Chapter 245 Devour
After the gunshot, Zane didn't die.
He was always on edge, watching out for the hidden sniper.
That ghostly figure barely dodged Steven's bullet!
'Does he have some kind of supernatural speed and agility?' Steven thought, sizing up Zane's abilities.
But he wasn't in a rush. He quietly reloaded his gun, thinking, 'Let's see how long you can keep this up!'
Zane had to deal with both Steven and Fluffy, dodging hidden bullets and avoiding the giant monster in front of him.
Pretty soon, Zane started to feel the pressure.
Steven fired another shot, and this one was supercharged with supernatural power, making it deadly enough to pierce a bulletproof vest.
Blood trickled from the corner of Zane's mouth as he forced his supernatural ability into action again.
He left an afterimage in the air, dodging the bullet.
But just as he felt a bit of relief, a huge black shadow lunged at him from the side.
Fluffy opened its massive jaws and clamped down on half of his body.
There was a cracking sound; it was hard to tell if it was Zane's bulletproof vest or his bones breaking.
Zane's scream echoed across the field.
Before he died, he aimed his gun at Fluffy's eyes, still trying to take it down with him.
But Steven quickly shot him in the head.
And just like that, the two psychics who had invaded Steven's shelter were dead.
Steven felt a bit of relief as he drove his snowmobile over.
When he got there, Fluffy had already shrunk back to its normal size, sitting on Brittany's body, looking at Steven expectantly.
Fluffy let out a loud cry. Transforming had drained a lot of its energy.
Steven smiled and pulled out a few cans of tuna from his extradimensional space, placing them next to Fluffy.
Fluffy skillfully used its sharp claws to open the cans and started eating.
Meanwhile, Steven checked the bodies of the two intruders.
One was a tall guy, fully armed, wrapped in thick white armor.
But now, his body had a crescent-shaped wound from Fluffy's bite.
The armor wasn't completely shattered; the material seemed special, probably military-grade.
Too bad it was broken. Steven planned to take it back for further study.
Just then, Fluffy meowed twice at Steven.
Steven turned to look, and Fluffy, almost like a human, nodded towards Brittany.
"What's up?" he asked.
Steven recognized Brittany; she was the one who had phased through walls into his shelter.
If it weren't for her weird ability, Steven wouldn't have felt such a strong urge to kill.
After all, his shelter was his biggest source of security right now. He couldn't let anyone mess with it!
At this point, Brittany was already frozen stiff. The thin white bodysuit she wore was clearly special and probably had strong defensive capabilities.
And the fact that she could wear such thin clothing in this weather must have something to do with her ability.
Steven walked over, planning to search Brittany's body.
As soon as his right hand touched her, he suddenly felt like he'd been electrocuted, a strange sensation rushing to his brain!
It felt like some primal instinct had kicked in.
Fluffy squinted and kept meowing.
Steven swallowed hard, realizing why Fluffy wanted him to check on this woman.
A voice in his head was telling him he could steal her power!
Steven placed his right hand on Brittany's forehead, and a powerful supernatural force surged down his arm and into his body.
The rush was so intense, Steven almost wanted to shout out!
It was his first time absorbing another Psychic's power!
After taking Brittany's power, Steven felt a noticeable boost in his own abilities.
It was like a starving person finally getting a feast, feeling energized all over.
"So, Psychic powers can be absorbed from each other?" Steven looked at his palm in disbelief.
At this point, Brittany's body no longer gave off that electric shock feeling, like it was just an empty shell.
Animals' instincts are always sharper than humans'.
Steven realized that Fluffy had sensed Brittany's power could be absorbed and had left it for him.
Steven was deeply moved and couldn't help but hug Fluffy and kiss it. "Fluffy, thank you! Good girl!"
Fluffy nudged its head against Steven, then impatiently jumped down and continued eating the tuna.
Steven looked puzzled at Zane's body. "Wasn't he also a Psychic? Why didn't I feel that way when I touched him?"
He continued murmuring, "Weird, this world and its mutated creatures are full of mysteries."
Steven put the two bodies into his extradimensional space and cleaned up the bloodstains at the scene.
But the footprints they left on the way here couldn't be cleaned up; they stretched for almost 3 miles.
He said to himself, "Screw it! They've already found my location. If they want to fight, bring it on. I'd like to see who can invade my shelter now that the woman who can phase through walls is dead!"
Steven tried to pump himself up, but he knew he had to stay cautious.
These two weren't lone wolves; they came from a powerful organization. Their uniforms made that clear.
And that organization definitely had more than just these two Psychics.
They might have more powerful warriors, even entire units!
"Once I get back, I'll have to think about how to prepare for this!" Steven rubbed his temples, feeling a bit frustrated.
'Why do people always mess with my peaceful life?' he thought.
But he wasn't afraid.
With the city snowed in, any attack would only involve Psychics and infantry.
Modern heavy weapons were unlikely to show up.
And more extreme strategic weapons wouldn't be controlled by a city like Starlight City, which wasn't a major military hub.
So, even if an organization attacked, they could at most use some portable heavy weapons.
How could those things breach his shelter?
"I'd better head back first. I need to make sure I'm prepared for whatever comes next," Steven said, his jaw set.
No matter who came or how strong they were, Steven would be ready.
After all, you only live once.
