Chapter 312 Stance
Molly and Sophia were super pumped because they had a hunch they'd stumbled onto some major intel.
If Lily was really planning to ditch the organization, they could use that to get on Peter's good side.
Ever since Peter had hooked up with them last time, he hadn't given them the time of day for like, two weeks.
There were plenty of pretty girls at the West Mountain Base.
Most folks here were either loaded or had some fancy title, and the girls were all rich, spoiled, and good-looking.
Molly and Sophia were cute, but they didn't exactly stand out in a crowd.
Plus, Peter was getting up there in age, and his libido wasn't what it used to be. Especially after that spat with Steven, Peter's interest had really tanked.
This had Molly and Sophia on edge, worried he might ship them back to The Fourth Life Warehouse.
After living it up in The Second Life Warehouse, that was the last thing they wanted.
So, as soon as Lily left the room, they bolted out, ready to tattle.
But when they opened the door, there was Lily, staring at them with disappointment.
"I'm so disappointed in you," Lily said, and before they could react, she knocked them out cold with a couple of swift chops to the neck.
Lily had had enough of them. To keep the other students safe, she tied the two girls up tight and stuffed them in the closet.
As she was about to leave, she spotted a bottle of sleeping pills on the table and gave them each a couple.
Since they all lived in The Second Life Warehouse, Lily knew Sophia and Molly didn't really mix with the others.
The other residents were all top-tier talents and didn't bother with two mistresses.
So, no one would come looking for them.
As long as they stayed out cold until tomorrow night, she and the other students would be in the clear.
Lily made sure the closet had enough air, took their keys, locked the door from the outside, and left.
Just as she was about to relax and head back to rest, a familiar voice stopped her in her tracks.
"Ms. Evans, what are you doing here so late?"
Lily's body tensed up. It was Peter's personal secretary, Lisa.
Lily forced herself to stay calm and turned to Lisa with a smile.
Lisa was in her usual black suit, burgundy glasses, and had that professional smile plastered on her face.
"I was just heading back, Ms. Grant. What about you?"
Lisa's smile grew. She walked up to Lily in her high heels, squinting slightly. This gave Lily a bad feeling.
"Ms. Evans, you've been visiting The Fourth Life Warehouse a lot these past few days, haven't you?"
Lisa's words made Lily's nerves spike.
'Is my plan toast? Or did one of my students rat me out?'
Lily's mind raced, but she kept her cool on the outside.
"I was just checking on my students." Lily thought back to her plan and couldn't find any holes.
She had told her students to meet at midnight tomorrow, but hadn't said why.
So even if someone spilled the beans, she could come up with a cover story.
Lily put on the most reasonable act she could.
She suddenly frowned and coldly asked Lisa, "Ms. Grant, I've got a question for you! Why have so many of my students gone missing since we got here over a month ago?"
Lisa didn't expect Lily to turn the tables on her.
Lisa frowned a bit and said, "I should've mentioned, the West Mountain Base has a bunch of different divisions. Everything runs on orders and commands. It's not just the power generation department. They got reassigned based on what the organization needed."
Hearing Lisa's explanation, Lily felt a wave of relief. Looked like Lisa only knew about her trips to The Fourth Life Warehouse, and her plan was still under wraps.
Lily immediately shot back, "Is that really the case? Even if they got reassigned, it shouldn't have made half of my students vanish!"
Lily locked eyes with Lisa and asked boldly, "Ms. Grant, are you using my students for human experiments?"
Lisa's eyes flickered with surprise, but she quickly shrugged it off with a smile.
"So, you figured it out. Well, since you're here and you're the special forces captain, you'd find out sooner or later. Saves me the trouble of explaining."
Lisa admitted openly. "Yep, some of your students were sent for human experiments. The goal is to help them unlock their potential and become Psychics."
Lisa shrugged again and added, "But you know, Psychics are super rare, so the success rate of these experiments isn't great."
In reality, the success rate of human experiments at the West Mountain Base was ridiculously low, with hardly any successes so far.
Even the current Psychic captains had used other special methods.
Lisa was upfront about the experiments because, as a highly valued psychic at the West Mountain Base, Lily would find out eventually due to her status and position.
In fact, from the first to third Life Warehouses, human experiments weren't a secret.
These experiments needed a lot of test subjects, and in a limited space, it was hard to keep them completely under wraps.
Lily showed the right amount of anger. "You used my students for experiments!" she shouted.
Lisa just smiled and patted Lily's shoulder. "Ms. Evans, calm down. You're not a kid anymore, right? You can't be naive enough to think the base would support so many people for nothing. Every gift from fate comes with a price. If the base hadn't taken you in, you and your students would've been dead long ago. So, sacrificing for the base is your duty."
Lily was momentarily at a loss for words.
True, if they hadn't come to the West Mountain Base, they might've been dead by now.
Even if they had stayed hidden in the Innovation Academy, they would've eventually run out of supplies.
But that didn't mean Lily could just accept Lisa's words.
"They can find other ways to survive, not by sacrificing their lives!" Lily said coldly.
Lisa shook her head with a smile, looking at Lily like she was a naive child. "You're still too idealistic. Ms. Evans, you need to understand that you're now a high-ranking member of the West Mountain Base. The reason you can enjoy such good living conditions is because of the sacrifices of those below."
"You're benefiting from your students' sacrifices, so spare me the self-righteous talk. Sometimes, people need to live a bit more selfishly. Do you really think your current life isn't good?" Lisa smiled, staring into Lily's eyes, trying to get her to accept the survival rules of the West Mountain Base.
Lily was silent for a moment, then sighed, looking down. "I understand."
Lisa's smile widened. "That's more like it! You would've realized this sooner or later in the apocalypse. Well then, good night!"
With that, Lisa turned on her heel and walked away.
