much impenetrable.

Even if the zombie horde reached tens of thousands, it would take forever to dig open the shelter.

In the short term, Frostwood Base, the first to admit defeat, shouldn't face too many problems. But who knew what the long-term outcome of this zombie crisis would be? Steven agreed with Sebastian's approach.

Sebastian might not be the smartest, but he knew his limits. His decision to avoid a fight to the death with the zombies was timely and preserved Frostwood Base's forces.

Seven days flew by. On Steven's side, everyone was chilling, drinking coffee, and reading books at home.

It was like the zombie and rat hordes had never happened. But other forces were struggling, almost collapsing under the zombie and rat attacks.

The Zombie King, driven away by Steven, led eight Bronze Elite Zombies north to build a new nest.

In Starlight City, finding a warm and comfy underground nest wasn't hard. The subway lines were perfect for them. But they still needed food, and the remaining population of less than a million in Starlight City was their target. They could smell living people from far away and slowly moved in that direction.

The number of zombies in Starlight City was growing, but their food supply was limited.

Besides the five major forces, smaller groups were almost entirely devoured by the zombies. Driven by their instinct to find food, some zombies on the outskirts of Starlight City started spreading to nearby cities.

The apocalyptic zombie horde was evolving from Starlight City to a larger scale, finally alerting the surrounding cities and even the largest force in the entire South region, Silvercrest District!
