Chapter 470 The Puzzle Deepens

Eris's words caught everyone off guard.

It was a shock, but it made sense.

Mutated creatures, humans, and corpses were pretty much the norm these days.

Eris went on, "This thing's body is loaded with the zombie virus, which spreads in a unique way."

"It can infect other corpses, turning them into zombies."

"Then, the mother body and the regular zombies are somehow linked, letting it control the whole horde!"

"It's a simple method, and the info it can send is limited. That's why the zombie horde's initial attacks are pretty basic."

"But the Zombie King itself is smart, and its brain is still intact. So, it's not as tough to kill as regular zombies. Just like a normal person, if you take out its brain, it's done for."

Theron, lounging in his chair, couldn't help but say, "Doesn't sound much different from humans!"

Leandro, with a serious tone, said, "So, if we take out all the Zombie Kings in Starlight City, we can end this zombie mess, right?"

Eris nodded in agreement. "In theory, yeah. A zombie horde without a Zombie King leading it, no matter how big, isn't much of a threat."

In this world loaded with Psychics, if these zombies weren't led by a Zombie King, any human force could wipe them out with enough time and resources.

Otha adjusted his sunglasses and mulled Eris's words for a while. "But there's still one thing we haven't figured out."

"If there's more than one Zombie King in Starlight City, where did the first one come from? How did the it get infected with the zombie virus?"

Everyone turned to the virus expert, Eris.

Eris shook his head. "Tracing it back is tough, given the massive scale of the zombie horde and the conditions we're working with. It's nearly impossible to find the source."

"It's possible the Zombie King is just one type of the zombie horde. Like regular zombies and Bronze Elite Zombies, they were all created by the first Zombie King."

"And its goal is simply to command other zombie hordes."

Otha still looked worried.

Theron chuckled beside him and said, "We're gonna be busy! But at least we know one good thing: after we take out the Zombie King, the zombie horde will be easier to handle, right?"

"This mission doesn't seem as bad as we thought. It's just that there are a lot of them!"

Lanny rubbed his forehead. "So many zombies, how long will it take to kill them all? If only we could gather them together and use my Levitating Energy Cannon to wipe them out!"

Everyone laughed.

"It's not that simple! Otherwise, headquarters wouldn't have sent us here."

At that moment, Otha, who had been deep in thought, suddenly spoke up, "Gathering them together and wiping them out in one go is actually a good idea."

Everyone was stunned by his words.

Lanny blinked and grinned, "Captain, you really get me! This idea is awesome, right?"

Theron frowned a bit. "But how do we do that? The zombie horde is scattered all over Starlight City."

Daron chimed in, "And if we really gather them all together, the sheer number would be insane to handle!"

Otha crossed his arms, looking serious.

He said calmly, "The zombie horde's actions have a purpose—they're targeting the five major forces in Starlight City. Whether it's intentional or not, zombies will always follow human movements."

"So, why don't we gather all the humans in Starlight City to draw all the zombie hordes in? Then, we can take out all the Zombie Kings at once!"

He paused and added, "Besides, I need to test a theory."

Everyone was intrigued.

"Captain, what's on your mind?"

Otha's lips curled into a faint smile.

"So far, the zombie horde in Starlight City has only shown a slight tendency to spread to nearby cities. Most of the zombies are still concentrated in the Starlight City area."

"This is really odd. If the zombies are driven by the virus inside them, they'd naturally spread out to other areas."

"After all, Starlight City alone doesn't have enough living beings for them to feed on."

"So, why do they stay in Starlight City and keep attacking the major forces? Even Steven's shelter, which has only a few people, has been under attack by a large zombie army for a long time."

A playful expression appeared on Otha's face.

"I want to see if there's a human factor behind this. Maybe the Zombie King was created by someone working in the shadows."

"If that's the case, we need to take out this underground force too!"

Another night passed.

The investigation team scored a big win on the outskirts of Emberwick Base.

This was the first time humans had killed a Zombie King, causing the zombie horde around Emberwick Base to lose its command and act on instinct like wild animals.

Some zombies even wandered to the outskirts of Emberwick Base in broad daylight.

At first, this freaked out the people at Emberwick Base who were planning to rest.

But after a battle, they were thrilled to find that the zombies' combat power had dropped significantly!

They no longer avoided traps and barbed wire; as long as they saw humans, they'd charge forward mindlessly.

Even when soldiers used flamethrowers, the zombies didn't dodge and got burned to death in large numbers.

This made the human forces cheer with joy.

Byron excitedly reported the news to Megan.

Megan's furrowed brows relaxed. "Really?"

She came to the front line and saw that although the number of zombies was still large, they no longer had the previous order, and she couldn't help but breathe a long sigh of relief.

"Although we don't know what happened, this is good news." She finally smiled.

Byron said, "Could this be related to the investigation team from Silvercrest District?"

Megan thought of the powerful members of the investigation team, her expression becoming slightly serious. "It's possible."

Megan and Byron's eyes showed undisguised shock.

A team of just seven people managed to solve a major problem in one area on their first day in Starlight City? That was incredible!

Their respect for Silvercrest District grew even deeper.
